Menu is limited on food options but the wine menu goes on and on and on and is extensive enough to rival Bern’s. As for the food, we were not thrilled. My meal (lump crab & pasta with white wine sauce) was just okay. Kind of bland. Definitely not worth $39.95. I ate half of my meal that looked and tasted like a cheap chicken cacciatore. Smoked salmon appetizer was very good but the chocolate mousse was nothing special.
Waiter was pleasant and did his job but was swamped running from table to table. Hectic place.
Also, despite what you may read online this place is not at all romantic. It’s loud and packed with people. The waiting area was also packed, no social distancing at all.
Overall, I cannot recommend Donatello. I can think of at least 3 Italian restaurants in the Tampa bay area that blow this place away, 2 of which are a fraction of the price. This place proves that a higher price does not always mean better.
Great place. Service and food were on point. Small little interior and exterior details are needed (menus, glassware, front sign)but overall highly rated
Food was excellent but service was sub par. Surprised as past service was as would be expected at a place in this price range. - but not this time.
Felt like I was a kid at the time out table - unless you’re a regular here i guess you can’t count on 5 star service
Classic decor with excellent food. Only drawback is the fake Italian accents of the waiters. It is not necessary
Was a nice and quiet atmosphere. My date and I ordered the Fritto Misto and I’d say it was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the $30 price tag.
Everything ; apps, salads, entrees and desert; were delicious! Will def be back!
Loved the whole atmosphere more like old school. The food was really good as well. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic old world authentic Italian food....5 star service
It was my first time and the experience and food was fantastic. Loved the food, wine and my friend and I had a marvelous experience.
In the time of Covid I was so pleased they split the appetizers we ordered up on separate plates. They have always done this, but this is especially important now. As per usual, the food is great. The servers are very professional and do a lot of the food preparation table side.
This place never ever lets me down. Consistently the best Italian food ever in my life. They treat you like you should be treated and go out of there way to accommodate and make you dining experience excellent like it should be. Love this old school restaurant
The food was absolutely incredible. Some of the best food I’ve ever had in the st Pete/Tampa area. It was a bit pricey but well worth it since everything we ate was top notch!
The host Guido was very polite. The food was good but a la carte and prices were high which was expected however I didn’t think the food was great for the price compared to other high end Italian restaurants in the area. The service was OK, i think i had my water refilled once during my hour and a half stay. Great place to go once but i wont be returning.
One of the best overall dining experience my wife and I have ever had.
We had a very pleasant evening, excellent food and impeccable service.
Classic Italian restaurant atmosphere, I was taken back to a simpler time when enjoying life was the most important thing. Donatello was amazing food and service were impeccable and the attention to detail by the wait staff was superb. Highly recommend Donatello and will be returning on my next trip to Tampa.
Food was delicious as always. Bonus was the Stanley Cup during dinner!!!
My girlfriend and I tried this restaurant for the first time for a night out. We absolutely loved it and the atmosphere. Definitely going back and the waiters gave the perfect amount of attention.
Best Italian food in Tampa! Service, ambience is true to the theme.
A nice little gem with great history in Tampa! My wife and I both loved our meals and the ambiance of the restaurant.
Always a wonderful experience
Was vacationing! Food was great, service was wonderful and food came quick and tasty
I've been to a lot of Italian restaurants during the years, Donatello was by far the best I've ever experienced. My wife and I are from Atlanta and decided to go to Tampa to celebrate our forty eighth anniversary by going to the best steak house, the best seafood restaurant and the best Italian restaurant in town. We are so glad we saved Donatello for last. When you walk into the door, until you leave, you will experience first class black tie service. We had a very knowledgeable and helpful waiter who told us he had been there for 35 years. His recommendations and friendly service were point on. We would highly recommend the veal dishes and their pasta is also made in house. After a delightful experience at dinner, we went to the lounge for an after dinner drink. The service was efficient and friendly and they had a great combo playing. When you're in town don't miss going to Donatello for a wonderful evening.
Always the best food in town, as well as terrific service.
Very beautiful location, romantic atmosphere.
My husband and I enjoyed the food, however it was waaaay overpriced. To be fair though, we lived in Italy for 3 years and got accustomed to eating great food at great prices.
Always have a wonderful experience here. Despite being busy service is excellent.
Gino and his staff provide exceptional service all the time.
Well I’d love to write a good review for this establishment but I am not able . The reviews I read we all positive so my husband and I decided to try it. We look forward to our weekend outings to dinner , we work hard during the week so this is our time to enjoy each other with fantastic food . We were greeted right away and sat in a corner . Al me the tables had fresh roses and the ambiance seemed romantic yet inviting with all the waiters speaking mostly Italian to one another . While we had five people waiting us , not one of them presented themselves as our waiter so we really weren’t sure who to order from . They grabbed our wine order and then it seemed as if they forgot about us . After twenty five minutes someone came to check on us so we quickly ordered an appetizer. We had the breaded oysters which were tasty . After waiting another half hour we finally flagged down someone to take our order . Food came out hot but was not the amazing food we had heard about (we got scampi and tortellini) . As we had time to look around we noticed Only the staff wearing masks but no one up and walking to the bathrooms were. We witnessed a waiter present two dessert cakes to a table and place them in front of the customers for them to look at , then take them away and retrieve their pieces of dessert . I would think with all the COVID precautions to follow this would be a huge no no . Overall we were not impressed . So sad because we had such great expectations .
Donatello is one of my favorite restaurants in Tampa, but this time unfortunately, it did not deliver. The tables seemed closer than 6 feet apart, maybe 4 feet which would probably not bother me if it wasn’t a 3 hour dinner. The service was very, very slow which leaves you sitting in a packed restaurant for 3 hours with no mask. Additionally, there was a large party in their back room and those folks kept walking in and out without masks. Food is fantastic, but definitely one of the riskier dining out options I’ve experienced during COVID.
Absolutely the best Italian food.! Great place great people.
We arrived ten minutes before our reservation. Valet parking was the only option as the lot was full. There was no room at the bar to wait. Gino was wonderful as always. While waiting in front of the host stand for our table we noticed several things. First people came in not wearing masks and stood less than a foot away from us. These four people didn’t wear masks. One person was wearing a tank top, shorts, and flip flops. He repeatedly lifted his arm and scratched his arm pit hair. The other man in this foursome had a hat on backwards. One of the women was wearing a linen short outfit that was really wrinkled. The other woman wore a dress so short it barely covered her butt cheeks. They didn’t have a reservation. I thought Gino would mention they were dressed inappropriately for a Saturday dinner. Nope. They were seated right by our table. They were loud and cussed incessantly. We were celebrating our anniversary. Our food was excellent. The fact they refused to wear masks was inappropriate. Our service was excellent. Gino was charming. This was our second date night to Donatello’s this month. Our bill was over $200 and we always tip 30%. The loud rude party who refused to wear masks should not have been seated. Their loud cussing and refusal to wear masks marred what should have been an excellent evening.
Donatello's is a well deserved Tampa favorite! My experience, as always, was an evening to be remembered, from the beautiful ambiance, to the impeccable service, to the gorgeous food! This is my favorite restaurant for a date or a special occasion. I'll be back!!
Great food - great atmosphere. Had the Tournados Rossini - fantastic.
Went for a special occasion and did nothing but disappoint.
My wife and I were celebrating her birthday. The food was excellent and the service was even better. I'm sure we will go back.
My wife is a lifelong Tampan and told me this was a must visit. We took her mother there for her 89th(!) birthday. The atmosphere, the food, the service, and the music by Kitty and Majid were all perfect! Thanks to the whole gang for making my MIL's birthday so special!
Always enjoy when we dine here. With Covid it has been over a year. Food and service are always great and again this time did not disappoint. Tables were spaced out, Waiters wore masks entire time. Felt very comfortable dining given the social distancing requirements. The restaurant is taking it seriously which is nice to see. If you have not been to Donatello's you need to put it high on your list.
