"This was our second visit to Villa Sombreros. This visit was our first for dinner. It was very noisy in the restaurant, I could not hear the waiter unless he spoke up. Maybe some fabric panels on the wall or ceiling would help. As people left it got better. We love the artwork on the walls and the decor! The woman hand making the tortillas so we can watch is a fun touch! The waiters go to her to plate them for their tables!
This chips are standard for a good Latin/Mexican restaurant. The salsa is very tasty 😋
It looked as if they were short-staffed that night. Our waiter did an excellent job for appearing to have the responsibility of every table in the restaurant. It looked as though there was only one other person to clear tables and fill drinks...plus a bartender. I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times. I think the rule in Carmel to have to ask for a glass of water before you can have any is short-sighted, especially in a walking environment like Carmel, and especially on warm days! Small glasses are acceptable!
The food was wonderful. It’s a little greasy - but the flavors are very tasty and the presentation is very nice. We had the “Hector’s Toothpicks” for an appetizer- there are 4 good sized flour tortillas - for us it was practically a meal for two. Very tasty! For our main meal we both had Chicken and Rajas Tostadas. Also very tasty but a bit on the greasy side. I think I would rather it taste more of fresh crunchy veggies than what I got.
Our first visit was for lunch. I had the Guadalajara Tacos which were delicious! I don’t remember what my husband had. That day was slower and the service was excellent, the wait staff was very friendly, and we loved the food.
We are locals here and we like Villa Sombreros very much. It is one of four Mexican-style restaurants in Carmel/Pacific Grove that we will return to for a casual night out to satisfy our craving for authentic and tasty Mexican/Latin American food!"See more
"We had a delicious dinner at Affina. They had a child's menu and that was great since our eight year old granddaughter would not have been able to eat a large portion of food. The many appetizers were delicious, including bacon-wrapped chicken and great soup. The tagliarini bolognese was also excellent."See more
"Had a lovely evening out on the heated patio with our pooch, which meant that we met some great guys sitting with their Pooch too.
Our server could not have been more welcoming and fun and interested in both us an our dog and of course that we were enjoying our food and her suggestions.
Loved our evening, food and wine both up to expectations. One of our 'regular' spots in Carmel."See more
"Nice, casual seafood restaurant. For a quieter experience ask to be seated in the room without the bar. Highly recommend the cioppino (although it's a huge amount, so could be shared), and the paella. Wine list includes half bottles."See more
"My sisters and I visited Etats Unis on a rainy Saturday evening and had no trouble securing a table. We each had French onion soup, and split the duck pate, caprese salad and crepes Suzette. The food was fantastic and the soup was particularly good (not a ton of cheese, really thinly sliced carmelized onions, rich broth). Douglas, our server, was kind, knowledgeable and attentive. He recommended wines based on what we described as our preferences and allowed us to taste a selection before ordering. There are a few restaurants in Carmel that come up in a search of French restaurants in the area, but this one is quite authentic. It is in a darling cottage, small dining room, not too fancy, corner fireplace -- all in all, charming!"See more
