A word from The Grill on the Alley - Beverly Hills
The Grill on the Alley was opened in 1984 as a living tribute to the great American grills of yesterday. In time, it has established itself as one of the country's leading restaurants, praised by writers across the country. The menu is classic American grill - prime steaks, fresh seafood, traditional dishes such as chicken pot pie or meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and homemade desserts. Named to The Fine Dining Hall of Fame by Nation's Restaurant News, The Grill is home of the entertainment industry's "power lunch," but is also open for dinner seven days a week.Continued

  • "This is a great restaurant. You feel like you're in New York City. The food and service were wonderful!"

  • "I have often frequented this restaurant, and it is a hit every time. Whether I drop in for lunch or celebrating a special occasion, the food and the service all always on point. Thank you for a wonderful social and culinary experience."

  • "The hostess was rude. She sat others without a reservation in front of us. Then they sat us at a table which was too small for three people. I guess we were not "famous" enough. I expected better from the Grill on the Alley."

  • "A bit of a wait even with reservation, noisy, but a great restaurant and great food!"

  • "There is no better, consistently great, N.Y. style restaurant for dining on the westside. Menu specials are always the way to go!!!! Marvin Wolf- Attorney-Beverly Hills"

  • "It's a classic grill--perfect for business lunches. The food is excellent--I had the crab cake appetizer--and the waiters are experienced, professional ones who know how to serve and get you out within an hour. In its previous incarnation it was quieter and stuffier; now it's bustling and much less formal. I would definitely go again."

  • "the woman at the front check in was very rude. Arrived at 12:10 for a 12:00 and she went ballistic."

  • "It just doesn't get a lot better than this! Been coming here for business lunches for many years and they just do it right. The bread they bring to the table is always warm and delicious, my chilean sea bass was as good as I've had and the service was impeccable. I know that if I'm going to the Grille I can count on unobtrusive yet attentive service and great food...a perfect mix for allowing a meeting to focus on the things we are supposed to be focusing on!"

  • "I have eaten here for years & it's always great. I had Chilean Sea Bass & it was cooked to perfection. My guests had White Fish & they all raved about it. The side dishes were all cooked the way we all asked for. Service as usual was top of the line. The wines we had were great, but not cheap. Have a great time"

  • "I booked a reservation on open table and requested a quiet booth. When we got to the restaurant we were told (I was with a client), they we could have a booth if we would be finished by 1:15! The booths are for longtime patrons. We would have had to rush through lunch. Rude beginning. We asked for a quiet table and were shown a very nice table. Our waiter was wonderful and the service was fine. I ordered chicken piccata with asparagus. The meal costs $28 for lunch! The sauce on the chicken piccata was tasteless and the asparagus was huge and tough. The dessert and coffee was very good. The restaurant gets very crowded and loud. I don't know why this place is so popular. Overall a disappointing experience."

  • "Pricey and decent food. Will go back but not running back."

  • "We were looked after from the moment we entered, staff were great and the food was outstanding, especially the steak. Highly recommended when in LA"

  • "Food totally bland, server had an attitude, took forever to get our dinner which was not worth waiting for."

  • "Couldn't be more happy with out service and food on valentines day!!! Was a great experience and we will definitely be back!!! Thank you for such a meme robe experience!!!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Given the other reviews on this restaurant, it seemed like a good place to try on Valentine's Day. The food was uninspired (think of a cross between Capital Grill and a hollow version of Morton's), tables were crowded in together, and the ambiance was somewhat sterile."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "arrived early for a 6:00 pm reservation. Restaurant was empty, We were seated right in front of where the waiters enter and exist the kitchen. Noisy and annoying."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "This is our neighborhood restaurant that we frequent often. We have never been greeted by a hostess who was so unprofessional. It made an impact on our evening but the food and service were as good as they always are!"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Our visit was great, arrived early, sat at the bar, promptly at 8:45 the hostess got us and took us to our table. Server was attentive, and food came out quickly. It was a very pleasant dining experience. I would go back."

  • "We go to the Grille often and look forward to the greeting and treatment that Pamela gives us. She knows our name and is always energetic. On Feb 13 we went to the Grille for an early Valentines dinner, a night when Pamela was not there. We were greeted by what our server described as an overworked maître de and were told he needs a day off. We felt like nobody's when we arrived a bit early and were left at the bar and forgotten about until we asked about our table well past our reservation time."

  • "If you want excellent food, but food that you don't need a Ph. D. in gastronomy to figure out, go to the Grill. Classic American cuisine at its best! You should know that, if you like chicken pot pie, they will split it for you by making two separate pies. What a great accommodation."

  • "I have never been disappointed with dinner at Grill on the Alley. I tried the Sunday Prime Rib and it was outstanding."

  • "Our friends were in town for a medical conference and we chose The Grill on the recommendation of a local 'expert'. Making reservation on OpenTable was super easy and took about 30 seconds. The folks at The Grill were friendly and welcoming. I had the sea bass. Others at our table had crab cakes and the filet. All were thoroughly enjoyed. Two of us had the prix fixe dinner. If you like shrimp cocktail, this is the place to have it. Huge, perfect shrimp and a very nice cocktail sauce."

  • "Greatly disappointed. Service was attentive, if a bit rushed and impersonal. Didn't include the small things that should come with a place of this caliber. The waiter didn't explain what the chef's compliment was on the table, he didn't check to see if I was enjoying my appetizer, nor offer fresh pepper for my steak, nor even tell me what the Cabernet was that he recommended accompany my steak. My NY strip was very tender but cooked more to medium-rare than to medium. The flavor was nice but nothing exceptional. Baked potato was overcooked and grainy. I got the sense that the place is still popular based on its location and reputation, both of which seem to exceed the quality of the product it delivers. Simply not worth the cost."

  • "We enjoyed our dining experience very much. The food was great, the service was wonderful. We brought our own wine as we'd just come from Napa but they have a great wine list. The evening we went was relatively quiet but we hear it is a popular venue to spot stars on a regular basis. It was obvious that many of the patrons are regulars as they are known by the staff and all know each other. That's definitely a sign of a good restaurant! Enjoy!"

  • "We always enjoy a great dinner at The Grill on the Alley. The Tuna Tartare, Chicken Pot Pin, and Steaks are outstanding. If you want a booth, book a 5:50PM reservation, otherwise they are reserved for the regulars."

  • "Excellent Steaks cooked to perfection. However, the customer service was dry and it seemed as if the staff felt a bit a bit awkward that my wife and I; whom are both African-American were there to have an elegant evening. Their corporate office should address this issue. I will be discussing this particular site with my friends; for I have been to a number of "The Grill Restaurants" and this is the first occurrence where I could see this problem clearly. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the food, paid and left."

  • "We celebrated Christmas Eve at Gill on the Alley because I had such a great experience on a previous visit. The service is fantastic - truly customer focused. You are seated and given time to enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and not rushed through any aspects of your meal. The wait staff is perfectly trained to attend to your every need without being overbearing. WONDERFUL. The food is to die for. We shared the tuna tartare which my parents loved and they don't even "do" sushi along with the crab cakes. Both were delicious. Dad went with the John Dory fish special which he is still raving about. (He only ever gets salmon). I went for the bone in filet... amazing and mom with the braised short ribs... falling off the bone delicious."

  • "Meal I ordered, had arrived and it was wrong… I had to send it back. Side dishes were cold, had to be return. We even had to request bread-and-butter three times. This is the third consecutive time in six months, where we were very unsatisfied and feel that for the cost of the evening we just don't want to work that hard to get a great meal. It will be a very very long time before we ever return"

  • "The Grill was opened to emulate places like Musso and Franks and Tadich Grill in SF. It's better than both. Absolute quality ingredients, traditional grill fare and old-style professional service. It's generally packed with regulars from "the business", but the front desk is warm and without 'tude. I have a tradition of lunch between Christmas and New Year's, complete with a martini, then wandering around Beverly Hills watching the tourists. Perfect afternoon on a non-working day."

  • "Mostly because Beverly at the front door and Pablo, my server were very gracious. This is def. a "scene" place to be "seen". You could tell that many were faithful regulars. Nonetheless, it did not mar the experience as a first timer. Pablo was one of those waiters that just exudes experience, charm and humor. I wish he could be cloned for other restaurants... (kidding!) Will be back next time in LA. Much fun."

  • "If you are feeling like a great steak and a dry martini then this is the place. The Grill is a clasic for grown ups. The atmosphere is straight out of New York filtered through an LA sensibility. It serves consistently good food, nothing trendy just wonderful American fare cooked to perfection and served by professional waiters. And the Dover sole is the best of any on this side of the pond!"

  • "Thursday nite mid-Dec and the Grill was jumpin. Great meal & atmosphere. The business plan that keeps the Grill consistently packed may try different approaches but 'tried and true' works. Hostess & Staff greet customers with a warm heart and more than meet expectations."

  • "The Grill is an exceedingly pleasant place for a personal get-together with a friend, or a business lunch with a half-dozen colleagues. It works as a romantic spot as well, after hours."

  • "We've always experienced excellent food and service at this place but not this time. After food was delivered our waiter never stopped by to see if we need anything else, had to flag down the busboy for more lemons / more sauce . White fish is always excellent, but this time tasted a bit fishy."

  • "We're visiting LA and were recommended by residents..Literally staying at the hotel across the street we were happy to walk to our destination. We waited a short time at the bar for our table and although my brand of Vodka had "run" out the bartender was most apologetic and was able to serve me an alternative. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We were three diners and we all agreed the recommendation was perfect. We had a most satisfying dining experience and especially since we come from New York ."

  • "A long time favorite, it pains me to say the the Grill on the Alley is slipping. This was a special evening for my family but the service, food and ambinece was average. Only the bar service was good - the martiinis were superb. The prices are steep - very steep - but the GOTA does not deliver on its end of the bargain. Better options are available nearby and all over town. I only hope it was "just a bad night" and they bounce back - but it was a bad night indeed."
