Columbia Restaurant - Ybor City Ratings and Reviews
We had heard this was a fantastic restaurant, but our experience was not good. There were 4 in our party and the waitress made an error in placing my order so my dinner wasn't received with the other 3 entrees. I was told it would be 15 minutes before they could get it out to me. The others in my party offered a portion of their meals to me, so I declined to wait for my re-ordered entree. Of the 3 dinners we received, only one was what we considered to be worth the money. We were disappointed with the rest. The sangrias and deserts were good though, and the manager did comp one of the deserts. However, I doubt we'll ever go back.
The Columbia Restaurant offers an exceptional menu with service that is near extent in this era. Having dined at every Columbia Restaurant I would surely give the highest recommendation to the original located in Ybor City. The 1905 salad is a wonderful and bold salad that is a must for every visit.
This restaurant was recommended by a colleague as a place we should visit while in Tampa. I think if you have never been to a Spanish restaurant, it would make for an interesting experience. However, the food itself was mediocre, especially given the prices. Also, if you have never seen flamenco, you may enjoy the show. However, having seen a fair amount of flamenco performances in Santa Fe, we were somewhat disspointed by the dances being done to music piped in over speakers for the majority of it. Only the last part of the show had the interplay between musicians and dancers that is integral to the art form, and unfortunately the performance ended just as things were getting interesting.
Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant is good, but be warned that it is freezing in there. We may have just been under a vent, but we all were cold the entire time we were there, and we had sweaters.
To end on a positive note, the sangria was excellent!
Food was great, the service adequate. It would've been a more enjoyable experience for a date if my girlfriend and I weren't seated between three different tables with crying kids. We thought about asking about being moved to a quiet corner but were hesitant to do so. I didn't specify in my online reservation that we would prefer a quiet, cozy table. It is clear that the building is old and the acoustics are not ideal. No harm, no foul. If a couple checks in for a reservation it may be a good idea to ask if they would prefer a quiet corner table (especially if it is obvious they are on a date). Just a suggestion. I've worked in fine dining for many years and understand that it is the little things like a quick question at the door can go a long way to enhance the guest's experience.
Overall a pleasant experience. We look forward to coming back.
Had reservations for a special birthday. Waiter was preoccupied and obviously too busy. Forgot to bring the drinks we ordered, had to ask twice and we could see them sitting on the bar melting, never asked if we wanted or needed anything during the entire meal. Food was cold. Chicken was dry. Never even mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. Forgot he already rang our check out and did it again. Sorry, but this certainly was not how we wanted to celebrate a 71st Birthday.

The two of us were seated in the bar area.
the noise level was very high and we left as soon as possible because we could not hear each other. I went early but the crowd still poured in.. Not a place to be able to enjoy conversation at.. I was in middle room and it w as worse than the side room.. Hope can do something. First of all you have people packed in their like pancakes. Not very good atmosphere.
