Opened in 2005, Nostrana is Chef/Owner Cathy Whims' love letter to Italy. This is a restaurant built on relationships: with our amazing farmers and purveyors, our dedicated staff, and of course with you, our guest.

We hope to offer something timeless and authentic in a beautiful space, the regional specialties of Italy deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be better every day.

Very friendly knowledgeable server. She was very busy so quite long gaps between returns to the table. Sommelier was very friendly and helpful. It was a bustling place with a good atmosphere. Noisy, but we could talk without shouting.

Food was good, not great. It was meatball night. My husband had the meatball salad. I had the pasta special with the meatballs. Meatballs were tasty but very dry. My husband had fresh oysters. Oysters were fresh but he had to scrape off the shallots that overpowered the oysters. Good pizza.

Pannacotta desert was great. It was my husband’s 75th birthday and I had indicated that on Yelp. We didn’t expect anything but they brought out this wax candle rooster that was obviously used several times before, and lit it. It seemed a little tacky so I would ditch that if I were them.

Every bite was mouth watering. Many parties were waiting to be seated and we never felt pressured. Our server paced the evening perfectly. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I had a wonderful meal on the patio on a hot Sunday evening in July. The radicchio Caesar surpassed it's well-earned reputation and the capellini with bay shrimp was truly outstanding. The summer squash pizza was excellent, but a little more subtle than the capellini--although cutting our own slices with the pizza shears was fun. We also shared the very good Bruschetta, which had a warm fava bean puree that tasted a bit like a rich guacamole (in a good way). Since my cycling-obsessed husband rode 214 miles in the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride the day before, he was happy to see the great food choices at Nostrana. We ate every bite of everything we ordered. No doggy bags needed. Service was top notch and we were grateful to be on the patio--although the view of the parking lot is admittedly not that lovely. We'd gladly go back again for the great food and service. I was glad I made reservations (about one week in advance) as the restaurant was packed while we were there, with no empty seats on the patio. Highly recommended.

Nostrana is always consistently wonderful. We very much enjoyed our meal. We had the oysters, charcuterie, radicchio salad, trout and pasta. Only feedback would be to improve lighting.

Unfortunately, our visit to Nostrana was quite disappointing. We rushed to ensure we arrived on time for our 7:00pm reservation - I even called ahead to apologize to the hostess for running a few minutes late. When we arrived, we were told by the hostess that our table was not ready as the current guests were still on their dessert course. We were then encouraged to go to the bar next door to wait. We have a drink and waited a full 30 minutes before we were brought to our table. No apologies. Just a "settle the bill please so we can move you to your table." Once seated, we immediately got the sense from our waitress that the name of the game was to eat quickly and move on. She offered very little advice on the menu, seemed distracted and was paying most of her attention to a neighbouring table. We waited patiently for her attention. We seemed to be a bother to most of the staff we encountered. When my husband ordered the Chianto flight, another server dropped it off - I asked "can you tell us about these?" and she replied, "They're 1,2,3" and simply left. At the conclusion of our meal, we asked for a taxi to be called. When the driver arrived, he would not accept us until someone from the restaurant confirmed the call. When I asked the hostess for assistance, she reacted in a way that clearly communicated her exasperation not only with the situation, but with us. It was so disappointing. I wouldn't return to Nostrana, unfortunately. This is really too bad because the food was quite good. But if the service is sub par, everything suffers. Nostrana needs to ensure the basics are firmly covered....like well trained, professional staff....if they are to take it to the next level.

We had a nice dinner. We preferred outdoor seating but it was too busy. Our meals were outstanding and the service was good. We will probably be back.

Love this restaurant - a very celebratory neighborhood place worthy of any great food city. Love to just sit at the bar and have a Negroni, and enjoy the special! Staff has been there forever - a sign of a happy place to work too.

I love Nostrana most of the time. We took friends and the noise level was horrible. I know it is a cavernous space and difficult but wow! Our food was beautiful but not all was hot. No one wanted to complain because then we would dine at different times. I would say it was okay not excellent. The service was great as expected.

Every dish we had was excellent. The smoked trout fettuccine with fennel cream and the radicchio salad with caesar dressing were standouts. Don't miss the butterscotch pudding with salted caramel topping--it was incredible.

Fabulous server, excellent wine recommendation from the sommelier to compliment dinner. The radicchio Caesar salad is a house special and not to be missed

The food in general was quite good. Our starters were the tomato soup, excellent flavour, and the bean salad, very tasty. For the mains we had radiatori pasta which was spicy and flavourful, the trout fettucini and cod ravioli both delicate but flavourful, the 4th dish was the slow cooked (24 hrs) beef which was very disappointing, stringy and grey looking, with not enough flavour to overcome the appearance. Service was very good, attentive not fawning. A very pleasant evening in a nice setting, we would definitely revisit this restaurant.

Nostrana is good. Really good. I have opinions and everything, but overall, this is a great spot for a yummy meal made by thoughtful people. We had fun tasting the menu (including cocktails), and overall, we left feeling happy. And we are still talking about the linguine with smoked sturgeon (big surprise for us - we weren't really paying attention and just went with the 'fish' option... holy cow, it is wonderful. the savory-yummy-earthy-smoky-sweet-spicy-yummy-you-never-knew-you-wanted kind of good.)

Other things were also good. Burrata: pretty good. Octopus: let down. Overnight Beef: yummy. Linguine w smoked sturgeon: wonderful.

Staff is totally haughty without any justifiable reason. I ordered halibut which surprised me by being a potato cake which was grossly fishy with burned garlic. I found it virtually inedible.

The food was not prepared well; not sure if it was the end of the night and cooks were rushing or what the deal was. Burnt (black), super oily bread (my hands were covered in it), uncooked pizza in the middle, flavorless pasta (no salt, hardly any sauce...dry). We didn’t even try to finish any of the dishes. So disappointing when we were extremely excited to try this place for the first time. And bar service was unfortunate; busy talking to their friends and it felt like they wrote us off from the second we sat down and ordered off the happy hour menu.

We waited 2 hours for our food AFTER ordering. And the fingerling potatoes actually resembled an extremely small portion of freezer frozen fried potatoes.

Very disappointing experience.

Great date night spot for our last night in Portland. We started with a couple glasses next door at Enoteca Nostrana before our dinner reservation. Girlfriend loves places with delicious pizzas and although the list is shorter than some places we are used to in California the dungeness crab pizza was awesome and our server practically hugged me when I opted to add a fried egg to the pie. The wine director was very helpful explaining the differences between the three I narrowed it to and we had a great Teroldego for the first time. Place had an overall good vibe and wasn't very loud given the size of the crowd. Will visit again during a future Portland trip!

This place is awesome! Great old warehouse space. Excellent wine list - almost all Italian and huge variety. Our server was super cool and helpful. Oh and the food was spectacular. Plus they have a cool wine bar next door in case you have to wait. Highly recommend!

Some of the most amazing food I’ve ever had! The staff are amazing and gave a great upscale dining experience. We dined on a very busy saturday evening and though they were very busy, nothing ordered was forgotten.
