Sunday brunch was decent . . . very busy and hard to get the attention of our server. Food was good, not amazing. Fresh shrimp, good cheese selections, decent cinnamon rolls. We ordered eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was pretty congealed and the eggs were overcooked. We enjoyed our time, but not really worth the price.
Great food, excellent service and really enjoyed the live music.
It was a great time. We were seated a little before our reservation. The waiter was right there and explained everything. Waited until we were back at the table to bring our coffee so it would be hot. Cleared plates right away so we could start again. Food was amazing and was replenished often.
It's a beautiful restaurant and a wonderful place for a special brunch. It's pricey for brunch but certainly all great food and great service.
Service is excellent. Very relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely recommend trying it out if you have never been.
Restaurant was early empty at 1:00 on a Friday afternoon. Food was tasty and presentation lovely. Unfortunately, it was quite a struggle to redeem the Open Table Dining Reward, and not until hours later did we realize we'd also been overcharged but hadn't the stamina to do anything about it. The old-timey elegance was nice as a novelty, but for the price we're likely to try some place more lively another time.
I’ve been going off and on for several years now but really think I’ll try to find something else at this point for the price. The food needs updating. It’s an old fashioned menu that is overall heavy and the desserts are too rich. Kids don’t have healthy options such as separately made veggies like beans and glazed/buttered carrots. The brunch items could use more creativity. Desserts like nice fluffy torts would be a welcome addition. The food offered at this point can be found at most any relatively decent restaurant. The music is great though!
My wife and I were excited to have our annual New Years Sunday brunch at Ellyngton's yesterday. We were extremely disappointed. I am not sure if there was a change in management but the experience was at best sub par.
Two hostesses greeted us, one dressed nicely (as would be expected at the Brown) and the other in sweats (ok this might be overly picky).
There were no smoked salmon or bagels, but plenty of cream cheese. They ran out of oysters at 11:00. The carving station only served Colorado Beef - No turkey, ham of lamb. The sushi, so limited and average why even bother! The deserts were great.
The service was average at best.
Ordinarily I would not write such a scathing review, but at $70/person not including champagne, I expect more that an omelet and bacon and sausage.
Other options next year, The Inverness Hotel, YaYas or Pappadeaux.
I gave the Sunday brunch for 2, to my daughter and son-in-law for a Christmas gift.
They loved it ! I will make this a tradition for their gift next year.
New Years family brunch
Our group stayed overnight at the hotel and chose to meet up for breakfast at the hotel to keep it simple (no taxis necessary). Reservations for 9am and we were there until 10:30. For breakfast. No one ordered anything out of the ordinary, but apparently two of our orders were wrong before they even came out and had to be remade. Server must have been busy because we hardly saw him. We saw the woman who refills water more often (but don’t ask her for coffee...). One of us specifically ordered his eggs “not runny” but that’s exactly what he got.
We had a great experience at the Ship Tavern the previous night, but only Ellyngton’s is open for breakfast. Wasn’t great, but maybe it was a bad morning. For $18/entree, I’m not sure we’d come back for their runny eggs. We would have asked the server or a manager for assistance but we never saw a manager and hardly saw our server.
We ate here because we received breakfast vouchers for being Marriott Platinum Premier Elite members. The food was subpar. French toast was soggy and undercooked. Eggs Benedict were bland and came out cold. Service was slow. Best part was the ambiance with the Christmas decor. I would’ve been upset if we had to pay... the food was overpriced and seemed comparable in quality to what you’d get from Perkins.
The good was decent nothing exceptional. We were seated in the corner so I couldn’t see the rest of the restaurant. I would say a great for a casual lunch.
Were unprepared for Christmas Day. Was told there was open seating upstairs-untrue. Arrived at 1:45 for a 2:00 reservation and was told it would be 20 minutes. Just after 2 was told it would be 45 minutes. Ended up finding another table on Open Table and went somewhere else.
The management was great about accomodating us for Christmas after a website glitch.
The food was cold, the buffet eggs were watery, the French toast must have been from 8am because by 1 they were hard as rocks and not edible. The potatoes were not cooked all the way. The price of the food was not worth it at all. But on a lighter note the service was great.
I’ve been going there for brunch for 18 years. It’s really gone down hill. The service was poor. The man making the omelettes was down right rude. The ambiance is not what it used to be since the new owners took over. They now have banquet chairs instead of the nice wooden one with arms and the pretty upholstery. You have to go past the “tea area” in the lobby to get to the restaurant which is usually beautifully decorated for the holidays. But this year they had a banquet table in the aisle which made it difficult to get to the restaurant. I’m very disappointed. I doubt that I’ll return considering the price point and current atmosphere. I didn’t mind the price in the past because of the service and ambiance. But it’s no longer worth it in my opinion.☹️
I made our reservations far in advance for our 5 year anniversary and when we arrived a few minutes early before our 11:30am spot, we were told that a table was available (as opposed to reserved) and we were sat at the absolute worst table possible, in the very middle of the restaurant directly in front of the band. When I asked Sarah the hostess for another table she very impolitely stated that I could come back at 12 to see if they had anything else. I saw that there were 2 tops where guests had just finished & I thought she would at least apologize and request the bussing staff to clean a quieter table as quickly as possible to accomodate us. I should have asked her for that since she did not offer, but I was so taken aback by her attitude, I just went back to our terrible table.
I really wasn't expecting anything special done for us for our anniversary, but when I make a reservation, especially at a location as nice as the Brown Palace, I do not expect to be seated at the worst table and I certainly expected better customer service.
A major disappointment, to the point that one must consider The Brown Palace to no longer be a top destination for brunch. While the seafood selection of clams, oysters, and shrimp was nice, the tuna nigiri was marginal, and other selections were below average. The cheese blintzes, for example, we're soggy and didn't have any depth of flavor. The potatoes were over done to the point of being a dark brown (and tasted overcooked), and the prime rib was average, and not distinguishable from Golden Coral.
To make it worse, the service was abysmal. We waited 10 minutes after being seated by a clearly disinterested hostess, and nary a server was to be found. I was finally able to get the attention of a waiter, who promised to send someone over. Two individuals then had an argument over who had responsibility for our table. Finally one of them graciously decided we could receive their attention. The lines for the food we're extremely slow due to triangle layout that blocked all progress to any items because of the egg station. The layout needs serious rework. While we were eating, a different waiter bumped into the table, spilling all of the drinks. He apologized for bumping to us (accidents happen), but failed to help clean the table, or refresh the drinks. Coffee, for example, was undrinkable because the saucers we're flooded with the spilt beverages and would.have left a trail of drippings we're one to have lifted the cup. It took a long time to finally flag our waiter to get replacements. The lack of follow through after an incident simply demonstrates the lack of attention.to detail that distinguishes good service.
In short, the food is not exceptional, the wait times in the lines simply inexcusable and could be resolved were the management even slightly involved in analyzing the flow, and the service below that of what one could find on any dive dinner in the country.
The band was good, however.
Romantic breakfast with husband before the Christmas chaos. Really enjoyed the setting and the more formal atmosphere. I had the bakery basket, which had some amazing buttery rolls and muffins. Coffee was wonderful. They let us linger and catch up without a rush to the door. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Not great food. Not great experience. So many other places to go.
I took my 9 year old granddaughter there for breakfast before taking her to see the Nutcracker. She had been there for tea, but loved the breakfast too. We saw the Christmas decorated chandelier which was beautiful! A great breakfast, glamorous entry, and terrific way to start our grandma/granddaughter day!
Our family makes Sunday Brunch at the Brown Palace a Christmas tradition every year. Wouldn't miss it! Love the food. Love the setting. Love the jazz trio.
My husband and I began, a few years ago, the tradition of a nice holiday brunch, just the two of us. This year brought us to Ellyngton's at the Brown Palace Hotel. We'd both been to the Brown before, both to the other restaurant, me for holiday tea, and both to stay, so we knew it would be great. And, it was. Brunch buffets can be difficult in terms of maintaining food quality, but Ellyngton's does it perfectly. Everything was delicious, the service was terrific, and the live music was so nice. We were early, and they were able to seat us right away, which was also really nice. The entire experience, from valet parking to the hotel decorations, was spectacular!
Great variety- all food fresh and tasty.
This was a luxury and was well worth it! Memorable!

Anton did a great job. We love visiting the Brown Palace during the holidays to celebrate our family Christmas! It is our family tradition!
I went with a friend who shares a December birthday. The Sunday brunch was fantastic. And so was the champagne. I will say that I went for brunch two years ago, and it seems the food was pretty much the same. My only complaint, if you'd call it that, is that keep some of the staple food items but vary some as well. But overall, a great experience!
We love Ellington's Sunday brunch! Wonderful selection of food and the dessert bar... well it's dangerous!!
We had horrible service. We waited for at least 30 minutes before our food was delivered. And it was cold. I had to ask for a to-go box four times - from both our server and the manager. Our server was distant and hardly checked in with us. I really enjoy having business meetings here; however, the lack of good service was embarrassing for me as the host of this meeting.

The food was great, ambience is lovely, particularly near the holidays. We went for Sunday brunch, my main reason for reducing a star was it was too loud.....the jazzy holiday music was well done, just too loud. We had to raise our voices to be heard and our party were not able to hear what the server was saying.
Beautiful experience! Our waiter, Keith, was friendly, fun & knowledgeable. Food was incredible, excellent quality, well-seasoned, beautifully prepared. Our first time but we'll be going back for sure.
At 7:45AM, the buffet is pretty basic. Do the brunch for a larger offering. It's good, not great.
We booked the Santa breakfast brunch and had a great time, the restaurant was decorated beautifully, the kids loved seeing Santa and Mrs Claus...however, the actual food was really disappointing. The buffet lacked options, the options that were available were not what you would expect at a $40 per person brunch. We’ve been to plenty of hotel brunches at much lower scale restaurants and had a bigger selection. We had a great time, but i wouldn’t spend the money on the brunch as it’s just not worth it.
Great atmosphere but food and service are average or below. Santa and Mrs. Claus, cookie decorating, elves and THE PIANO MAN are fabulous.
Truly this was the epitome of mediocrity. Nothing was really good, but not bad enough to say i hated it. We were willing to pay hotel prices to have a quiet brunch with some friends who came in from out of town and have the ability to graciously talk and catch up. The good point was that worked. Beyond that the food was meh, the service sketchy, and all overpriced. This felt like a place that was past its prime or stretching to be more than it is.
