- RROBERTVIPSeattle / Eastern Washington •25 reviews5.0Dined 5 days agoLet me start by giving Mahina and Suns 5 WOWs. That is 1 WOW for each item l ordered: Mango #5 (a complex handcrafted cocktail mixed up by bartender Jules); warm banana bread (get it before 5:30 pm); chickpea fritters (l almost placed a second order); Off the Hook (a signature dish that featured meaty wahoo - aka ono - atop Hawaiian potato puree, with asparagus and edible flowers); and banana pudding (classic comfort food topped with chocolate cookie crumbs). I was blown away by the innovation, flavors, and presentation of each dish. But another (and biggest) WOW goes to server Tressa, who was one of the most welcoming, personable, knowledgeable and caring servers l've ever met. Kudos to her professionalism and recommendations. Her personal and attentive service made the evening extra-special and unforgettable. And a bonus WOW to local singer John Akapo, who performs Wednesday evenings on the elevated area at the end of the pool (Mahina and Suns has dinner seating by the pool or elevated adjacent to and above). I came back from last year's visit just to see John, whose smooth vocal stylings embody the beauty of Hawai. Do not miss this gifted singer. Each of the evening's components - amazing cuisine, incredible service, relaxed setting, or evening entertainment - could individually be enough to recommend Mahina and Suns for dinner. But, put them all together and this is my do not miss (especially with John on Wednesdays) recommendation in Waikiki.More infoMahina and Sun's - Surfjack HotelPrice: Expensive• Home cooking• Waikiki•4.7
