We had the sugar rub on ribeye - best ribeye I have ever had!! Delicious! Make reservations- even on a weeknight.
We enjoyed the food, but did not find it as unusual or unique as expected. It was delicious and high quality, but not worth the price for something other than an occasional visit.
We ate there on or 3rd and aniv and again now on our 43rd. :-)
As always, our dinner was wonderful. Half the couple ALWAYS gets sugar steak. The other half tried the veal marsala this time. Both were great. This visit we dined with a very loud group having a birthday party across the room. They were having a good time, but we didn't linger over our meal. The noise level was very high.
How did I not know about this place?! One of the best steaks of my life and my new favorite restaurant. Really a Denver traditional gem.
Very friendly welcoming steak house steak was outstanding 10 out of 10 to the chef
It was great. Guests really enjoyed decor and loved the sugar ribeye...
The service was great, food was delicious, and the cocktails were very good as well!
A bit pricier than our usual fair (pretty much only eat here on special occasions), but the steaks are amazing. All the food is really delicious and they have a great selection of wines and cocktails as well.
I've been going to Bastien's since the 1980's when I first moved to Denver. It's an east Colfax institution that I love to bring friends to. The food is great, the old school retro vibe is fun and the family that owns the restaurant is awesome and multiple generations work there. Laura and Jessica are the best!
Enjoyed an anniversary dinner with friends. Wonderful (complimentary) cheesecake to top off the meal.
Always a great experience. Great staff. Great service and food.
Don't let the outside fool you! This location has been the same since the 50's which makes it charming if nothing else!
When we first walked in, it was like walking back in time. The music was even from the big band era which I loved!
After having a couple of questions about specific items on the menu, the server offered to give us a little taste to decide if we'd like the soup. It definitely helped make our decision easier. What a fantastic gesture.
I ordered the sugar steak and my Grandmother had the sirloin. That sugar steak was HANDS DOWN the BEST steak I have EVER had in my entire LIFE! The sugar seasoning caramelizes in the char broil and it creates this flavor that you're never going to have anywhere else! My Grandmother prefers her steak WELL done, almost burned to a crisp, so we had to send it back to be cooked a little more, but they were very accommodating. And she was perfectly pleased when it came back! Our vegetables were cooked to perfection and the gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted as if Grandma Bastien was in the kitchen stirring it!
The service was top notch, our server Rachel was very friendly with equal conversation and attention paid without being too much! She was perfect!
I would absolutely go back here again!....It's romantic and the food is superb!
Freaking tight. Best restaurant in Denver. Good for date night.
I dont know how ive lived here all my life and had never been to or heard of this place! definitely a hidden gem right off colfax and the food was amazing and the restaurant is super cute inside. i will definitely go back again. service was good as well.
A memorable dinner in a locally owned restaurant with outstanding food in a neat mid century gem of a building.
This place is WONDERFUL! I was so amazed by the quality of the food, the level of amazing service, and how great the ambiance was here. The bartender there makes a mean Kentucky Mule, which went perfectly with the signature Sugar Steak that they’re known for. I was dreaming about my dinner for days afterward. Don’t sleep on Bastien’s, this restaurant is a gem among gems.
Great place for killer steaks. It always has been, I suspect it always will be. If you want to go back in time this is the place... Mid-Century menu and music and ambiance. That includes, well mixed traditional cocktails. Seriously, who else in town features one of my Dad's favorite South Pacific WWII drink; the Salty Dog?
Yet again, very delicious. Steak was cooked to perfection and the ambiance is cool!
It was our first time dining here! We brought our friends who were visiting from out of town. We were extremely excited to try the sugar steaks after hearing a nice recommendation. It was good. It was exactly how I imagined a sugar steak would taste! Definitely a must try!!
It was good food! Will go back.
The only thing service could have been better.
Food was exceptional but service was too slow! Finished a bottle of wine before salads arrived. Waitress was really good so I think the problem was the kitchen.
Our service was a bit under what it normally is. They were busy though and it was a weekend.
Food is ALWAYS delicious!
No value here.
Was visiting family and it was an authentic steak restaurant. The food was delicious and the wait staff was amazing!
We were very disappointed with both the quality of the food and the service was Awful and that's putting it nicely. The waitress was anything but attentive, when our food was drop off mine (which was suppose to be med rare) was completely burned and tough, not editable. The vegetables and potatoes were below average and the other entree was just as bad. The waitress never bothered to come over once and ask about our food nor refill water or bread. In fact we were totally ignored and it was not that busy not to provide service. Plus we found her to be quite rude when we asked for our check and she was incredibly slow in delivering the check. We were so looking forward to coming for the 1st time to Bastien's but it's incredibly overrated, way too expensive, and honestly you'd get better customer service at a middle school student dance then at Bastien's!!!
The food and the service fell a little short this time around. Probably a Monday night thing...
From the classic drinks to the sugar steak, everything was delicious! Great service, too! We can't wait to return!
Great service and attentive wait staff. After 4 years of curiosity, I tried the sugar steak and it was over cooked and dry so it had to be sent back. It came out medium rare finally and was moist. The grilled Caesar was mayonaissy and not really a good classic Caesar flavor. My date had veal which was not prepared very well. The bread was unbelievably good. Good baked potato. Good wine. Won’t go back though.
Was early, and waited for friend, but bread brought before she arrived, ended up cold. Service got hectic as time progressed and noise got worse. Food excellent. We stayed long after finished to gab and were not rushed out like some place do. Appreciated that... Sat next to a stairway and table on another level. There was a divider, but still awkward, seeing legs and skirts go up stairs.. but..................... will go again, tho... yum....
I LOVE Bastien’s!! It is a go to when visitors to Denver come to town & it never disappoints!
Loved the grilled Caesar salad and the stuffed mushrooms. The Sugar Steak (their signature steak) was subpar. I wish I had gotten a filet instead. Also, the sizzling apple pie was not well executed. The ice cream that it was served with was melted by the time we received it. They also pour melted butter on the pie before serving which then dominates the taste. The servers were very nice but incredibly slow. We sat at the table for almost 15-20 minutes before a server came by to take drink orders. I would not go back.
We continue to enjoy our experiences here. Their appetizers, salads, steaks and desserts are awesome.
Took a couple with us this time , who had never been there and they were impressed.
Wife loved her 4X4 and I loved my bone in ribeye with blackberry habenero sauce. Also a fan of their grilled romaine Caesar salad
Rude waitress. Took almost 2 hours to get food. I guess they had a large party that they didn’t plan for
Had the special tonight. It was so good and calinini ( cross between cauliflower and brocilini was new and tasted great. Great service and can’t wait to go back to try our favorites, steak David and Black and Tan.
Great dining experience, never disappointing - best steak meal in Denver
The food was outstanding but the service was not the best. Waitress didn’t make us feel very welcome. No smile. Follow up not good. Asked for water refills and that took a while. Ran out of water again and I ended up getting our own pitcher. After getting served she didn’t come back to see if our food was cooked properly.
After asking for water the first time mumbled about she had 3 tables to worry about. Not my issue!
Soup..eehh. Appetizer good. Steak great. Twice baked potatoe is a must with it.
Great sever, full of great recommendations... great experience!
As good a steak as anywhere in the city. Neighborhood feel.
This restaurant has been around for a while. It seemed to us that they have put in a new Chef and the chef is really good. The food flavors were wonderful. This is not a place to go if you are in a hurry or need to be done within a certain time frame. You may be able to ask the server to expedite your meal, but if that is the case then go somewhere else. The dress is casual so you also don't have to get all dressed up to go out. The seating is very cozy so you also won't look out of place if you feel like dressing up. Don't let the outside fool you, it is very cute inside. There is also a bar if you want to meet up early and have a drink before dinner. Go online to check out the menu I won't waste space placing it here. We had a wonderful steak and assorted appetizers, but appetizers are our thing. Go relax and enjoy.
