ROAR is a restaurant rooted in rebellion. We honour the rebellious history of Tofino and we proudly rebel against the status quo. It’s the waves crashing and raging flames. It’s the roar of a rebellious nature.

This isn’t like any other restaurant. We cook with live fire, and all of our food and beverage is inspired by the local people, makers and ingredients of Tofino.

About the restaurant

JJ’s Restaurant is a Vancouver institution. Both the kitchen and front of house are run by students who are in their 2nd level of cook training. Enjoy a three-course a la carte lunch which is reasonably priced and produced with the highest level of passion and care by students with the guidance of their Chef Instructors. If you are interested in a group booking please email culinaryarts@vcc.ca. Chef's Table dinner is a set menu, and courses can not be changed due to guest preferences. We have these specific proteins on the menu to further the student's knowledge in the program.

Please note that JJ’s and Chef’s Table service may be interrupted by inclement weather, including extreme heat or significant snowfalls. VCC makes this precaution to keep the staff and customers safe. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

My Wife and I went here for my Birthday, and was very pleasantly surprised. the Food was excellent, and we had a wonderful server. it was a Wednesday so not so busy, so we will go back maybe on a busier day to see how the service is.

I haven't been to Sammy J's for a long time and stopped there for lunch with a friend. We shared a beef dip and it was delicious! Our server was great and she had the kitchen split the order so we each had our own plate and didn't have to split it at the table. Will definitely head back there again soon.

Great restaurant. You pay for what you get so it's not "great value". But in my past experiences with food and beverage in the area, this is by far one of the most unique. Great small dishes. Thoughtful wine menu(someone has some good knowledge). And great cocktails. Paired with a nice and new building with great views, this will always be a good choice
