We are centrally located off Hwy. 101 in San Rafael, across for the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center. La Toscana is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and bar located in Marin County. It was established in 1985 by Paolo Mori, his wife, Marilyn, and Michele Quilici. The owners all grew up in Lucca, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950s. They wanted to create an atmosphere that reminded them of home – a place where locals would gather to eat, meet friends and family and celebrate with food and wine as every Italian family does. Chef and co— owner Giovanni Racanello joined La Toscana in 1986. Paolo and Marilyn’s daughter, Laura Mori Riella, and youngest son, Michael Mori, joined the La Toscana team in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Paolo loved to make people feel welcome and, just like all the Moris, enjoyed his food and wine and loved to see others do the same. This is the proud tradition that La Toscana carries on.

Please join us for dinner at our new Buvette du Marais wine bar, nowserving at the Marin Country Mart on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdaynights from 5 to 9 pm. We are delighted to bring the flavors ofCalifornia and France together in Chef Kosta's kitchen. Everything onhis menu is absolutely delicious and well executed. The flavors arebright and the ingredients market fresh, classic French dishes madelocal and organic — crab croquettes, rillettes de saumon, saladed’endives, pommes purée made the traditional way with crème fraîche, filet mignon, market fish au feu de bois, soupe à l'oignon, house madepastas, and more. One of our favorite dishes is a vegetarian hachisparmentier made with mushrooms, the perfect seasonal meal that can beenjoyed with a courgette marinated zucchini starter and a lovelybottle of Chateau Neuf du Pape. The magic of the night at the Martcreates a Parisian setting in this gem of a bistro with great wineselections from France and beyond.

We held our wedding rehearsal dinner here back in 2000…fast forward 25 years, and we feel privileged to say that this place is as spectacular as ever! They acknowledged our anniversary with a nice, simple card, and the staff went out of their way (especially our server!) Several came over to wish us well, or advise on a wine or food. Every detail was taken care of promptly and professionally. It still feels surprisingly local and friendly, at least to us. Their success could easily make that not the case, but we certainly loved their welcoming hospitality. The food was terrific. I really, really loved the hamachi appetizer, and my wife and I are excited to see if we can approach making something similar. The lamb chops my wife had were slightly better than the bevette steak I had. Both were spectacular, all the way to the sauces, veggies, and we both enjoyed the various regional flavors that emoted to us. NB: they do lean a bit to the rare side, and our server told us, and helped me dial in my preference. I prefer at fine dining places like this to be medium rare, as most places at this caliber can be very precise. I found their placement to be on the rarer side of this, which they classified as medium. So if you order the steak, do explore that with your server. 10/10 highly recommend!!

Always amazing! Goat cheese salad and the Caesar were tasty. Spaghetti with shrimp was delicious -- Chef Valenti finds the best jumbo shrimps. Sea bass was superb. We had panna cotta for dessert and took home a tiramisu for the next day. Superb service by Cristiano and team. It doesn't get any better!
