concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture,
and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired
grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the
restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that
connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are
genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

Tasty meats & bartenders are masters! Meats are aged in house. Steak competes w/ Elway’s any day of the week. Can’t wait go back.
It was truly enjoyable and the food was beyond amazing
Meat had a strong taste of gas, dry aged was not as tender as it is suppose to be....
Half portions.... I order the strip and I get half of one.... I left your restaurant hungry.
We came back after a so-so experience New Year’s Eve, encouraged in part by a gift certificate. The food was good, the service was great, the happy hour in the adjacent bar was hopping, helping to create a fun atmosphere. Definitely back on our go-to list.
Although the service was a little cold and inattentive the food was fantastic. We really enjoyed the mushroom consommé the roast chicken special and the steak tartare. We ordered all three salads for the table and loved those as well. We will be back.
Citizen Rail is a hidden gem in the Union Station neighborhood. Normally I am not a fan of a hotel restaurant, but CR is the exception. CR works for breakfast, lunch, happy hour or dinner. Fore breakfast its a nice menu and an environment where there is no wait and you can actually hear your colleague talk. For lunch, there is something for everyone without breaking the bank. Healthy salads to a mouth-watering juicy hamburger. Special hint - ask for the grilled sausages as an appetizer (its not on the menu but those in the know can request it). Happy hour is happening - the bar has a great vibe and the cocktail list is exceptional. Finally, CR presents a wonderful dinner experience both for date night or a family meal. The steaks are killer, but don't pass up the porkchop or sea specials. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Give CR a try - its a definite go to if you are in the Union Station area.
Blah. Very very blah. Skip it. And folks running it were blah as well. Needs more mgmt oversight.
We were excited because we had heard great things, and our service was excellent. However, my steak was quite gristly, and the broccoli rabe was very stringy and hard to chew. The only thing the four of us LOVED was the mussels appetizer. The dessert was fine, though nothing special. For the price, we were very disappointed.
We were in from out of town visiting our son. Had a reservation and in person the hostess showed Us the high top table we would have for our 5:30 reservation. We were happy that we would have a few happy hour items and drinks. When we arrived a different hostess told us that someone was sitting at our table and oh well, you can sit at this table. Which was the high top behind the hostess stand. We were the only ones there..felt like leppers. And no happy hour was offered. Just not what we expected. Our waiter was very good though.
Great food. Fast service too!
Food was good, not great. Expected more for a $20 burger. Not cooked medium rare, not much flavor. Great service, very attentive server (Lauren)
The service and food was excellent. The steaks were prepared well and the selection of sauces to accompany your steak were delicious. The only drawback was that it is noisy, but we overcame.
great food great service. It was a birthday dinner - they made it special. Best bottle of Gruner Veltliner I've ever had...
The food was fantastic. I am allergic to wheat and lactose intolerant and they were able to work around my restrictions. A plus.
The appetizers were expensive for the amount you get, but the food is really good!
Short ribs with horseradish potatoes to die for. Would go back.
Had a reservation for 6 people and the restaurant called to confirm. The waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and provided very good guidance on the wine selection. Food and ambience was great. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a business dinner.
My go to for this type of food. Service is second to none. Recommend highly
Our server was amazing! He recommended a sweet drink for me; which I could not get enough of and the lamb stew which was Devine. He basically recommended our whole meal starting from the charcuterie board all the way to the lebowski dessert. He was funny and super welcoming. The manager there was equally as awesome and came to check in on us.
I love everything about this restaurant! Beautiful upscale but not pretentious. Delicious food, innovative drink menu, and amazing service from every single employee.
We were recommended citizen rail by a friend while looking for date night places. The food here is amazinggggg. A little pricey but definitely worth it. The entire staff was very nice and welcoming. We are so happy we tried Citizen rail and we will definitely be back!!
We really enjoy this restaurant. The menu is not large, but it's better to have a smaller selection of great food compared to a large selection of okay-to-decent food. We reserved a 'hightop' for the first time and maybe it's just us, but we enjoyed sitting in the bar more than in the dining room.
Amazing experience sitting at the counter and interacting with the chef.
Server was very approachable and non intrusive for our lunch meeting. Food was great also.
We had brunch here, and ordered 3 entrees for two of us as we couldn’t narrow down our choices. We loved all three. When our waitress found out it was
Wonderful evening meal would highly recommend. Loved the burger and chicken dinners
A class act from stepping into the door Through an outstanding meal with impeccable service, unobtrusive yet amazing attention to detail. Excellent advice and knowledge of the menu, food was amazing – everyone’s dishes were designed to impress - our diverse group was immediately planning other events here.
I am a chef and particular and I really enjoyed every aspect of my experience.
Server and food was great. Noise level is SO LOUD
Great attitudes from ALL staff!
I was pretty underwhelmed. The burrata and focaccia appetizer and the broccoli rabe side were probably the most impressive but the mains disappointed. Both our main's were pretty bland / under-seasoned, the steak had a fair bit of gristle and the pork chop was unevenly cooked (read: raw) in some places. And the service was aloof at best. For the price point, I expected this to be more on par with an Oak in Boulder, but it really didn't compare. I will say that the cocktails were great. Cheers to the bartender for two very solid concoctions.
Steak was extremely tough. Very lightly kissed with smoke . Ordered the spicy carrot side which were not all carrots but parsnips and raw or very lightly cooked. Found a hair, a full one at that, in a blended and slightly creamy chimicurry sauce. I don't know how you get a full course hair in a blended sauce but it happened, and it was at the bottom of the cup at that. I would highly recommend not eating here for dinner. They only took off the 2 sides after taking the recommendation from the server on the sides size. I had to order a second side. The manager came out and offered new food but I don't see how you could fix the multitude of problems I had. They didn't even replace my chimichurri they brought me 2 different sauces. After leaving I was still hungry because I could not eat the tough steak which was new york strip and I can get a more tender piece at Texas Roadhouse, I went to Anthony's pizza across the street to get something to fill me up. I ate an entire medium pizza from them. I do not eat much in a day and usually if I have a meal for lunch I will just have soup or something very small for dinner. If I am expecting a decent dinner I won't eat lunch so I won't ruin my dinner. Well I was looking forward to dinner so I only had some fries for lunch from my wife's plate. Not worth the amount they charge at all. Highly disappointed and I can tell the reviews do not match what people actually think as the place was empty. I bet most reviews are fluff/false to keep this place open.
Second time there for brunch. The bus person seemed more attentive than our server. Requested the apple muffin to be served first but it was not. Requested hot sauce when order was placed and had to request twice after the food came. Biscuits and gravy w/ prosciutto weren't as good as the last time and plates not as hot so it was cold fast.
The setting is more outstanding than the execution of the menu, which sounded delicious when we booked, but ended up being a bit inconsistent. I still recommend Citizen Rail and will try it again. It's a good spot to meet friends for a drink and to people-watch.
Can’t give Zero Stars. 3 course was a joke. First review I’ve ever wrote.. Feels necessary. Saved the worst meal of the decade for last meal of the decade.

We had a perfect NYE dinner, enjoyed every moment. Then celebrated our engagement with a breakfast the next day and felt so special. Everyone went above and beyond and I give it 5 starts all around!! Thank you Citizen Rail!
Thank you Tev7, hurry back !
We have enjoyed brunch and happy hour here, so thought we would try their fixed price menu for NYE. there were four of us. Our server was very friendly, made recommendations that turned out well. We were there at 5:15 and the place was not very full. We told our server we were in no hurry. He later told us that he had told that to the kitchen. Nevertheless our first course was delivered almost as soon as our drinks. And my soup was cold. I reiterated to the server that this was not the pace we wanted. He assured us the kitchen had been informed. Almost immediately our main course arrived. I should know not to order steak when there is only one on the menu. It was average at best. My companions reported better results. After the main course we were visited by a manager who apologized and offered to hold desert for how ever long we wanted. At that point, what was the point? We shared the deserts which were quite good, and left. It was not the NYE experience we were anticipating.

First time dining at this restaurant on New Years Eve. The set menu was very good. I had the scallops and my husband the Osso buco, both meals were wonderful. The Desserts were excellent as well. Wines by the glass are over priced but this appears to be the norm these days, so no ordering of a second glass. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant and I was impressed that the chef came by our table to see if we were enjoying our meal. Nice place.
