Citizen Rail features regional American classics and contemporary riffs. The concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture, and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.
This was one of the best dining experiences of my life, and I assure you, I am a connoisseur of fine dining. The staff was attentive, communicative and professional. The food was phenomenal. The cocktails were on the money. My steak was cooked and cut to perfection (i had the filet), the monk fish was tender and flavorful. I was extremely impressed with how well we were treated, how meticulous the plating and presentation of our meals were, the overall ambiance was impeccable.
The menu is creative and the service outstanding, and this was with a party of 9. My favorite spot in Denver.
Wonderful and unique menu, very comfortable seating, staff was outstanding!
Great service and the steak and eggs are delicious! Ordered a special starter and donuts that were very dry & inedible. The server took the feedback and didn’t charge us for the donuts. I have been here about three times and though the cocktails at dinner are fantastic I enjoy their breakfast much more so hit this place up for breakfast or a happy hour with friends
We ordered the tomahawk steak. It was good, but I regret spending $129 on it. I’ve had better steaks at chain restaurants honestly. The duck fat potatoes were the saving grace. They were delicious. We also tried the plunder road drink. Not totally sure what we expected, but it tasted like spoiled milk.
Hi Madelyn, I am sorry you were disappointed in the Tomahawk, please reach out to me at your earliest convenience so we can rectify the situation. Jason Gordon, General Manager email@example.com
Food was ok, atmosphere was a bit lacking. Nothing to write home about.
Nick our server was very knowledgeable and accurate in his descriptions. The food was very good from the octopus app to the scallops, steak and pork chop. I was fairly full and still always like the pastry chef to have their turn. The desserts were possibly the best part and everything was great. I would definitely recommend citizen rail to anyone. Cheers!
Steak was awful. Could not eat it. Place was empty & they tried to make us sit on one of those horrible benches where the next table is 6 inches away. I had three lousy oysters, small & uneventful. Never going back.
Hi JulieL I am sorry about the seating, I would like to apologize in person. Please reach out to me directly, Jason.firstname.lastname@example.org
Kinda felt like a school cafeteria. Wasn’t impressed with the look. The food was good. Server could have checked in more often.
Definitely for meat lovers. Great cocktail selection.
The best meal I’ve had in awhile! great for a date night!
I have been here 3 times since 2019. The quality has remained in both food and service. I would consider myself a die-hard returning customer at this point.
Really enjoyed breakfast here. Delicious food. Reasonable portions, welcoming atmosphere, pricing appropriate for the neighborhood. Bethany and Alyssa took good care of me. I def recommend Citizen Rail.
Overpriced- $6 for a small cappuccino, really? Service was slow, but the food was tasty. Bottom line: it was fine, but there are so many better places to try in Denver.
Our group of 5 had a great outing. We were surprised to only see the restaurant week menu available (we were in from out of town), but my steak was cooked perfectly. Good experience.
The salads and main course were delicious. I had the aged NY strip. My appetizer was octopus and that was overcooked. My husband enjoyed the foccacia bread. The service was good for how busy it was for restaurant week. It was loud but as expected as it was very busy. Our drinks were incredible and bartenders were very professional. Overall, I give it a 4.
We had a very nice evening. Service was very good food was tasty.
We enjoyed sitting at the counter watching and talking with the chefs. The food and service were great! We will be going back!
One of the best meals I've ever had. Such a great time!! I am beyond impressed with the restaurant week menu and the cocktails! Excellent all around.
Everything was subpar
Billy was the best! The food was wonderful, great cocktails, and the atmosphere was just right!
I would recommend to a friend and, indeed, I have. Excellent preparation and presentation of food. It was a cold night and the restaurant was very cold which took away from the evening.
Excellent service. Amazing food. Great cocktails. Reasonably priced. In the heart of downtown, near Union Station. Honestly cannot say enough great things about this place.
Came here for a Sunday brunch. Meals were wonderful. Sit at the counter if you can to watch the kitchen work their magic. The chefs got to working on our food as soon as we made our choice, after we told our server we needed a few more minutes to decide. The General Manager is involved in a positive way and it shows. He's serving alongside the rest of the team. When we left our to-go box at the restaurant, he jogged half a block to us to ensure we got our food we had left behind. Will definitely be coming back, and would recommend this place to others.
Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the food. The service was FANTASTIC and they tried to make it right but it wasn’t anything special. The octopus was so chewy we couldn’t even eat it (they did sub out for oysters at no charge but they were also meh). I had heard good things so was disappointed. Don’t know if we’ll go back as it’s quite expensive for subpar food.
Amazing food and great service. We went for a date night and we were at a table in between other tables extremely close to us (you can hear everyone’s conversations) and the restaurant was quite loud, but it was a fun and energetic atmosphere. Not necessarily romantic, but very fun. The food alone is definitely worth the trip.
When I made the reservation there was no where on the website that said it was going to be a limited menu due to restaurant week. Had we known this we would not have eaten here. The service was slow. We had to ask multiple times for drink refills. We were here for 3.5 hrs- and we ordered when we first got there.
The food was ok- but there were other things on the regular menu we were wanting to try.
We will not be repeat customers.
Citizens Rail did not disappoint! The beef tartare was outrageous with layers of flavors and homemade chips. The focaccia with burrata was creamy with a tomato salsa that complimented the plate. Steaks were prepared beautifully and the lemon chicken was moist and yummy. Will be back to this gem.
Tasty and cool!
Had a great time. Want to come for regular menu soon.
Service was great, but meal was sub-par for the price. I’d give it another shot though. Aged beef was good.
Tasty meats & bartenders are masters! Meats are aged in house. Steak competes w/ Elway’s any day of the week. Can’t wait go back.
Sat at 12:06, got food at 1:10. Greeted quickly but then sat for twenty minutes with nothing but coffee and OJ. We finally placed our food order after 12:30 to only wait for it for another 30+ minutes. 30+ for cold oatmeal and a steak that came out medium rare when ordered medium. No way we were complaining when it just took over 30 minutes to get our food wrong anyway. Manager was gracious enough to comp off the steak and eggs, but never came to the table to apologize when he was the one on expo that could have expedited our meal. Pretty bad experience overall.
It was truly enjoyable and the food was beyond amazing
Meat had a strong taste of gas, dry aged was not as tender as it is suppose to be....
Half portions.... I order the strip and I get half of one.... I left your restaurant hungry.
We came back after a so-so experience New Year’s Eve, encouraged in part by a gift certificate. The food was good, the service was great, the happy hour in the adjacent bar was hopping, helping to create a fun atmosphere. Definitely back on our go-to list.
Although the service was a little cold and inattentive the food was fantastic. We really enjoyed the mushroom consommé the roast chicken special and the steak tartare. We ordered all three salads for the table and loved those as well. We will be back.
Citizen Rail is a hidden gem in the Union Station neighborhood. Normally I am not a fan of a hotel restaurant, but CR is the exception. CR works for breakfast, lunch, happy hour or dinner. Fore breakfast its a nice menu and an environment where there is no wait and you can actually hear your colleague talk. For lunch, there is something for everyone without breaking the bank. Healthy salads to a mouth-watering juicy hamburger. Special hint - ask for the grilled sausages as an appetizer (its not on the menu but those in the know can request it). Happy hour is happening - the bar has a great vibe and the cocktail list is exceptional. Finally, CR presents a wonderful dinner experience both for date night or a family meal. The steaks are killer, but don't pass up the porkchop or sea specials. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Give CR a try - its a definite go to if you are in the Union Station area.
Blah. Very very blah. Skip it. And folks running it were blah as well. Needs more mgmt oversight.
We were excited because we had heard great things, and our service was excellent. However, my steak was quite gristly, and the broccoli rabe was very stringy and hard to chew. The only thing the four of us LOVED was the mussels appetizer. The dessert was fine, though nothing special. For the price, we were very disappointed.
