Citizen Rail features regional American classics and contemporary riffs. The concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture, and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

Great Food. A little pricey but quality was there.
Great! As always
Awesome place to meet up with friends. Great food and great atmosphere!
Great service, high quality presentation and flavor
We had a great time and yummy food!
Came for an anniversary dinner, wasn’t what I quite expected the restaurant to be. Not sure if it was because of a large dinner party that was also there, but it wasn’t as much of a semi intimate setting as I imagined. We ordered the tomahawk. It was a nice experience to say “I’ve had a tomahawk” but we weren’t too impressed with the flavor and probably wouldn’t order it again. Nice restaurant with the perfect atmosphere for dinner parties. Also, out of the 4 other restaurants we’ve booked through OpenTable, this is the only one that didn’t acknowledge our anniversary 🥺
Everything was delicious…the snack board, steak and eggs, and avocado toast. Their coffee is also great!
Caught brunch here on July 4 and then ordered in room breakfast on the 5th while staying in the Born. Phenomenal breakfast. You won’t do better, I assure you.
My “must go to” restaurant in LoDo Denver! Love the vibe, interiors, cocktails and the food is outstanding! Highly recommend this spot!
Absolutely best birthday ever!
If you come right at HH the noise is a bit higher but nothing too crazy. Staff is great and they work together to make sure everyone has the best experience.
Become a real steakhouse! Filets, porterhouses, etc.. not just the tomahawk
Egg white omelet nicely filled with oily spinach, avo and mushrooms but under seasoned. Waited for a while to flag someone for salt and pepper… friend’s burger was ordered medium but was not pink but well cooked. Took awhile for our meal to arrive. I liked my meal but it was underwhelming. The MEAT is pretty good…
Service was outstanding and the food was delicious.
Elegant and delicious but unfussy dishes and drinks! Citizen Rail does a great job of being excellent without being fancy. I look forward to taking family, friends, and business partners here soon!
I’m so disappointed in my last dining experience at Citizen Rail. As someone who supported Citizen Rail pre, during and post the pandemic. The service and honestly most of the food was so far below what I have come to expect. Started with a wobbly table when we asked to switch tables we came to find that the other tables were just as or more wobbly. When I asked our server to help wipe up the table since 3 of the 4 water glasses had spilled water during the wobbly table episode. She brought a dish towel out and just handed it over to me (not what I expected at a restaurant of this caliber). In general, our server was not very attentive and it would take several minutes to get her attention for lemons or to places additional orders.
To the food: please bring back the charcuterie board, the snack board felt anemic of meats (the highlight of the snack board was the pickled celery). The sauces on the grilled artichoke were heavy and didn’t work together especially the egg yolk one. The brown butter clam chowder (which was excellent on previous visits including 2 months ago) had too much bacon that overpowered everything else. The mussels were probably the best item we ordered. The tomahawk was over cooked (requested medium rare, ended up being more like a medium to medium well). The pork chop was good if you got the right bite, unfortunately it was unevenly cooked. The broccoli was over charred, the risotto was fine and the potatoes were uneventful. Overall, I think the grill must have been having some issues as we all left with a charred taste in our mouth that almost bordered on gasoline-y.
Found it odd that knowing we had issues with the wobbly table the manager failed to come and check on us. Additionally, we were never asked about the food to provide feedback while we were there. Unfortunate that this happened on Father’s Day as I was excited to introduce my dad to my favorite Denver steak spot.
Great food and good service. The outside patio was relaxing and quiet.
Best burger (CR 50/50) I've ever had, no BS! Definitely, a must-try.
Great service and lovely food and drinks. They were able to modify the burger to accomodate our gluten allergies.
The food and service were fantastic. The beet salad was one of the best salads I've ever had.
Will definitely be back.
We chose to sit outside, so there was a small amount of noise from people walking by, which is expected. We got the mussels and the pork chop and both were great!
Service was ok, food was fair at best for price point
Nice brunch. American breakfast and poached eggs with avocado toast were our entrees. Food was really good but the service was a little spotty, especially after our food arrived.
Everything was delicious! Would have loved to see better dessert selection but everything we ate was outstanding!~
Service was great! From Hostess to our server to management, everyone was outstanding. Good food. Enjoyed apps and dinner. Good place!
They make one believe that they are a true steakhouse. But they are anything but. Stay away from their premium cut steaks as they overcook them and they do not come to the table hot. Wine selection is mediocre. Stick to the beer and burgers. Overpriced.
The food was great and the service was top notch. We had cocktails, appetizers, steak, and tuna. Very pleased with everything.
Delicious! The food was great and clearly a lot of thought was put into each dish, from how it looked aesthetically to how it tasted. I'll definitely be back!
Not a large menu but everything the 8 of us ate was very good. We had the 50/50 burger, the pork chop, the mussels and the rib eye (which was a little pricey so that wouldn't be my first choice the next time).
Limited expensive menu. Had a decent meal but wouldn’t go back.
Very nice Restaurant
I had the quinoa-oatmeal and my husband had the Dutch pancake. Both dishes were delicious! The side of apple wood smoked bacon was cooked just right, but I had to sop the grease off.
Went for a business dinner, atmosphere was professional yet relaxing. Service was outstanding and our waitress never let our glasses empty and cleared every plate as was needed. Very friendly and provided wonderful service.
I think Citizen Rail is under new management! Our experience was not what it used to be. Very disappointed. Went there for breakfast and the service awful and the food was mediocre. Not sure what happened or if this was a result of staffing and COVID, but we won’t be going back. This used to be a neighborhood favorite… we live two blocks away.
The waitress forgot everything I asked for because she forgot to bring it in the first place… a spoon for my coffee and grapefruit juice that I ordered - which I took to go. The food was sad… my favorite eggs and greens was a disaster. The salad was SOOO overdressed, it was soggy and tasted only of vinegar. The avocado toast was missing the seasoning on top and the poached eggs were rubbery.
I would have sent my food back but the waitress couldn’t be found and by the time she came by, I was half way through and just said it was fine.
In town for a visit with family we decided to give the restaurant in our hotel a try. A little more expensive than our usual venues but it was definitely worth it. I had the pork chop and DW had the tuna and clams. Both were absolutely mouth-watering. The oyster chowder appetizer was excellent as well. Our server was great. We'll be back.
I'm guessing they were short staffed in the kitchen and front of the house. We had a 35 minutes wait for cocktails at brunch. No water was brought out. The server checked after we finished which took an extremely long time due to the backup. Not great at all, huge disappointment. Provided a picture as an example, $22 for a snack board that was literally thrown on a plate.
Great anniversary dinner in downtown Denver in May
Had a great time and amazing food and drinks. Service was 10/10
Citizen Rail was less spectacular than anticipated. We were looking forward to dining there. The food was good but the service personnel was distracted. A little more attention to detail to food, wine and service would elevate the experience.
