Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

We dined at Opus 9 on our 45th wedding anniversary. The food and service were exceptional, as usual. One of our favorite restaurants.

It’s a true experience - not just dinner. There are plenty of choices and the food was excellent. We had the pork shank, salad and chocolate tart. All were delicious. The musician (playing mandolin, flute, and pocket violin) and the servers - all in character - explaining customs of the period were delightful!

This is our favorite restaurant in town, and we have never been disappointed. The quality, flavor and presentation is Michelin star deserving. I tried the Halibut which was a special in the menu and it was a sensorial experience like no other. We tried their interpretation of Gaspacho which is a cold soup from Spain, it was very good as well, for dessert you can’t go wrong with an amazing trio gelato.

We discovered Berret’s last year we we visited Williamsburg for the 1st time in 30 years. We liked it so much that we had 3 lunches and dinners there. Of course we choose it this year to celebrate my birthday and really loved our server Marnie! The raw oysters are so fresh, delicious and priced well! We also enjoyed our crape cakes and the snapper special. Berrets is consistently delicious, affordable and the service is impeccable. So much so, that we are taking friends there for lunch on Sunday!

My wife and I have eaten at this Colonial Williamsburg tavern numerous times over our 48 years of marriage. Every single time has been very good. When I made the reservation the site asked was there an occasion for the visit and I stated wedding anniversary. When we arrived a lovely Happy Anniversary card was there and given to us upon our seating. The staff there has always been very good, but this time we had a waiter Timothy who in our visits to Colonial Williamsburg was the best server we have ever had. He really made our 48th Anniversary an evening to remember with his high level of service. I shook his hand at the end of the evening in thanks. We really like the atmosphere in all the taverns (Christiana Campbell's, Kings Arms, Chowning's, Shields). During your dining a musical player in period dress will play at least one song while you dine. This night we had a lovely lady play the harp. Also the lighting in the dining areas is all by candlelight. The cost of dining for an entree starts in the mid-twenties and are prepared from the colonial era with usually one chef's special to choose from. We highly recommend visitors to Colonial Williamsburg to experience dining here or any of the other taverns.
