Columbia Restaurant - Ybor City Ratings and Reviews
We had a great time! Our waitress was amazing!! She overheard me talking about my love for key lime pie and gave me a piece! So sweet! We are from Iowa and do not get good key lime pie so this was such a thoughtful and generous gesture!!! We will come back to Columbia EVERY TIME we come to Tampa.
A must for anyone visiting Tampa/Ybor City as its a cultural landmark. The menu is classic and the kitchen does not disappoint, however one gets the feeling that emphasis by staff and restaurant is get them in and get them out. Columbia needs to slow down on turning over the tables and remember it's the customers that make or break them. Would I recommend? Yes for a first time visit? Go again on my own? Doubtful! P.S. I've been periodically dining at Columbia with visiting friends and family at Columbia since 1982, food reminds classic but the family vibe is an echo of what was.
I have visited the St. Armand’s location numerous times and love it! Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the Ybor location. The food was fantastic as always but our service was extremely poor. I have no doubt our server is great at what he does however, he was definitely overwhelmed. I work in the industry and I know these things happen. He should of asked for help or simply apologized and thanked us for our patience. This will not detour us from visiting, we will be back for the food!
Been coming to the Columbia for years to celebrate birthdays, graduations, etc. Great Spanish food, I like that it has a lot of Tampa history. Absolutely excellent service. Food is served quite quickly for how busy they usually are. Generous portions, usually enough to bring some home. Great key lime pie!
I had not been to the Columbia in 18 years but I took my wife for our 25th anniversary. We had reservations and were seated near the main entrance of the restaurant next to a large and very loud party. We sat next to each other but could not hardly hear ourselves. The decor was the best part of the experience but it went down sharply from there. We had 3 drinks total and the price was more than what the waitress said it would be. Plus the drinks were small compared to most places and weak. We both had chicken dinners and my wife's was suppose to have been baked. Came out pan fried. I asked about the vegitables and was told snap peas and things. No problem but the" things" were items I do not eat like mushrooms. I would have asked for a substitute if I had known. The food overall was ok at best and no better than many local Cuban restaurants that are much cheaper. In the end, our check was nearly $90.00 out the door. We paid for the "name" more so than anything else. I wanted a romantic evening, went early before 5:30 to avoid the rush, but left disppointed. You only have 1 silver anniversary and it did not turn out as I had hoped it would.
The restaurant is famous and well known and has a good reputation, however, we had some issues with the food. The entrees arrived before the soup so we sent them back and had them bring the soup. They put the entrees under the warming light so they were cold. The waitress brought them back to the kitchen where they were reheated and then over cooked. Finally the manager came and had the food recooked and took the cost of the meals off our bill. He did not have to do that, however, it shows that they really care about customer satisfaction.
Overpriced and Overrated - Service almost non-existent, food terrible for the price and reputation. Bread dropped off with no butter or oil. Didn't see Carlos (waiter) until we were able to wave him down when bread was no longer warm. Runner dropped off food. $36 for a steak that was supposed to be medium rare served with vegetables and yellow rice - steak showed up well done and chewy with no vegetables or rice just a couple of cold salty potato slices. Waiter did not come and never checked on how the meal was to have it corrected. Gave up and ate it as my companion finished their meal which I insisted they start while it was warm. Still did not see waiter again until 25 minutes after I finished eating. Wish they would have left a water jug with the small glasses if the server didn't have time to come back. Only quick service was to pick up the check at the end of the night. Enjoyed other Columbia locations. Will never return to or recommend this "flagship" location. We were really looking forward to our anniversary dinner here. We would have liked to say it was a good memory.
