About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Good for business meals
Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

Service was slow. Ran out of the entree choice that 4 out of 5 of us had ordered - server didnt tell us until 45 minutes after we ordered. rest of the food was “ok”. Kokkari has been resting on its laurels as an expense account / convention restaurant. I will never go back.

Kokkari is consistent and never disappoints. The only disappointment I had was that I couldn’t partake in the pork ribs that was slowly cooking in the fireplace and only available during dinner! Love this place! I’ve been going here for years.

This was a lunch. We started with the grilled octopus….perfect for two to share. My guest had the lamb chops and I enjoyed the halibut. Both perfectly cooked. A great lunch.

Get the pan fried cheese appetizer, Saganaki, the lamb (chops or shank) and petrale sole, all are amazing. Service was excellent. Nice cocktails too!

The octopus appetizer is outstanding, perfect for 2 people. Lamb Riblets were also reall good, a little bit of fat on them but was not nasty in anyway. Had Greek wines, both wetre delicious. Main courses of Moussaka, Octop[us Salad and whole Branzine were loved by all.

Love the delicious food, calm decor and attentive and friendly service! You can tell this restaurant is run well. It’s not only about the food here. They focus on the overall dining experience. I finally had the opportunity to dine here for lunch after 10 years of working in the FiDi district. Oh my! I had been missing out! I had the Moussaka, which is a staple for me as a “must-try” on my first visit to every Mediterranean restaurant i go to. The ground beef & lamb in this dish was perfectly blended. Not gamy tasting at all. With its bechamel sauce, creamy potatoes (not mashed) and eggplant, Thur dish surely stole my heart! Half of it was already filling! My two friends each had the Halibut which they say was delicious. Their dolmathes was so soft and fresh, unlike the stiff ones I’ve had in other restaurants I’ve been to. Even my friend, who hates dolmades, gave it a try and it won her over. Their spanakotiropita was light with the perfect flakiness. We were so happy with our meals that we had to try their desserts. One had their dessert special (wrapped fried custard with ice cream), the other had the Sokolatina (dark chocolate cake) and I had the Kataifi Ekmek (Shredded filo with semolina custard, creme fraiche & pistachio). My dessert was sooo delectable, I didn’t want to share (but I did)! I wanted to savor every bite! Definitely getting this dessert again! The vibe here was on the loud side but the decor is comfortable. I say “comfy” because the lighting was dim but spotlighted the food. It was perfect plating!
