While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

    Amazing meal at Morimoto. I was a solo diner and got to sit at the sushi bar where my curiosity was fulfilled with the view of the chefs preparations. I chose the omakase menu (treat yo self) and it was incredible. I only wish I could eat more…but who could ask for better lunch leftovers? 100% the best salmon I’ve ever had in my life. They upgraded my meat course to the waygu which if you’ve never had it I’d describe as perfectly cooked meaty fat. The dessert was a work of art. Service was perfectly attentive and incredibly friendly and nice. 10 out of 10!

    Great night celebrating our 20th anniversary. Service was great. Restaurant is very pretty. Steaks (filet) were excellent. Shoestring onion rings super good. Cauliflower was WOW! The creamed spinach was a little over the top with garlic. Bread pudding was yummmmmy!

    Amazing. Ordered branzino with chorizo mirepoix and coconut rice. Also got coconut shrimp salad (included cucumber and mango). Flavors were perfect. Service was very attentive. Atmosphere was great. The entry was beautiful with a long corridor of greenery.
