Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Popoca is a Salvadoran-inspired restaurant in the heart of Oakland. Popoca means “to emit smoke” in Nawat, the language of native people of El Salvador who stoked wood fires to prepare food over a comal for their families. Revered as more than just a means of cooking, smoke represents a prayer or offering to the spirits.Popoca is a mix of heritage and play. Our food is driven by preserving past, creating something new and uniquely Oakland. After years of pop-ups, Popoca has its own digs in the Old Oakland neighborhood, where the pupusas, chicken with fermented pineapple sauce, and other Cali-Salvadoran specialties are happily devoured.

This was my first time here and I really enjoyed it. The service was really good and so was the food & cocktails. I had the lamb chops, which were seasoned to perfection, chefs kiss. The Pink Flamingo cocktail was delicious. I accidentally left my to go boxes, called the restaurant, and she remembered me and kept my food at the front for me, so I went back to grab it. I will definitely be back.

Food is screaming good, from the shareables to the mains. The wait staff is on it; they know the menu, so if you have questions ask, want a recommendation ask. It’s a small menu all of which is done well. Oh & do not forget the dessert, amazing, scrumptious must leave room for. New favorite place!

We love Tiki Bars and proper Tiki cocktails and this place is a proper Tiki bar and has proper drinks. Fantastic energy and service. The cocktails are fantastic. They have fruity sweet cocktails of you prefer that but most importantly, they have true classic savory tiki drinks. With lots of herbal and spice notes available. Their classic Trader Vic’s Mai Tai was just about perfect. The jet pilot was also spot on. I love that they keep it cocktail focused, and it’s not a restaurant with cocktails. But it would be nice if the food selection was a little bit cleaner. The guacamole and chips was fantastic. However, it would be nice if they had something other than the guac or hummus on the menu that wasn’t deep-fried. But I understand that they don’t want it to be a food spot. Fantastic overall 95/100. Will be back there again next week.

Our server was Uriel; he took care of us wonderfully. The Reibekuchen and Fried Brussels Sprouts were outstanding as was the Leek and Mushroom Soup. The Salmon and Chicken Schnitzel were done perfectly. For dessert we had Strudel and Cheese Cake.
