   Great ambiance. Food was cooked very well, but lacked seasoning. When we asked for salt, it’s the kind of place that looks offended you asked. Verbatim response was, “oh, hmmm, let me see if I can find something to bring over” implying heavily that no one ever asks for it. We ordered all but two of the appetizers and small plates. Two of them were seasoned appropriately, the other five needed more - esp the tots. We were most excited about them and they were the most disappointing. The other thing was that all the dishes were on the oily side - big puddles of finishing oil that after 5 share plates was a little excessive. Table shared the ribeye (5/5). The one vegetarian at the table had the yuba salad for entree and gave it 4.5/5.

   tl;dr- wannabe Michelin menu, average "fine casual" flavor, hide & seek service Service was very slow, but the restaurant wasn't busy. Server rarely did what they said the would do, and was out of sight until after food showed up for a quick "all good?" On that note, we ordered everything for the table at once, food was trickling out over an hour later. The pricing range on OpenTable is misleading-the cheapest "platter" I believe is $48 (chicken). Other "platters" include two pieces of Halibut for >$50, steak for >$80. I would be happy to pay that if the dining experience matched, but it was far from it. Many better options in Sac for the price and quality. Hard pass, unless you have $300 burning a hole in your pocket, you're hungry, and every other restaurant is closed.

   I took my wife here for Mother’s Day for their brunch. The food was flavorful but a lot of food had already gone cold and the platters were almost empty. We were sat at 3:30 and they stopped refilling the buffet at 4. There were dishes we didn’t get to try since they never refilled it. We enjoyed the food we got to try but feel ripped off for being served brunch left overs.

    Amazing Mothers Day brunch. Some items were not available at times, but the service and quality of food were, as usual, off the charts. They have also made their outdoor dining areas so comfortable and stylish. I actually prefer it to indoors. Way to go, Canon!

    The Mother's Day brunch was over-priced for what it was. My son got the yogurt parfait, which he said was warm. The fried rice was cold and tasteless. The service was horrendous. It took a server 10 minutes to greet us and get our drink order. He told me they'd have oat milk for my coffee in about 5 minutes. 40 minutes later, when he finally came to check on us, I asked about the oat milk. He got it for me but never refilled my coffee. So, hurray, I was able to add a drop of oat milk to my last sip of coffee. Normally, I wouldn't really care about something so minor, but paying $175 for a mediocre buffet and almost no service irks me.

    Fantastic halibut, definitely the highlight of the night. The lamb was very good as well, but a little heavy. The small plates were solid, but definitely a pricey for the portions. The dessert was overly salty. Ratios were a bit off, which was my biggest drawback with most of the dishes. Barely any polenta for the lamb, light on sauce/purée for the small plates, and the dessert had way too little creamy component, which left it overly dry. For the price I expected a little more. Drinks were very well composed, and aside from a toddler running around when we got there, ambiance was solid. Would definitely try it again

    Wow! Wow! Our first visit was on a weekday date night. Our server explained how Canon serves its courses. He suggested 3 small plates and 1 platter, which turned out to be a perfect amount. We chose carrots, salted potatoes and mussels with avocado plus halibut. Each dish was a creative use of flavors brought together in beautiful balance - and perfectly cooked. I love halibut and was so pleased to find it juicy. Although we are wine drinkers and fairly knowledgeable, we asked our server how our choices would work with our food choices. He was a great help and the Gamay was a good pairing. We can’t wait to go back.

    Andrew, our server, took care of us (8) perfectly. Having our retirement celebration being our first visit to Canon, we were thankful to have this separate 3-wall dining room. The drinks were fabulous and a great variety of their own mixes. With 8, they offer only a prix fixe menu, family style. But this was very nice as it enabled all of us to sample all of the multiple dishes, with a fine selection 2 of 4 entrees, 3 of 4 sides and a choice of 1 of 2 salads. We all thoroughly enjoyed the ribeye, smoked lamb and all the other very innovative dishes. The portions were perfect, several of us commented how full we felt. The bar area is beautiful. We were talking how unique this restaurant is and so happy to have found Canon!

    Our first time at Canon. It was amazing. The chicken entree was over then top. The best chicken I have ever tasted. Our server Jordan could not have been more helpful and kind. This place deserves a Michelin Star!

    Oysters were small and flavorless. The accompanying vinegars lent nothing to the experience. The confit beets were served at room temperature and were also flavorless, no salt, no spice, nothing. Some aromatic salt would have went a long way. Cashew cheese may as well not have been on the plate. Texture of the beets was pleasant. The carrots were just plain terrible. The flavor was akin to cheap teriyaki sauce. Served with a tiny scoop of white rice? Soggy, cold, white rice. Also served just below room temperature. The halibut dish was divine. No notes. Creamy, salty, tender, crispy. Divine. The duck fat potatoes were good..not great. Again, if they were served HOT with maybe a pinch of flaky smoked salt would have elevated the dish. The smoked chicken was unremarkable. The texture of the skin was nice, crispy. The chicken itself was tender and just fine. The peanut sauce was devoid of flavor. There was almost nothing there. Some honey and chili crisp in the sauce could have stepped the whole dish up. Also the amount of sauce was enough for maybe 2 of the 6 pieces. We scraped the dish to get enough to taste. NOW THE DESSERTS. The desserts were fantastic. The earl grey pavlova was so perfectly balanced and texturally exciting. Big hand for the campfire honey. The presentation was wonderful. We also had a chocolate peanut butter banana cream dessert that was very tasty as well. Crunchy bits of banana on top of the creamy dish was a great contrast. Some dehydrated strawberry powder, or maybe a macerated strawberry gelee would have made it a 10/10. It was a bit one note. The staff was above board. Wonderful. The whole dinner was $400. The value was not there. My money would have been better spent at Waterboy Sacramento.

    Canon is a great fine dining option for people in Sacramento. They offer a unique take on popular dishes like asparagus cooked in a creamy sauce and oysters with a smoked peach & raspberry flavoring. Of course, these dishes come at a premium price, so expect to open up the checkbook. In the end, the food, service, and overall atmosphere left me satisfied, which is priceless.

    Canon always has the best food, I wish I could order the whole menu. This time we had an amazing server who was super knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Canon has the potential to have a "too cool" vibe, but they are absolutely wonderful and gracious. It's a wonderful place worth every penny spent.

    Hate to leave the negative feedback but we didn't have a great experience. Halibut was fishy and the steak was chewy and the blue cheese and sauce overpowered the steak. Steps of service were consistently missed throughout the night.

    We started with the house made tator tots. They’re fantastic! Also three different craft cocktails that were delicious. Three of us shared the celery salad, the asparagus and the ribs. Outstanding!! It was my second time to Canon and I’ll definitely go back.
