Nostrana—literally ours—invokes local. Simple food from honest ingredients. Pure, regional, Italian. Opened in 2005, Nostrana is Chef/Owner Cathy Whims’ love letter to Italy. This is a restaurant built on relationships: with our amazing farmers and purveyors, our dedicated staff, and of course with you, our guest.

We hope to offer something timeless and authentic in a beautiful space, the regional specialties of Italy deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be better every day.

We're currently reserving indoor tables and bar seating. When available, outdoor patio reservations may be subject to weather disruptions.

A Service Charge of 22% is applied to all checks at Nostrana, providing a professional and equitable wage for all team members.

From the OpenTable editors: Open since 2005, multi-James Beard Award-nominated chef Cathy Whims’s flagship restaurant still turns out some of the city’s best Italian food. Feast on wood-fired thin-crust pizzas and a 2.5-pound Florentine-style bone-in ribeye, plus seasonal pastas and mains in a lodge-like space with soaring vaulted ceilings and festive hanging lanterns. Toast the meal with a celebratory cocktail—Thrillist dubbed Nostrana “Portland’s capital of the negroni.”

    Our waitress kept us informed about the relatively slow service, but the restaurant was very busy and it was Saturday night. My wife’s salmon was excellent. My clams and capellini was not good and they took it off the bill which was appreciated. The salads were quite larger; we could have shared one. We will go back again.

    We went for our Anniversary and we were treated amazingly. Our waitstaff was courteous, charming and on top of what we needed, even though it was a busy Saturday night.

    Party of 4. One vegetarian and one with dairy sensitivities. The vegetarian ordered a dish that was good but much larger than anticipated. The other diner had a difficult time deciding on his meal even after a long conversation with the very helpful server. He was told that many of the sauces and preparations were made ahead, leaving very few options. The other two diners had a good experience

    Quick seating with a reservation. Gnocchi Thursday is a highlight. Very u inquest flavors and pairing. Gnocchi alla romana was a big favorite

    Excellent food and atmosphere. A star off for service as our server (and other servers) were interested in chatting with a friend at the bar and we felt ignored for a few minutes more than usual. Once the friend left, service was better.
