Ultra Dry-Aged Porterhouse Steak
Pistachio And Avocado Bruschetta
Alberta Beef Tenderloin Steak
Amazing waiter and management, even better food. 👌🏼
Great Place..Great Vibe..Our server Brett was awesome. The food was awesome as well..
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t have the usual good experience. The food expedite way too quickly especially when this includes sizeable plates and a porterhouse that takes usually time to be prepped.
We understand that the current environment is tough and will give it another chance to enjoy this great venue.
Great service, nice people and atmosphere, menu is rather sophisticated, so definitely a place for dates and special occasions to celebrate.
Food quality is fantastic!
Wish steakhouse would be part of rooftop as well
We went for the porterhouse steak - it did not disappoint! At medium well, it was soft and the meat smells really good, esp with a bit of burnt edges. The wedge salad and the fried brussel sprouts were so good too, and of course the avocado bruschetta is as always amazing! Though the food took a little longer, service is good - just a full house probably why. And our table was ready when we arrived, so all in all a very good experience.
great meal and ambiance but a wedding reception took place at the same time as our meal and the speeches were broadcast throughout the restaurant
I hate to rate such a restaurant low. But OUCH. We arrived at 815pm. We were met with a warm welcome and our drinks and appetizers made it to our table FAST. But that’s where it went down hill… I chose an outdoor seat given the pandemic and my comfort levels… was not Informed or given an option of another seat… strike one…. But I’ll forgive it. At 845pm. We were told the Wedding upstairs was having some Irish dancers who would start promptly at 9 PM. We were told it would last 10 minutes… no more. This seemed quite the aggressive inconvenience for paying customers in such a public space. But I thought I could forgive it.
And then I went to the washroom. I needed a code as a paying customer and upon arriving to the washroom using the code I needed I was met with eight young Irish dancers from the wedding two stories above who are not wearing masks and who were using every single sink. I was put in a position of not being able to wash my hands because every sink was covered in make up and someone not wearing a mask and I was left feeling uncomfortable.
Beyond all of this our food took forever and ultimately… none of it was worth it.
Incredible disappointment considering the circumstances.
Excellent recommendations for our outstanding meal. Top notch food, ambiance at a fun location in town.
Fabulous! Excellent service and fit for foodies!
My partner and I saw the owner/chef on the Food Network and knew we had to visit and try the food while on our vacation in Alberta.
The food exceeded our expectations and it was amazing! Best salad I’ve ever eaten and my partner, as a chef, is quite the foodie and he thoroughly enjoyed his meal!
Leslie was also a great server and gave an experience we will never forget.
Our server, Shannon, was absolutely incredible!
Restaurant was pretty empty the day after the Lon weekend. Shared seafood platter and avocado pistachio bruschetta - which were good. Main course was NY Steak with beans and carrots. This main meal was subpar. Carrots were mushy, beans were Ok, but breadcrumb topping was toasted very hard. The steak was most disappointing with the amount of salt - edible but could not taste the meat itself. Disappointing, given that this is what they are, apparently, known for.
Made a reservation for the rooftop (I thought) but was told it was being used by a wedding event. When the restaurant called to confirm my reservation and told me about the wedding on the 2nd floor it was not mentioned that the rooftop was being used as well. We sat down outside and ordered our drinks and had someone else abruptly ask “what would you like?” a few minutes later. Weird I thought but in the end the bartender lost our drink orders and we waited about 10 mins for our drinks.
The octopus appetizer was delicious. The entree we shared was just ok which was disappointing as I was excited to try the porter house. We asked for it to be between medium rare - medium and it came out closer to medium and medium well. I understand the edges would be more cooked but didn’t think it would be well done. Ordered dessert and it was good. Overall, the food was ok but was disappointed as we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and didn’t feel like it was as nice as a place as I thought it would be.
Had a great company event at Charbar. Awesome staff and food.
Love the atmosphere and ambiance at Charbar. I’ve been one other time for brunch and it was really good. This time we went for dinner. To be honest the steaks and sides were OK, but not great. I think they could up their game a bit to compete with other steak houses in Calgary. The service was very good. Overall a good time, just not the best steaks in Calgary.
Our meal was fantastic both in quality and the flavour! It was our first time there and we will visit again for sure. The staff at all levels were great and their suggestions were right on.
Tiny detail that seemed peculiar. We orderd coffee after dinner and received big mugs with 1 sugar cube each, and little creamers of 2% milk. Where was the cream that is usual for coffee. Requesting cream we received more 2%milk.
As I said, it's small peanuts and we will definitely go back.
The food and the service were great! Our waitress was knowledgeable and helped us select the right variety and amount of food for our party of 5. I recommend Charbar!
Had 2 appetizers, octopus and pistachio avocado toast & finished with the chicken as a main. Me and my friend were stuffed and took home left overs. Good wine selection.. will be back.
Awesome place. Don't miss out on this place. Your taste buds will thank you.
Our first time at Charbar a nice ambiance and not too busy . Music could have changed instead of replaying, but we liked most all . The main courses of meat was tough to chew and salt at the table was for cooking and not proper for the table .
We will try to make another visit in the near future .
not worth it for that price. not coming back for a second time.
The steaks are amazing! Love the fire grill. First time eating here and we will 100% be back.
The quality of the food is excellent, what you pay is worth it.
The service was awesome, taking care of every detail and presentation.
The ambience is a bit loud but nothing to worry about too much.
Will repeat for sure!
Very poor dining experience- don’t believe the hype. We are back in Calgary for the summer and we had been recommended Charbar by several people, but it seems to be focused on style over substance. Once seated we had a friendly server greet us, pour us water, and then promptly disappear. 10 minutes later we finally were begrudgingly acknowledged by a different server who seemed disinterested in serving us, though pleasant with other tables around us. No greeting, no describing the specials, etc. We ordered drinks and he brought us a pisco sour that was utterly undrinkable, and a cider that wasn’t the one described on the menu, or what we ordered. After sending both back for different, mediocre drink options, we ordered food. The oysters were good, the wedge salad was good until I found a hair in it, at which point we stopped eating it, and the picanha and fries were mediocre and very tough, obviously prepared by someone who has never had a decent picanha in Latin America (the key is salt and time, neither of which charbar used on theirs). We were not asked how we wanted our steak cooked. The fries, however, were great. At this point, we just wanted out, so skipped dessert or any further drinks. The waiter was absolutely disinterested in our experience and never came to see how we liked anything, as was the manager even though she is who we spoke to in order to send the drinks back. The waiter assumed we were american when bringing the bill (wtf? We’re both from Alberta). Won’t be going here again.
Have been to CharBar in the past and it ranked high on our list of best restaurants. On this visit my New York tenderloin was tough and service was adequate. The oysters however were delicious.
Waited 1 hour 45 for food with no explanation, place was not overly busy. When fold arrived it was lukewarm to cold. Had to wait 20 minutes for drinks. Overall, very poor experience.
Excellent service. Food on the pricy side but good quality.
A lovely night out enjoying a fantastic meal. Superb ambiance and a great place to host out of town business guests.
Amazing food and wine. Beautiful restaurant. Only thing is they stop serving food and drinks at 9pm which is very early. Maybe it’s different on weekends (we were there on on Monday night)
Service was outstanding, the lady serving us was very professional and friendly… and knowledgeable! Food as always superb!
Once again the meal was excellent. We had the ceviche which was spectacular along with Oysters on the half shell were nice and light for the hot evening. The Kentucky Mule and the Mojito were perfect.
Excellent as usual.
Thanks Connie and to her gang.
The food was very good but the patio furniture was uncomfortable, there were no umbrellas and no ambiance
Ceviche was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
The restaurant was not that busy (late Thursday evening), however it took around 30 min for our first drink order to be taken. We waited for 45 min for server to come back after delivering our first drink, and she never checked on us to see if we wanted to order another drink or food. We had to flag another server down to grab our server. We ordered the empanadas, brussel sprouts, carrots and fries; all were fine but not worth the cost. Overall, not a great experience and don't plan on going back.
Such an amazing place to eat! We love going to Charbar!
Food is always delicious and service is always pleasant and courteous.
The waiter was really helpful and knowledgeable. Its a nice spot but for the cost the steak could've been better.
The server was great. Hostess was curt to the point of rudeness.
Slow service. Food was underwhelming. Steak was undercooked. We've had better steaks at less expensive restaurant. Side was delivered after we finished eating the meal. Brussel sprouts were just charred flakes and no whole or halves pieces.
