Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar. The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.
Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits & local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.
The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

This was our second visit to The Black Cat in the past two years. We have a bad habit of always searching out new restaurants to try but we went back to TBC instead. It is a marvelous culinary experience with creative uses of local ingredients (and non-local!) without being ridiculous. We did the tasting menu with paired wines for both occasions, but were really challenged in the best way with the pairings this time. We enjoyed the back and forth with the wait staff and the sommelier - all were charming and added to the fun. We started with a yellowtail appetizer and ended with a bison entree followed by a light cake to top it all off. We had different favorites but I can't not mention the silky foie gras with the albarino. Enjoy.
Pretty pricey, but excellent food, wine and service. Great for special occasions.
Eating the tasting menu at The Black Cat is always a pleasure. The intimate setting and the views of the kitchen at work are really great. We got the cozy table in the back which was really fun. The Black Cat has great farm to table food with wonderful combinations/sauces of many unusual ingredients (e.g. kalamata olive caramel). The Colorado Striped Bass had perfect crunchy skin and the farm lamb and pork was full of surprises (e.g. head cheese!). We shared both wine parings (basic and premium) which gave us a sample of many diverse wines. Alex did a great job discussing each sample.
Very expensive, but very good. Fun to go to on a special occasion.
Had a great dinner. Food wine and cocktails all outstanding
Very creative presentations. Farm to table story is impressive. Service impeccable. Plan for 2 1/2 hr minimum to truly enjoy the tastes and atmosphere. Romantic, with well dressed waiters, but not stuffy.
This was our second visit to The Black Cat. The first one was 5 years ago, and to be honest, I didn't want to return because I was afraid a second outing wouldn't come close to the first which was an Amazing Experience. I was very wrong.
This Birthday dinner for my wife was just as special.
We decided on the Chef's Tasting Menu with Premium Wine Pairings, and while expensive by our standards, it was worth every penny. Where else can you get a wine from France bottled in 1999 when the current year is 2018!
The Sommelier was excellent in his presentation of each glass with a unique story accompanying it. The food was a delight. We were taken care of with Excellent Service and found that we had some common interests with the Hostess/Main Presenter as the night went on.
There was a point after the first few courses where I felt as if we were being just a little bit rushed, but when I mentioned that we wanted to slow down, that was immediately implemented with the dining experience taking approx 3 1/2 hours so we could savor every moment.
I would consider this one of the best Foodie Experiences in all of Colorado, and would not hesitate to have an entire evening here.
What a wonderful restaurant. The decor is very "Boulder" and a lot of fun. Everyone was so friendly, professional and knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu. The farm to table experience and interesting and delicious dishes were fantastic. The wine list was extensive and house cocktails looked tasty. We had a bottle of wine with our dinner. We are looking forward to coming back and bringing friends and family when they come visit.
Was so good I went two nights in a row. Sommelier was outstanding.
Well prepared and presented food. Liked the menu options and loved the fixed price multi-course option. The wine pairing was not a good option or value. You’re better off picking something you like from their list.
The beet salad was delicious.
I ordered a vegetarian pasta dish. It turned out to be too spicy for me. The restaurant replaced it with another choice that was recommended. It turned out to be delicious but the vegetables were spicy as well. The lamb was delicious.
My husband had the soup and sea bass. Both were delicious.
First time was a charm. Luckily, we couldn't reserve at Flagstaff where we go to celebrate. The small scale, exceptional service by each of the wait staff, comfortable couch, quiet room, outstanding food variety and quality of prep and presentation. Delightfully surprised because we were first-timers.
The wait staff's enthusiasm about the food and eagerness to please was exceptional. With each plate (chef's choice for one of us and off menu for the other), we sensed the wait person was thoroughly invested in pleasing us.
We always get the tasting menu with the wine pairing and we've never been disappointed.
From start to finish we had a fantastic meal. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive without being obtrusive. Every course was great and the wine pairings were spot on. Now at the top of our favorite restaurants. Highly recommended
What an absolutely beautiful dining experience. I was in Boulder for my annual “treat yoself” weekend, which included the chefs tasting menu w/wine pairings at Black Cat. It exceeded my expectations as a fine dining experience. If I had to choose one dish as my favorite, I couldn’t, the hamachi crudo and Colorado striped bass were my favorite but everything was really amazing.
Black Cat is always great. Not sure what was going on with the A/C on the last visit, but the little portable A/C hanging out the front door doesn’t add to the experience or quite do the cooking job... But once inside, all was great, as always. Black Cat is a great meal and an experience.
We love the Black Cat. We don't eat out as much as we used to. We've been to the big name elegant restaurants in Boulder and enjoy it very much. The Black Cat always comes out on top for an overall dining experience. I can't wait until the next time we dine there.
Excellent, can’t say enough good things about the food, service, etc. Really a wonderful restaurant and farm to table experience.
This is an excellent restaurant with unique food and a very knowledgeable staff. We had a multi-course meal which was served with a detailed explanation of the preparation and source (mostly local) of each course. Plan on spending a couple of hours. It is not a large restaurant, and the noise level was low and allowed for conversation at a normal level. The staff was very attentive . Highly recommended.
Outstanding! We had the tasting menu and were delighted. The offerings were varied and generous, the pairings delicious!
Most impressive was meeting the chef and his wife. Chef Skokan is fully committed to making your experience a memorable one. And he obviously loves what he is doing -- and succeeds!
The menu is complete: crudo, an unexpected yet delicious surprise, the best foie gras EVER (and we have dinned at Joel Robuchon's), fish, tenderloin, and dessert. Spectacular!!
The food and service was exceptional. I was disappointed at our table location in the center of the restaurant after mentioning a special occasion when making reservations. Some if the more private tables were open well after our arrival. Better seating would have made the evening perfect.
We love the Black Cat. There food is always out of this world, and we just get the tasting menu. Never disappointed. Service is on it with attentive care, warmth, and ease. Open kitchen can be seen calmly producing masterpieces all night long. So good!
Excellent farm to table restaurant with very knowledgeable staff and snappy service!
An absolutely outstanding dining experience. The chef’s tasting menu is beautifully prepared and elegantly served. The wines accompanying each choice are carefully chosen and wonderfully detailed explanations about each choiceis provided by the sommelier. The restaurant is tiny so the noise level is very low. Diners sit side by side on couches. Just a wonderful experience and very much the place for special occasions. Food is fabulous!
The service was outstanding, the ambiance was nice, but the food was a disappointment. I had the lamb shank which was cold in parts and very greasy. The pieces of bread in the dish were unappetizing. Considering the high cost, the food should have been better.
Wonderful tasting menu! Good wine! Somewhat expensive but my husband said it’s the best food he’s eaten!! And we eat frequently at nice places.
Loved this restaurant. Our first night in Boulder and the meal really made it special. Great place for foodies. I had the tasting menu and paired wines. My husband had an appetizer and entre. Delicious and high quality. They have their own farm and they’re clearly proud of their work! Cozy atmosphere and full view of the kitchen.
Perfect place for a 3-4 hour fine, creative, local and fresh dining experience. With top notch friendly but professional and knowledgeable staff.
We decided to try the tasting menu, and it was definitely a good choice. The opening hamachi dish was very tasty, and the bison main course was probably the best thing we ate all night. The service was excellent, and we had a very attentive waitress who recommended some very good white and red wines for us.
Fantastic chef's tasting menu and wine pairing. Expensive, but well worth it if you enjoy fine food.
Wonderful anniversary experience!!...great food...great people...great service...
Second dinner date at the Black Cat. Chose the tasting menu for the second time to experience different seasonal options (first dinner in January, second in August). Service and food was top notch, as was the wine paired with the food. I'm not a oenophile, but the wine pairings complemented the food in a way that is hard not to appreciate. Sommelier had an interesting factoid about each wine we tried (in this case a couple of the wines were made from grape varieties that had fallen out of favor but were resurrected by passionate vintners). My girl eats gluten free and the few adjustments to dishes made to meet that requirement were quite tasty. This is not an inexpensive restaurant -- in this case mid-$300s with tip -- but you truly get what you pay for.
Superb. A real treat for a special occasion or otherwise.
A true gem from the personality of the staff, atmosphere, service, quality of food, comfort, ambience. Could go on and on. We loved it and will definitely return. Jill and Eric, you can be so very proud of what you are giving to your public! Thank you whole heartedly for a lovely experience!
lovely food and very accommodating to those with dietary restrictions.
Fabulous! Chefs tasting menu and wine pairing flight was superb...service was exceptional even when the restaurant filled up...the tasting menu was phenomenal and an excellent value for the quality and quantity- everything was delicious. A special place for a true farm to table experience, the best!
Food service was fine, but wine service was not. Our first choice for sparkling wine wasn’t available, but the sommelier took his time letting us know. Glassy of dinner wine sat on bar until well after our food was served. Not clear who was responsible for the delay; it was very annoying.
Always excellent service. Best to choose Chef’s choice and premium wine pairing. Cuisine outstanding but dessert last couple visits not stellar. Always a #1 pick spot when family, friends and business colleagues in town. Expect a hefty bill for this top of the line restaurant.
An absolutely wonderful experience. The service, the food, and the wine were fantastic. When in Boulder, this is the place to go.
