Contemporary American
Serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Tuesday through Saturday, Closed Sunday and Monday.
With the opening of Fruition Restaurant in 2007, Alex Seidel set out to create Denver’s first restaurant offering sophisticated comfort food. Holding fast to the vision of creating a learning environment for himself, his staff, and ultimately his guests, Alex realized there was more to cooking food than just assembling ingredients. His growing respect for and relationships with small farmers and foragers is what helped shape Alex’s next career move. In 2009, Alex purchased a small farm in Larkspur, Colorado, home now to Colorado’s first artisanal sheep dairy; Fruition Farms Dairy and Creamery. With these experiences in hand, all Alex needed was a platform to share these artisan products with the community. That is Mercantile dining & provision, our next venture and an outlet for the farm and our deep relationships with both local and international purveyors.

Way too loud. Made the evening uncomfortable. People who work there are very nice and professional. I like that the gratuity was included. But I probably will not be back bc of the noise. Additionally the wine by the glass was way too expensive. Should be a lower priced glass for each type. I would recommend but share my views

Booked a brunch for my daughters birthday. The food was mediocre and service was okay but not great. Everything had a 20% surcharge which we knew ahead of time but still disappointed we’d pay over 7 bucks for a cup of latte and it can’t even be made nonfat. Worst part was there was a hair in my food which was gross as it was very embedded in the food and discovered halfway through the plate. Will not go back

Have been here a few times pre-pandemic and always enjoyed it, but this time not so much. We arrived a few minutes early and they said they were waiting for tables to turn, so we sat at the bar. It literally took almost 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, and they were a little brusque. We had only gotten one of our drinks when our table opened, so we sat down. When we asked for the menu, the waiter sort of admonished us to look at the QR code, but finally got us a paper version. The food overall was good, but I think there are better choices out there. Also, they include a 20% compulsory gratuity and you're then gently "encouraged" to give more. I wonder if the staff's knowing that they get 20% regardless leads to less overall enthusiasm, but who knows.

Our dinner was perfect. The menu is small however the food was perfectly cooked and we especially enjoyed the fennel dish. It was a surprising and refreshing dish. Dessert was outstanding as well. I had read the reviews about parking so we parked at a parking garage and walked one block to the restaurant and enjoyed the walk. Over all the food was outstanding the service was very good.

Amazing food!! We came for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The food was seriously amazing! We started with the Moroccan meatballs so good. How they get them so crispy and moist idk. For dinner my husband had the ribeye. Awesome presentation but for him even better food. The black garlic underneath he said was so good. I got the fusseli with pesto. A surprise kick not the biggest portion but it was good. For dessert we got the chocolate bar. OMG! That pinch of cardamom in the caramel sauce sets it over the top. It’s rich, light and oh so good. Def needs shared. I love dessert and couldn’t eat one alone. Rich and delicious. This place is a treat. Pricey. But amazing service and even better food. Next time we will have to request outside. My husband is hard of hearing and he couldn’t hear me or the wait staff and we asked to move outside but they couldn’t seat us. They did send us home with two out their macaroons as a special happy anniversary. That was super sweet!

I had dinner with a friend at Mercantile pre-pandemic and really enjoyed it. The food, atmosphere, and service were excellent. I had a business lunch there yesterday and it was a completely different experience. The noise level was much higher than I expected, making conversation with my colleague difficult. Our server was nice, however, he really rushed us through the meal, asking us "how were the first bites?" while leaving our check on the table. At $19, the Shrimp Bowl was overpriced - consisting of 3 shrimp, 1/2 of a small ajitama egg, a few small, random pieces of lettuce and rice (no chili crisp). When I made the reservation, I received a message suggesting that I valet. Since I couldn't park in my usual garage, I went the valet route, not knowing that it would be $17 to park for less than 90 minutes. The valet was extremely rude - hitting my car HARD with his hand to let me know that I was parking "incorrectly" and then brusquely asking if I wanted him to park my car. When I paid for my parking after lunch, he took my $20 and without even saying thank you or looking at me, asked "Do you want your change back?" Overall it was a very disappointing experience. I'm so glad I suggested an alternate restaurant to my significant other who was planning to hold a business dinner there later that night. It would've been a disaster.

Perfect for a party of 6, we were seated in a great location. We had a rez, got seated right away on a Saturday. Hostess and staff were attentive. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their selection. The Turkish eggs were outstanding and the Dutch baby pancake as well. Timing of the meal was spot on. Also, the coffee and lattes were very good. Will return. Saturday brunch has a somewhat limited menu. The Union Station is a fun location and the Merchantile shop had some nice options for purchases.

Really disappointing. Was one of my top five restaurants and now i won't go back. They were out of 3 of their top entrees. Had to order things we didn't care for much. We ordered the charcuterie board as an appetizer and waitress came back later to tell us that too was out of stock. We ordered some rather "dry" meatballs as an alternative. They should warn diners before seating them that much of the top menu items are out of stock before seating folks. This was a Friday night with 7:45 pm reservations so even more surprising that so many items not available.

Been her several times before, so I am not sure what happened... I was on a dought-daddy date night. To start, our server made us feel very rushed, and was super impatient, yet they were not overbooked. Next, we ordered appetizers (meatballs) and they were completely raw - sent them back and had them recook. And, please keep in mind... i HATE sending things back and I am not a picky eater. We then waiting an hour and ten minutes to get our main courses - i had a feeling they forgot to put in the order (which happens), but was assured our food was in the queue and it would be out shortly. I ordered my salmon extra well done, and crispy on the outside (that's how i love it and always order it). It came out ,and I knew instantly, it too was raw inside and well undercooked (for how I ordered it). They took it back, but that time, we tired and decided to call it a night. The waiter , by this time, was getting visibly frustrated with us. I helped my daughter eat her pasta (which was good , by the way), and we finished our drinks. The waiter set the tab on our table and said, there's already a 20% gratuity added on there. Now i could see why they didn't need to feel the need to offer good service. And, to boot, never did a manager come over and talk to us, nor see what they could do to resurrect the meals. I am not sure if it was an "off-night" there; nevertheless, I don't think ill ever return. Too many other great restaurants in Denver to choose from. Salut!

Savory Food was absolutely incredible. We tried multiple things in every category and one was better than the next. Dessert missed the mark a little, it was pretty, but not as tasty as the savory foods were. Wine list is thoughtful. Only negative was that we had to ask constantly for water service - it would not have happened unless we asked everytime we could.

Highly anticipated, hugely disappointed. Food was overcooked, portions tiny. Pasta bland. Overpriced. Unintelligible 15 page wine list thrown on the table, next to nothing less than $200, most over $400. At least give some guidance at those prices. Mandatory 20% tip plus 3% for historic district. And the restrooms are shared with the bus/train station. If you need to go when the Greyhound arrives, be prepared to line up down the hall (40 people M+F), looked like many “residents” of the bus terminal. Not what you’d expect at that price. And why is it so hard to get a reservation? The place was empty. I wonder why.

While the food wasn’t “bad” it just wasn’t what once was. What happened to eclectic and exciting cuisine here? Even the provisions board had every day mortadella and pastrami, just 3 green beans and 3 pickles. The cheeses were good though. The pappardelle had what appeared to be ground duck, certainly not what you would expect for “confit of duck”, it also lacked seasoning even salt would have helped. Sorry but no compelling reason to head back here.

Truly an amazing experience. The price was right for the exceptional quality. The staff made my birthday so special. I dined alone (as I like to travel solo at times) and they really brought out all the stops - from wishing me happy birthday when I came in for my reservation, to a candle in my desert and champagne on the house. If that weren’t enough, the packed macaroons for me to take home as a birthday present. I felt feeling so loved. Thank you!!

I am sorry to submit such a poor review, but this is what actually happened: The night before our reservation, we stopped by and just wanted to have a glass of wine outside on their patio sofas. Which were unoccupied. The hostess informed us there was 35 - 45 minute wait (which we assumed were for dining tables, not patio sofas). We live next door to The Mercantile and come here all the time for breakfast, lunch, and the occasional dinner. In the past, we have gotten a glass of wine at the bar and gone outside to sit on the sofas. totally chill. so on this evening, we thought we could do the same. My friend and I sat on the sofas and our husbands went to the bar to order our drinks. The hostess came out and VERY rudely kicked us off of the sofas, saying there is a waiting list for these as well. So, we went back inside and STOOD at the bar drinking our wine. We were there about an hour and in that entire time, NO ONE occupied those sofas. My blood was boiling. To be treated like second class citizens by a rude young woman is unacceptable. She saw us standing at the bar and knew those sofas were unoccupied. If she were my employee, she would be fired for treating my client in such an ill mannered way. We promptly went home and cancelled our reservation for August 19, and had a fabulous dinner at another new restaurant in the neighborhood, Avelina. I know Alex Seidel would be appalled at the way we were treated--all of their staff has always been superb so this was a real shock. With all the new restaurants opening in our neighborhood, I doubt we will return to the Mercantile for dinner.

We had the most wonderful dinner at The Mercantile for my birthday. They had a birthday card and served all of us a glass of sparkling wine. The service was some of the best we have had and the food was exceptional. The Arctic Char if they have it on the menu is a "must have". I can not say enough good things about Mercantile! Everything in our meal was perfect! We shared a Market Provision Platter and a ricotta gnudi. Both were amazing. The entrees were wonderful but the key lime dessert topped off a perfect evening. The bar makes delicious cocktails and Patrick, the sommelier, picked perfect wine pairings for each dish. This is my favorite restaurant in Denver. The food is always delicious, the drinks are fabulous and the staff makes you want to return again and again.

The food was extremely fresh and well prepared. A true farm to table restaurant with the food locally sourced. The tomato salad and octopus appetizers were delicious as was the duck entrees and the pistachio olive oil cake for dessert.
