Diner Reviews
  • "Love The Ivy -- excellent food and service - beautiful atmosphere, one that is always inviting -- and never pretentious!"
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "I have read all the hype about this place and whilst there were no celebrity sightings, the service and ambience made up for that. It's totally overpriced but a nice little place to have a romantic meal... It is more about the vibe of the place then the quality of the food. Be careful with the drinks they are VERY expensive ($24 for one simple cocktail) but overall we had a lovely night and felt very welcome."

  • "Gorgeous atmosphere, nice food (however not excellent) and great service. I'd recommend."

  • "I had really wanted to eat at the Ivy, as I have heard it was supposed to be amazing. Unfortunately, I left unamazed. We were seated out on the patio. I had to step over bags & squeeze my way to the table. Once I got there I was abruptly elbowed by an unapologetic old man. My table for 2 was surrounded by larger tables of 4+ & their conversations is all I could hear, so much for my little romantic garden wedding anniversary lunch. When we were seated, we were given a drink menu only. We had to wait 10 min to actually get the food menu. Our food tasted delicious, however, trying to eat on the tiny table is quite a challenge. Although there are more waiters than seated capacity, we still couldn't get refills on our ice water. Not worth it!"

  • "We went for the notoriety we had no idea that the service would be great and the food was OUTSTANDING! Best meal we had in LA. Waiter was terrific. Friendly, Fun and accomidating!"

  • "Had heard a lot about this restaurant and it did live up to it. The food was delicious. The crab cake benedict was especially the winner. The service was impeccable."

  • "The Ivy is a charming gem in the middle of high end Beverly Hills. The food/menu are wonderful. I ordered the cocktail of the day and it was delicious. The warning is the price tag..."

  • "Had a fantastic lunch with our teenage kids here. Lovely food and champagne cocktails. Very attentive staff and excellent people watching."

  • "The Ivy has been a well known "who's who" restaurant in the LA scene for a long time. People tend to get polarized by the place, but I say if you haven't been, then you need to go; especially for lunch (power or otherwise). I recommend sitting on the patio, as it can feel a little claustrophobic inside when it's crowded. The menu has a number of different items, from chicken enchiladas to lobster ravioli to kobe steak. There really is something for everyone. Service can be a little slow, so it's best if you're not in a big hurry. Order the Ivy Gimlet if you like a liquid lunch. They are very well made."

  • "he ambience is great -the staff are not particularly friendly -The food was ok but not very good - for this, it was too expensive -- because of the food you need not enter the restaurant to go"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Great food but drinks are expensive. $25.00 but I would still go for the service and food"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "We enjoy lunch you can appreciate the ambience much more during the day. It's romantic, love all the flower arrangements, pillows, dishware and service is excellent. It's the most beautiful shabby chic rest. In the city."

  • "Beautiful restaurant with lovely outdoor seating area. Food, drinks and service excellent. Our waiter has a great sense of humor and made our evening fun. We have been to Ivy several times in Santa Monica and London (latter no relation). This is the best. Hence have been 3 times in 2 weeks."

  • "The Ivy is the place to be seen and to see celebs, although I did not recognize anyone famous. I had the swordfish tacos and the cucumber Martini both were amazing. We ate outside and found it very cramp and hot, it would have helped having some fans running. The complimentary champagne while waiting for our table was a pleasant surprise and very appreciated. Overall the Ivy is what I expected and I would return."

  • "The food was excellent and the attention to detail was superb. Robin, our server, was very helpful and attentive. He gave a lot of excellent suggestion. The food may be quite pricey but the experience and the food are so worth it. I would definitely go back."

  • "The lobster dishes were fantastic. I love the decor. One my Los Angeles favorites!"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "From the moment we arrived before we even felt comfortable in the tiny chairs they put us in (party of 4 at a table suitable for 2) we were pushed to eat, pay, leave...waiter came around to take our order every 2 minutes. We hadn't had time to look at the menu. With desert came the bill - every 2 minutes he came to collect payment. This isn't the first time I have dined at this restaurant but this is the very first time I have been rushed to this degree. After all when you are paying 40 dollars for a simple salad you would like at least 10 minutes to enjoy it. All in all we were in, out in 35 minutes. I guess we failed at being hip and beautiful - even in our Chanel and Hermes gears - to belong in this space. Disappointing at best."

  • "I wasn't sure what to expect, you hear the name the Ivy and think over priced food stuck up waiter. Well this was not the case, great service, amazing food and it wasn't too bad being sat next to some Hollywood A-list celebrities. Best lobster tacos ever."

  • "the Ivy always is a charming place to go when celebrating a special occasion. . love the ambiance. food is always good - only one negative. . I had asked for a special birthday dessert with a candle, etc. and there was none."

  • "Great food, great atmosphere. Penne mozzarella & tomatoes was delicious."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We arrived 3 mins late of our reserved time for outdoor seating but we had to sit inside tucked in the back of a corner next to the wall with no view. The food portions were decent but the taste was very bland. Service was great."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Beautiful place! Excellent service! We had the shrimp tacos and hamburger. The hamburger was excellent! The tacos were just ok."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Absolutely fantastic food, very scenic, and the drinks were great. The service was alright, he was a bit slow at times and accidentally added something we didn't eat to the bill, but he took it off after I brought it up. Other than that the staff as a whole were extraordinary"

  • "The Ivy is a Classic. The Sunday brunch scene is energetic with great people watching of all ages. The flowers, decor, wait staff dress are bright and attractive. Great food with great service. Always an enjoyable experience"

  • "Food was fabulous, seating was perfect, service was spectacular! I will definitely eat at The Ivy the next time I'm in LA and would recommend it to all of my friends!"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Great ambience, very noisy but a good noisy! High energy, abundance of waiters, lovely decor, delicious food, great cocktail menu and delicious desserts-we had it all! Everyone's a star at The Ivy!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Seriously overpriced for very mediocre food. Though we had four people at our table, our dishes came out one at a time, with the last person served after the first had fisished eating. Even people with the worst dining manners know this isn't ok. I'm guessing this place is still in business because people think it's a celeb hangout. But truly, anyone who appreciates good food and service should stay away. And PS, we didn't see any celebs, so I suppose that's in the past, too."

  • "The Ivy lived up to its billing on our trip! We arrived about 15 minutes ahead of our reservation, and were seated within 5~10 minutes. While we waited, we were treated to champagne inside. Our drinks were works of art and the meals were delightful. I had the lobster ravioli and my wife had the swordfish tacos. If you are in LA, you cannot miss The Ivy!"

  • "My daughter wanted to celebrate turning 21 at the Ivy and the memories were worth it. Very attentive staff."

  • "The glasses are cheap!! They broke when we picked them up. But we got some cookies and another burger for 30 bucks so it worked out!!"

  • "There was a lot of seafood options which I cannot eat. I felt it very overpriced for the options available. The service was nice and the atmosphere unique. I would not visit again."

  • "We had a wonderful Father's Day Dinner at the Santa Monica Ivy. They accommodated us quickly even tho we were at the wrong Ivy (Beverly Hills is where I booked) My Husband truly enjoyed his steak. The service, food and atmosphere fantastic a little pricey but we'll return."

  • "Great place but be prepared to drop a bundle. Lower end entree's start at about $28 and go up from there. The food is good and the menu is very diverse. Lots of seafood dishes but plenty of other options. Staff is fast and very energetic. It's not a quiet place to dine as they pack folks in pretty tight."

  • "First the food was divine. had the tuna starter which was delicious with lots of avocado in the mix. then had the lobster salad which was also wonderful. the real problem was even with a reservation for 1pm we were not seated until 1:30. The tables were so crowded together that my legs had to straddle a table leg and the service was so slow we ran out of time for dessert (this was a birthday celebration) The space between tables was so tight the waiter dropped food and silverware while trying to navigate his way from our table after clearing it, hands nearly above his head to make room. by about 3 when we left, it was a bit quieter but i doubt I will be making my next lunch rezzy at 3pm...."

  • "This is the second time we've been to this restaurant and both times it's been superb. The lobster tacos were out of this world! Perfect for a special occasion"

  • "Mediocre food that is overpriced. I had a reservation at 11:15AM and did not get seated until 11:40AM. The waiter did not ask us how our food was after it came to our table. First and last time here."
