Tapas / Small Plates
Santa Monica
About the restaurant

The golden lights at this bi-level tapas spot make sure everyone looks good—critical to a smooth first date. Start at the bar or one of the stand-up high-tops and sip on Spanish wines and sherries, which pair well with chef Sandra Cordero’s top-notch pintxos like scallops with saffron butter. If things are going really well, move to an upstairs table and keep the small-plates party going.

About the restaurant

The flickering lights from chef Brian Dunsmoor’s wood-fired hearth and the tapered candles on the long wooden tables set the scene for one romantic night at this Glasswell Park favorite. The food is heavenly, the staff is friendly, the service is quick, and it's a beautiful restaurant. It is a little noisy, so be prepared for that, but honestly totally worth it for the food. I highly recommend the filet, as well as their house butterscotch pot for dessert!

Famed chef Nancy Silverton’s Osteria Mozza is a dimly lit, white tablecloth staple that’s a top choice for an all-out special-occasion date. Downtown
About the restaurant

Chef Neal Fraser’s Downtown icon is a celebration go-to for many reasons, including its opulent, former cathedral setting and imaginative American dishes, to name a few. Which is why it’s an ideal place to pop the question while splurging on black truffle cavatelli and a porterhouse for two. Not to mention an extensive Champagne list, which makes toasting especially convenient after the yes.

Soul food
LAX / Westchester
About the restaurant

The Afro-Latin food at this modern-casual spot (run by two longtime friends who started with a street taco spot) is perfect for a big crew. Spread out on one of the wooden picnic tables, take in the throwback R&B tunes, and share dish after dish, like honey berbere chicken bites and passion fruit ceviche with shrimp and scallops. Then devour a big platter of jollof rice studded with black beans, plantains, and more.

The food is FABULOUS!! Never disappointed. The catfish seasoned to perfection. The black beans delicious. The Jollof rice.. no words. AMAZING. I eat here at least once a week. The burger and garlic fries are great. Fries are crisp crunchy outside and served hot with a great sauce. The Mahi tostadas flavorful. I do not exaggerate. Everyone needs to have a taste. And the atmosphere is cool and mellow with great service

About the restaurant

You’ll get dinner and all sorts of entertainment at this sprawling restaurant-bar complex. But the best show unfolds at Mr. Wanderlust, a library-like drinks den with live DJs, musicians, and aerialists who swing from the restaurant’s chandelier. The ambiance was nice, clean and comfortable. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We only got the truffle fries, but they were very good. The drinks were good. A little pricey and came with the included 18% gratuity. But it's in LA so it was expected, so no big deal. The only problem was our reservations were for 615 and the entertainment didn't start until 730. The guy comes out on the piano plays 3 songs and stops. Then another show starts at 830. So the lack of entertainment was the only complaint about the evening. But we still had a good time.
