Having recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Union Street, Perry’s remains an enormously popular San Francisco institution. Perry Butler initially opened Perry’s in 1969, bringing to Union Street the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood saloons of New York’s Upper East Side. The blue and white checked tablecloths, hexagonal tiled floor, wood-paneled memorabilia clad walls, and menu of American classics produced an atmosphere that has held true today-- comfortable, inviting and cool. Testament to its timeless appeal, Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and a fun, bustling bar. Perry"s traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish.

My favorite restaurant in San Francisco. There are a few comparable or possibly superior spots, but they are quite a bit more expensive: Atelier Crenne, Benu, a few others. But, if you would like great food, great service and warm inviting place. Please try this San Francisco stable of fine dining.

A throw back to days of Sinatra, waiters in short white coats and martinis. Location is by the piers, off the main drag so it is quiet. Went for lunch. Excellent service. Best crab cakes I ever had, fantastic New England style clam chowder. I had linguine and clams perfectly cooked with lots of clams and just the right amount of butter, white wine and garlic. The cioppino is classic here too. The restaurant is dated but kept up. There is valet parking in the back. Street parking is tough in this area. Fisherman’s wharf is a shell of its former self which is sad to see. This place may be the last one standing unless the city gets its act together.

Kokkari always provides a stellar experience all around. The food is incredibly delicious—we particularly recommend the stuffed calamari and the roast chicken—and the service thoughtful. One of our favorite restaurants, where we know we will have a great evening out.

Greens is an SF gem with delicious healthy entrees, decadent desserts, great wine list, and fabulous views and ambiance. I’ve been going since its founding and it has updated its menu but kept the good bones. We were seated in a lovely side dining room with views of the Golden Gate. This will be my go to place to dine with visiting friends and family.
