Carlos@b&v brings the finer side of dining and service to this unique little part of North London, on the Green in Winchmore Hill, a stone's throw from the mainline station of the same name and a short drive from Southgate on the end of the Piccadiily Line. Carlos himself is a restauranteur with flair, having built a reputation in the area over 30 years and so his experience with executing a dynamic and slick establishment brings much to be excited about. Guests will get that familiar 'welcome back' feeling even if they happen to be newcomers. The interiors are comfortably chic but inviting, with a warm ambience and the atmosphere is busy and vibrant. Live music and niche little magic entertainers are a regular occurrence. With an open alfresco feel in the summer, looking out on to the Green itself and a pavement terrace in warmer months too. My previous visit to St John was a bit of a disappointment ( we ate in the bar and the service was very poor) , so I was a bit skeptical about how things would be in the dining room… I’m pleased to say that everything from start to find was fabulous. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and the food, delicious . We both chose the pollock with puttanesca sauce, crispy potatoes and a green salad followed by sticky toffee pudding and accompanied by a bottle of Chardonnay which was certainly not an average oaky wine! So pleased St J is now back on my radar and I look forward to enjoying dinner there again soon.
