Diners' Choice Winners: Best Overall
Monterey / Carmel's best restaurants based upon thousands of OpenTable diner reviews
My review is from the perspective of a non-foodie. I did not choose this restaurant by accident....I expected an extraordinary dining experience, and wife and I were not disappointed. Not our first tasting menu experience, but by far our best. We were made to feel welcome and pampered at every turn. The wait staff nearly outnumbered the guests. It was not a stuffy experience....the staff smiled, and at appropriate times were even funny. Every course was presented with a brief paragraph, describing the ingredients and method of preparation. All our questions were answered without condescension. It was simply art....culinary art and performance art, dining so elevated. The night we were there, a cheese course was offered, and I’m glad we accepted. We will likely never experience a night like this again. MoreOpenTable Diner -

For decades, this area of California has been known for the quality of its locally grown produce and fresh seafood taken directly from the Pacific Ocean. This may be why many of the most important up-and-coming chefs in the United States are working in the Central Coast region of California. When you combine that type of talent with the quality of the local ingredients, you cannot help but create a vibrant, exciting food culture. The area is filled with unique restaurants, including some overlooking the gorgeous, golden coastline. Quite a few of the establishments also work directly with local farms and fishers, ensuring the freshness and quality of their ingredients from farm to table. Along the interior hillsides, one will find beautiful vineyards producing deliciously complex wines.
