A friend recommended The Compound and we will now, too! The whitewashed walls and lighting create a beautiful setting. The wine list was outstanding and each thing we ordered was superb. We'll make a point to go back each time we're in Santa Fe.

This restaurant was the dining highlight of our five days in Santa Fe. The service was impeccable & food was incredible! Our 1st course, the tuna tartare w/the lemon aioli was a great beginning. Our entrees - the pork tenderloin & chicken were beyond yummy - beautifully balanced flavors & presentation. We were going to pass on dessert until we saw the pumpkin creme brûlée - happily we didn't it was wonderful.

The Compound's most salient feature is the professionalism and courtesy of the staff and waiters. They were attentive and quietly assiduous. The atmosphere is "high end western" with subdues lighting and interesting art ( though I would have preferred real candles to electric ones). The cuisine was also high end though not as quite as exquisite as comparable menus in others cities. Overall a lovely experience

Housed in an adobe, the restaurant is lovely, full of art and laid out in a way that does not have you sitting on top of your neighbors. The food is superb; creative and locally sourced. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. Along with Geronimo's it is the best of Santa Fe.

Food was excellent and the setting was pleasant. Our only complaint was an over eager wait staff that left the impression that they wanted to turn over the table the moment we finished our desert and coffee. As a result a pleasant dining experience had overtones that we were just eating.

We wanted to have dinner here, but I had an accident and am using a walker, so decided lunch would be more appropriate. The staff couldn't have been more considerate, clearing a near-by table ( unlike another, more highly rated restaurant where I waited at the unattended podium for 8 minutes) and providing prompt, solicitous service. The food was very good and the portions extremely generous. I wish I lived in Santa Fe I'd go there every week!

We dined here on the night of our 33rd anniversary. It was also the frist Friday of the month which is the evening of the Canyon Museum walk where lots of art studios stay open late. This makes for a nice combination. The service was excellent down to some details. The waiter would not pour my wife's coffee until she returned to the table so it would be hot for her. My dessert special, a pumkin creme brulee with spiced pepitas was great. The chef made a good choice to NOT pumpkin pie spice the brulee. It's not cheap here and not heavy on the Southwestern influence on the menu. But we were looking for a nice spot to have an upscale anniversary dinner and The Compound delivered.

We ended a 6 day New Mexico vacation with dinner at The Compound and were not disappointed. The food is classic top end dining, and after a week of regional Southwest cuisine, as one of our party enthused, "Not a chili in any dish!" All 6 of us agreed every course was top drawer - delicious, classically prepared with creative touches that reflected the chef's unique style. Portions were ample for sharing. Service delightful - attentive yet leisurely for those of us who love a 3 hour dining experience. My only regret is we dined late and so missed seeing the premises in the daylight. In a town where excellent restaurants are plentiful, The Compound is on our short list and will be a repeat.

We went here for our anniversary, and although we read The Compound was past its prime, were expecting a fine dining experience. It was far from fine. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very informal, commenting on aspects of our dress (He in a suit and tie, me in a dress) or my hair in an awkward way. When we sat down, my seat was covered in crumbs, presumably from the lunch service. We ordered wine from the menu, and there was a big kerfuffle when they couldn't find it. Only after 20 minutes and much mumbling and stumbling by our inexperienced-seeming waiter did we get any. Later on, I observed a male waiter giving a female waiter a massage in the middle of the floor. I want better service, professionalism, and quality for $300.

My husband and I were looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary and The Compound was perfect. Loved everything about it. The food was amazing! We had the truffled Mac and cheese (I had to restrain myself from licking the bowl clean), corn soup, the mushroom entree and a fish dish. So delicious! So glad we went there! Wanted to try the molten chocolate cake but we were so full, so we just shared some yummy coffee ice cream and blood orange sorbet. Btw my blood orange margarita was on the dry side - it was very good, but don't order it if you like your drinks on the sweet side

Compound gets so much hype, we are, perhaps looking for more, more. The restaurant is not paticulary inviting, inside or out, and parking is difficult. The welcome and service is all excellent. The food is well prepared, and delicious, but neither the presentation nor the preparation is absolutely first class. Wine is expensive, but a the list is full of variety. All Santa Fe is beginning to push local white sparkling over Champagne, and shouldn't. We were eating early, and a later time would have perhaps added more drama to everything. I just expect a little more.

It was my birthday dinner I booked a week early. I was excited about having dinner there again. I live in Dallas and in the past I remembered it being a wonderful experience. We got all dressed for the occasion, ordered dinner. I got a $45 steak that was barely warm and completely raw in the center (I ordered it med. rare). I waited about 10 min. for someone to notice me,finally I had to got up and found a waiter to take my steak back and cook it to my order(still not right) & asked the waiter to please pay attention to us, which he did. 2nd person in the party ordered the fish which was fishy & tough.3rd person ordered duck which was raw and chewy. The food basically ho-hum for about $250-$300. Best part was my $30 glass of Stags Leap Cab

How's this for an appetizer, grilled rabbit loin stuffed with applewood bacon. Yeah, it was that good. My wife had the foie gras and sweetbread combination. Wonderful. Only disappointment was the rack of lamb. 2 very tiny lollipops and one good size, but that one was well done and I ordered medium rare. The meat was so excellent that it was still fine. They finished our anniversary dinner with a beautiful molten chocolate cake wth raspberry sorbet with " Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. Pricey but worth it.

In the context of a lovely setting, the staff seemed frazzled the day my friend and I went. I had come to eat their pastrami sandwich with the hopes that it was a real pastrami at last. It was--the meat was delicious. However, the sandwich came slathered in (gasp) mayo, on (gasp) buttered toast, and it was clear the person in the kitchen making this had NO CLUE how to put together a classic pastrami sandwich. And for this I blame the chef and owner, who was trained at the CIA, just 2 hours north of Manhattan, where he surely had at least one proper pastrami in his life on a day off in the city. The nicely chopped coleslaw was so drenched in vinegar as to be inedible. Staff brought the wrong mustard and clearly was baffled. Trouble awaits

The food was excellent. The service was attentive but void of personality. Very noisy - there were 2 wedding parties in the restaurant. We left agreeing that while the food was great, the overall experience was cold, rushed & nothing we would go back for. We had told the restaurant it was our anniversary & requested a nice table (which we didn't really get,) at the end of our meal they did offer us a plate with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate with a few cookies. It was a nice touch, but the manner in which it was presented was so odd/forced that they would've been better off not offering. The waiter commented "I know it's not much, but happy anniversary." Strange & more than he'd uttered all night.

It had been almost two decades since I'd been to the Compound, and the experience was sublime. The lovely patio, beautiful light, attentive if often humorless service, and excellent wine list reminded me why I loved it in the old days. The food however, was at best, meh. My old favorite Stacked Salad was a dressing heavy slop of lettuce molded into shape and unimaginatively topped. There were raves for the crab and lobster salad, which faded as the crab and lobster disappeared and the remaining salad was simply... greens. A Nicoise turned up nicely as well, even if noticeably pinche on the tuna. This is not to say I wouldn't return in a heartbeat. I will. But I won't go for the food, I'll go for the otherwise luxurious experience.

Having had great experiences at the Compound, I arranged for a group of 6 for dinner. Were seated promptly for an 8:30 reservation in a small upstairs room. Service was slow to start. The excuse: "it's our second busiest night of the year." One guest didn't get his Manhattan strait up. He was told first that it was coming right up then that it would be a few minutes more since they had run out of martini glasses. 20 minutes later, the waiter brought the Manhattan in an old fashioned glass with ice. Some appetizers missing and others for another table delivered to ours. Main courses arrived undercooked or just warm. Wrong dessert delivered and gelato melted. Other issues also. Confused service from legendary restaurant. Disappointing.
