Bar Chelou is Pasadena’s first true neo-bistro, a casual, convivial space that is both a distillation of Chef Doug Rankin's broad gastronomic interests and a deeply personal expression of his individualistic style. The restaurant is located within the Pasadena Playhouse complex. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had in LA. The food was delicious and the ambience was perfect for a fun date night. We were seated at the Chef’s Counter because I read reviews prior that said it’s the best… it was! All of the apps & entrees were great, but the dish that has us wanting to go back is the Pork & Green Chili Stew with handmade tortillas! The lamb sirloin is a close second favorite. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Prices were high for small dishes, but I’d be strategic on the next visit and not order so much. We definitely over ordered too many dishes.

We eat at True Food often because the food is healthy and generally very good (and they have upgraded their desserts). Like the ambiance. On this occasion, we had a party of 8 and our table was waiting, our wait staff was excellent, and we were able to talk because the noise level outside was quiet. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails and meals.

I love afternoon tea and this was a good experience. The tea and scones were great. The service was excellent. However, the tea sandwiches were only ok. It was also possible to easily hear the conversations from other tables and unfortunately our neighbors made me want to drive a for in my ear to avoid overhearing them. Still, it was a beautiful location and I love afternoon tea so I’d still recommend the visit.
