Humboldt Farm Fish Wine Ratings and Reviews
It's very difficult to get a reservation at a decent time in Denver, so I was glad to find a 7:15 slot at HFFW. We started with the calamari and the brussel sprouts. Both were very good. My friend and I had the scallop special which was fab. My friend's husband had the sea bass with that came with brussel sprouts even though he doesn't like them, lol. My husband had the whole crispy fish that was indeed WHOLE...with his mouth wide open! None of us had ever seen anything like it before, but it was fun. We all agreed we'd return. My 2 complaints were that while our server was very nice, the service was slow. It was also very loud making conversation a bit difficult.
Food was really good, service was not so good. Our waitress, Claire, had a really bad attitude. She didn’t really serve us anything ( the manager served us our food and wine). The food came out in time but it did take an extremely long time to get our drinks.
Will be back for the food, hopefully the service will be better.
The credit card machine was down and we couldn’t pay using a credit card. We had to scrounge cash together as a family to pay for our meal. Very bad look while having my parents in town. We had to tip in cash ( which was already limited) and Claire was so offended that she gave it back to us.
Brunch was phenomenal...in addition to the regular brunch menu the chef had prepared additional brunch offerings including shrimp and grits. Too many place in Denver are short on choices...not HUMBOLD! Everything was delicious.
I am not a vegetarian but if you are the vegetarian hash I had was my favorite!
We loved the service and the food!
Very crowded but that did not interfere with food and service. Ate in busy bar and bartender/server was outstanding as she handled every situation seamlessly and with a smile. Have been coming to Humboldt for a long time and it continues to surprise. We'll be back
Met with family from out of town. We had a delightful evening! Our waitress was so nice , attentive, and made good suggestions for wine and cocktails. Every single one of us loved our food. The mussels as a first course were amazing. The space is beautiful and we were able to catch up and laugh around the round table for six! I love that for being able to talk with everyone. We will be back and will recommend to all our friends.
My husband, daughter and I went for dinner on our last night in Denver before heading back Florida. Food was wonderful, service was oh so slow. We were there at 4:45 on a Wednesday and they had a pretty decent amount of tables full but there wasn’t any reason for the amount of time it took for us to flag down enough servers to get the things we needed to eat our meal and to get our bill so we could pay. Hopefully the service will be better next time.
All of our first time and we will be back. First our waiter was perfectly attentive, helpful and engaging. Most importantly the food was outstanding. Our appetizers (muscles, calamari, Brussels sprouts) were delicious; the salads were perfect and the entrees were top notch. I, and another, had the lamb special - exquisite. Another had the whole fish special, beautifully done. The short ribs from the regular menu were great. We were all too full to try dessert. And, what a deal we stumbled upon, on Monday's wine bottles are 40% off! A good wine list with a nice selection at a wide choice of price points. Nice setting, great service, wonderful food and quite reasonable prices.
My family celebrated the end of my cancer treatment in a lovely dinner here. The staff of the restaurant, learning our occasion, were amazing- and I can't thank them enough. They treated us to a lovely bottle of Prosecco in my honor and made me feel like Queen for a Day. Our dinners were great and we had a lovely evening. Their oysters are always a treat, my husband and I both had yummy scallops, my daughter's seafood and steak dinner looked very good, as did my son's burger. The evening could not have been nicer.
When the food was brought out, my wife had no cutlery. We tried to get the attention of any wait staff for several minutes. Finally, my wife got up and grabbed some from the wait station. I pointed this out to our waiter and told him that because of this, we were eating cold food. He made no attempt to apologize, and made a remark that the flavor of the food is the most important thing. I said this with kindness and patience. I asked him to discuss this with the manager, because other staff were constantly running through the area, and paying no attention. He obviously did not do this, but he took about $10 off of our tab. That wasn’t the teachable moment I was trying to instill.
Oh, and my fish was cooked until it was almost completely dry.
We don’t plan to return. There are so many good choices available.
This was our second time here, and the second time was not nearly as good as the first. I had short ribs with polenta and beets, and those with me had clams and the crispy fish. They were all fine. The sausage that came with the clams was cold though, and my wife didn't eat it.
We had a very nice server who seemed like he was trying a bit too hard. Every time he came by to "check on us" he disturbed the conversation. Maybe I'm used to European service, but I prefer when the waiter simply keeps an eye on the table to pay attention when water and drinks need to be refilled, and then they just come by and do it. No need to ask permission.
So yeah, it was fine. I'm not rushing to go back.
This was my second visit and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time! The calamari was as good as I had in Palau, and the scallops were amazing! My only complaint was that the risotto had a bit too much salt added, and had enough oil in it that I was overfull and couldn't have any dessert! But I'll come back for that dessert!
I've visited Humboldt a few times now and have had lovely experiences each time. Ben the bartender is so friendly and knowledgeable, he really makes your meal an experience, not just "eating out." On my most recent visit Claire took care of us and she provided perfect service. She gave great recommendations and knew a lot about the menu, in addition to being so unbelievably sweet! The food has always been spectacular. The beet salad is delicious! I can't wait to come back.
We have enjoyed frequenting Humboldt over the last few years thanks to their exceptional service and delicious fare. Our most recent visit added yet another enjoyable experience to the list. Initially, I was sad to see the scallops were no longer on the menu, but was delighted to find they are included in the specials and the risotto recipe has changed to include more vegetables. My husband selected the surf and turf option, which was also amazing, but we both concluded that I "won" with the scallops. It was a chilly evening, so we were looking forward to the warm ambiance. However, on this occasion, it seems the air conditioning was on and we looked around to find many of our fellow diners wrapped in their coats. Even so, everything else was top-notch and we even splurged on dessert because the key lime pie is just too good to pass up! Thank you for a fun date night, Team Humboldt!
I have enjoyed every lunch and dinner that I've had at Humboldt. The food never disappoints. The service is always good, attentive but not intrusive. I've been able to get in and out in time to go to a performance but I have also lingered for a leisurely meal. The only downside is the high noise level. I may try the atrium area.
