They remodeled, and it’s even more gorgeous and classy! The manager is very hands-on and a delight!
Since the menu and decoration change, the restaurant has gone downhill. The ambiance is not the same neither is the service. Thank God the food is still outstanding! I am a VIP and have been eating at Lawrys for over 60 years. The last 2 visits have been disappointing.
Great value, usual quality during Dine LA.
I’ve been here several times. I usually love it. This occasion was not a particularly good experience and the fact that I’m writing about it is even more telling.
Service was lacking, and though I understand we had a 9 pm reservation, it was clear that the only thing on the staff’s mind was leaving for the night.
Then when it came time to carve my steak, which I asked for medium rare, I was given a small cut (I don’t even know what the name of it is - California cut?) when I had in fact requested the Brady bone in cut. When I did finally get the cut I’d asked for, it was more medium well than medium rare!! So disappointing...
Next: we ordered the side of mushrooms. A seemingly nice assortment of your typical farmed mushrooms though they lacked any type of seasoning whatsoever. It was so sad!! It was as though they simply forgot to season and the cardinal sin in a kitchen - a chef plated and sent out an item without tasting and verifying the seasoning!
But they did give us something unexpected in those mushrooms - a hair. Never mind salt, they just seasoned our mushrooms with hair. My girl was sadly the one who spotted it as I would’ve played it off and not made a scene, but she went to take a bite and luckily actually saw and noticed the hair literally just inches from putting the spoonful of mushrooms and hair in her mouth.
We notified the server, nice enough mature lady, just not very attentive. She whispered to one of the other dining room staff that we’d found a hair however there was no follow up on her part, a manager or even a bother to ask if they get take away those mushrooms and bring us out a fresh “hairless” serving.
All in all, it was very embarrassing for me to promise this girl a nice steak dinner when the dining experience was amateur at best instead of the classy and satisfying experience I’ve come to expect from Lawry’s. So disappointing...
We have been coming to Lawry's since the late 1970s on a yearly basis. It is our celebration restaurant. We miss the Old English ambiance since your remodel, but appreciate the clean upscale look. Thank you for keeping the lions as a remembrance. Our classic prime rib dinners were a gastronomic delight for the most part. The prime rib was beyond excellent. I miss the previous larger plate of salad with larger tidbits of egg and beets and grape tomatoes. The dressing was delicious as always so we bought a bottle along with a jar of fudge sauce. I also miss the buttered peas. Our team of waitresses were excellent, but I missed having my baked potato toppings swirled table-side. Our carver was a master and gave us insight about ordering takeout prime rib for a special occasion party at home. My husband appreciated his birthday trifle. We both had the coconut cream pie, but it was not the same. My husband said he could pick up a refrigerator flavor. I thought the crust, which is the only pie crust I normally devour, was a bit too oily. I did not get sick, but felt a bit queasy after that. I can't totally blame it on the pie, because the food was so outstanding, I ate every last morsel instead of being a proper lady and reserving some for later. Kudos to your chef. We tried the sauteed mushrooms and kale with bacon. They were very tasty. I may go vegan next time and try your marinated portabello mushroom. It will be hard with the aroma of prime rib in the air. We will be back. Thank you for a mostly excellent meal experience.
after frequenting lawrys for over 30 years my last visit was a disappointment. there are just too many other dining options in la to go to a mediocre restaurant. i hope this was just an off night.
Good Prime Rib small portions for what you pay for... cuts seem to get smaller each time we come in. Service was outstanding..
Thank you for making my celebration with my niece and nephew the best!
Excellent, as always! Now if you could just do something about the traffic... ;-)
We’ve been a customer for over 30 yrs. The quality food and service has been very consistent. We’ll definitely keep coming back.
Always love Lawry's. It was especially nice because it was not too crowded. Wish the Sundae was part of the dining package.
The meal is always great, but the DineLA was even better with added lobster tail, vegetable and dessert.
The service is always impeccable and the food is delicious. I have yet to find another restaurant were the prime rib is so tender that you can slice it with a butter knife. This is my go-to restaurant for a great meal.
Overpriced and honestly not worth it. I attended for my birthday and was greeted by two servers. The first women server was great but the second male server was very snobby and didnt make me feel wecomed at all. I got the Lawrys cut and my potions were terrible. The steak tasted ok but definitely not worth 60$ a plate. Overall disappointed not worth the price there are better steakhouses
I was under the impression I was going for the dine LA, it wasn’t the case, the dates got moved to a later date. So I ended up paying full price. Not so nice to do that!
Grandpa’s B Day did not disappoint!! As usual.
Roast beef looked beautiful but didn’t have flavor.
Bread was sandwich bread-not good
Lawry's might be old and old-fashioned, but they still deliver a good show and great food - stick to what they do best - PRIME RIB - and you can't go wrong. Our server was friendly and when he was around, attentive, but he seemed to be completely occupied by the larger table near us and would ignore us for long periods of time. The host as well as the server said we were being serviced be two people, but we never saw the female server except when she made our salad (seriously she wasn't even helping the large party that we could see - where was she?!). Something definitely was wrong with their "team service" approach that night. But overall it was a good experience with excellent food!
Lawry's is never disappointing. We were pleasantly surprised to get there early and the restaurant was open!! it just made our Sunday a great evening, since we were kind of short on time to go to the theatre. We enjoyed a very nice early dinner. It was wonderful!
Beef bowl perfection. Fantastic as usual.
do not order seafood, all my family got sick after ordering "special" that waiter highly recommended.
It’s always perfect at Lawry’s. Great food. Great service. Fun times!
We have been coming to Lawry’s for over 15 years. Their food never disappoints.
Would have given 5 stars for service, but we ordered a side of mushrooms, which didn’t come out until we were almost done. I ordered banana cream pie for desert and I had to ask for it twice.
We took our 8 year old grandson there got something special. He though everything was awesome.
Tara and Clara were great. We had an excellent experience.
Outstanding dining experience, prime rib was magnificent, service exemplary, ambiance was perfect, wine room was an unexpected treat, would highly recommend Lawry's to friends and family looking for the memorable dining experience.
The food is as tasty as the spot is popular. The provide excellent service in a great atmosphere.
Had a great birthday dinner. Prime rib was amazing!
Our waitress was incredible. Her name was Fiona, and she was absolutely one of the most attentive, but not obtrusive servers ever. it was our selected destination for our "pre-40th" reunion, of the USC Dental Class of 1980. It did not disappoint.
Always a treat to come here! Food is always excellent and the service is outstanding.
Perfect for any occasion great food great service highly recommended
my server v rude, we gave a tip with some coin around 3 bucks, and she mocking at us, and she dont want to count the money, she ask other waitress to count it! and the waitress count wrongly 2 times, and asking why u give me 10dollar? and i ask count correctly!! and 2nd count 10% why u gv me 10% and my.fren angry and told her its 15% , count properly, and after that 1st server come again and mocking again u give me change! why if we giving u coins ? its a legal money , not at toy money right?
the service in unacceptable! v rude server its a old lady,
My girlfriend and I dined in last night for her birthday. She was very excited to come here since she loves prime rib. Unfortunately our first experience was a terrible one. It took 15 minutes after being seated to finally get any attention. All of the servers were busy helping big parties and completely ignored us. Finally when our server did show up , she asked us if we would like to order any appetizers, yet we hadn’t even been asked if we would like to order any drinks first. Later my girlfriend had questions about the menu to which our server said she had to help someone else before she could answer any questions. What kind of establishment is this? Finally our food arrives and my girlfriend isn’t given a steak knife to cut her prime rib and is left with a butter knife.... really? Enter our savior through out our evening, Noel. He was the first one to greet us and was courteous through our evening. He quickly got us a steak knife and asked if we were doing ok throughout the rest of the evening and our original server nowhere to be found. We were there for two hours for just two drinks an appetizer two entrees and dessert. The majority of the time being spent on waiting for our server(s) to order our drinks, order our food, be able to ask questions about the menu. Needless to say I will never be back.
Absolutely love this place! It’s my go to for every special dinner!
Yes I would recommend Lawry's to Anyone who wants an incredible meal. We had Not been to Lawry's in over 20 years. And when we finally came back..the food, the service , everything was just as wonderful, and delicious as it was 20 years ago. If you want a fantastic dining experience and a great piece of Prime Rib..there is no place on earth better then Lawry's Prime Rib.
Food was great as always. The waitress was rushing us, or it felt like it, towards the end of our meal. We could have done without that.
We came here to celebrate my niece's 25th birthday and it did not disappoint! We've dined at all of the Lawry locations and they are all consistently great. While pricey, the cost is met with quality food, great service and a beautiful dining location.
Service was outstanding!
