Food was cold. Service was average. Prices way too high for what we got. Overall a miss!
The food was very good but the portion sizes were small for the price
I am not sure why lovely restaurants dole out their worst tables to the first arrivals. Empty room apparently equals table closest to the toilet and “I am sure that you won’t mind if our coat rack is as close to you as possible because, although we should be the best at it of most professions, we have no concept of personal space.”
In all fairness I could have asked to be moved at the beginning but it didn’t seem too bad on first glance. There was a portable dividing wall between the table and the washroom door and initially the coat rack was 6 feet away. Of corse some guy who felt a need to comment on everything came in shortly after us and for some reason the coat rack was pulled to just on the other side of our portable wall, which turned out to be quite wobbly. I’m am not sure why his wack issue was accommodated to our detriment; you would have to ask the server. No one even sat at the table nearest where the rack had originally stood. Exciting for us as the room filled up we got coats overflowing around the wall to brush into our space, wall bouncing beside us with each addition and oh so lucky to get to have each diner on the level pop by to within 6 inches of us floundering through pockets blah blah blah, you get the idea. Come on guys!
Last straw had us get up and leave early asking for bill so we could be on our way. We were left standing with no bill brought while the server tried quite worriedly to who seemed to be a head server. Frustrated I approached them with my credit card and was told it was “comp”. Argh. Upset customer asking for bill should not be left standing while other plans are made.
I often entertain clients and have enjoyed the development of Calgary culturally, but restaurants of this potential are still throwing “casual dining” trained servers with little refinement on creating an experience, or leadership at their guests and the art of the kitchen doesn’t have a chance. Carbonara was lovely and warmed olives are a nice touch.
We have already recommended Bonterra to friends. Loved the atmosphere. Would have loved to be upstairs where the noise level would have been a little less. Ordered the Chief's 4 course dinner and loved it. Good selection of wines too. We will be back and will be asking for the upstairs seating.
Me and my wife chose this place for our vanetine’s day. Our experience was not pleasant from waiting to be seated, service and the food but I believe if you go on a normal day, sure the service would be good and food depend on what you choose, could be good or bad. Its a beautiful place, vibrant and nice ambient but sure they failed to manage lot of customers with poor or zero service I shall say. You could see their staff just moving around, while you are waving hand on your lonely Island ;-))))
Great experience, great food and great atmosphere
Excellent food and service. The Pollo alla Milanese was excellent!
I have been going to Bonterra and it’s still one of my favourite!
Bonterra never disappoints, food is always amazing, staff is extraordinary, and they go the extra mile for special occasions.
Great vibe, good food.
The most incredible Italian food that we have ever had!
A great atmosphere and teh service was top notch.
Great service and a great meal
Loved the appetizer and our entrees but the dessert was a complete miss on the kitchen's part. Just wasn't good. We felt as though the restaurant needs a refresher as it's a bit outdated (especially with all the new restaurants popping up in the city) but we enjoyed our experience!
We love the food, and you have to have the full meal deal because it's so good. Starter, Entree and definitely Tiramisu for Dessert.
Bonterra is my go-to for an always reliable delicious meal in a beautiful setting with great service. I've never had a bad experience!
A great place that I continue to return to as everything about Bonterra is FANTASTIC!!!
My main course came out before the tables appetizers. Had to wait after appetizer and an additional 15 minutes before everyone else’s main dish came out so mine was cold. When I informed management they didn’t really seem to care. Made for a poor experience. You go out with people to enjoy the meal at the same time especially when ordered at the same time. Definite kitchen or server error.
I booked a birthday dinner with a friend. We shared the calamari which was excellent. The arancini shared was acceptable. My friend ordered Spaghetti Bolognese which she thoroughly enjoyed.
I ordered the Gnocchi e Sofrito which was disappointing. The waiter warned that the plate was hot but the same could not be said of the contents. The meal was lukewarm and was underwhelming. I’ve eaten at Bonterra previously and it has always been wonderful. Dinner on this occasion was disappointing. It may be a while before I try bonterra in the future.
We had a great experience (as usual)! Ben’s Tasting menu was absolutely delicious. The beet salad was definitely my favourite although every course left us wanting more. The service was top notch- we always receive wonderful service and this visit was no exception. We’ll be back soon.
We went with a group of 6 and all of us had the family sharing plates. Everything was delicious and it was just the right amount of food. I won't forget the chicken main. I'm excited to go back.
Service very slow. Had to wait a lot for food and the place was not very busy.
Great atmosphere & service. Food was outstanding and lunch special was a hit. Would recommend.
Food was great service was slow was quite noisy our table was near the door so was cold when anyone walked in.
Excellent food!!! Atmosphere was great and the waitress was prompt, friendly and able to recommend a dish. Enjoyed it ver much!! Will be back.
Ordered lasagna special 40 layers with meat filling. It was basically dry noodles with a bit of tomato paste and a single shaving of cheese on top with no meat at all. Awful! Two others had the carbonara which was served cold. Not a good experience. Spoke to manager she offered a shot of limoncello to us but still I did not eat as the others were finishing their food and it had already taken a long time. Will not re visit.
All the above, except every day dining, too rich food for everyday 😊
Awesome spot with great food! Our server was amazing too!
Don't fret over which wine to have with your meal. Let the expert serving staff decide for you. You will not be disappointed.
I would love to comment on the service that I received on Saturday, January 5th. I made a reservation for my anniversary and Bonterra Trattoria did NOT disappoint! Upon arrival, we were greeted immediately and taken to a quiet table in the upper level. Our delightful server (sorry, forgot her name) brought us two glasses of champagne when we sat down and wished us a happy anniversary. Great start to the evening. The place was packed; which is what I like to see but sometimes when places are busy, the service and the food suffer. The service was fast, and the food was incredible!!! We were given the option to try a chef's tasting menu and Chef Adam curated a menu that was exquisite! Every single dish was prepared with the finesse of an artist! The arancini was perfectly browned; the veal meatballs were perfectly seasoned; and I would never have ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli, but I must admit, it was incredible! The wine selection was appropriate, but the ambiance and the level of service was amazing. It has been a long time since I have gone out to eat and not noticed the time. We were shocked to see that we had been there for over 3 hours already. Time really does fly when you are having fun and we had a great time. Thank you, Chef Adam, Bonterra Trattoria and our delightful server for making this night, one that we will never forget. We promise not to wait until our next anniversary to stop by again.
Amazing service!! Loved our waiter, he had a sense of humour and made us feel comfortable.. especially when we couldn't read the Italian words very well.
Amazing food but it comes to you slowly. Went for the four course dinner and was there for around 2.5 hours.
Food was very delicious and presented beautifully. Great place for dates and group dinners.
Bustling place on New Year Eve. Great food, service and atmosphere.
Restaurant was cold.waited 1.5 hours for food and came out cold
I always enjoy Bonterra and we chose to come for New Year’s Eve as I had seen the evening’s menu was to include the 40 layer lasagna. I enjoyed it and even more so after asking for additional tomato sauce!
My friend ordered the carbonara and did not enjoy it. Our server was kind enough to take it from the bill.
We made some excellent wine choices and saved room for the tiramisu which did not disappoint.
The only blemish on the evening was that I I slipped on some spilled ice water near the bathroom. I hope that no one else fell on the same spot.
Best restaurant in a long time. Not cheap but worth the $$. Authentic Italian cuisine with an experimental touch. Wines are over priced as usual, but above average selection of Italians. Overall I'll recommend this establishment to my best friends!
Food was great, service was good for a busy night with NYE. overbooked at Posto next door so restaurant had Posto customers with different menu, no big deal but we asked for pizza too but no dice. Server was a bit short about the situation but didn’t negatively impact our experience.
Excellent food. Portion sizes were perfect. Wine list was phenomenal. Tables were a little close... made it difficult for inimate dining.
Fantastic experience. Great food. Family style menu was excellent. Would definitely go back.
Amazing! Staff was so nice.
I’ve eaten here many times, mostly in the summer and was just as pleased with their winter menu when I was there on Saturday! Bonterra never disappoints!
