Westerns Laundry is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant focusing on seafood & natural wines. The restaurant is located in the Islington/Highbury neighbourhood of North London. It opened in 2018 and is housed in a 1950's industrial building which used to be home to the largest commercial laundry in North London. It now boasts a beautiful 60 cover dining room, which opens onto an open 20 cover cobbled courtyard with olive trees as well as an intimate private dining room. Westerns Laundry has won numerous awards for excellence and originality and is a firm favourite on the London dining scene.

I booked a table for 2 for Friday 11 July. I specifically requested a quiet table to talk to my 75 year old friend flying in from abroad that day. The place to eat I was offered on arrival was the corner of a communal table next to a boisterous party of 6. There were empty booths but I didn't qualify for that. I was so disappointed, and asked if I could rebook for the next day. They pointed at a shady table outside and told me I could have that table the following day. When we returned the next day we didn't get that table, but one in full sun. I was so blinded by the sun one of the waiters gave me some sunglasses. I was really upset, super uncomfortable, unable to see my friend, or the food. Boiling hot and paying £100 for lovely food eaten in the most uncomfortable situation. I will not return.

The peach and almond cake with fig leaf ice cream Was the best dessert I’ve ever had. Perfection.

This was my second visit, and both the food and the restaurant were great. However, since the servers were quite busy, no one asked if we needed anything or offered to pour the wine. Our drinks had been empty for a while, but we didn’t feel like ordering more. That said, the food was absolutely delicious! If I come back to London, I would 100% visit again.

This is a gorgeous place to eat & drink with innovative fresh dishes, changing every week. Great staff, knowledgeable. But you have to be prepared to share the table with strangers if you sit inside. It all looks beautiful, they have set the table with the great style. But I personally prefer to be able to sit one-2-one with my guest. Outside is bench style, so if you don't mind not having a comfy seat, then it's possible to sit in a pair, or four.

We ate a delicious meal, particularly delicious was the cod and lentils and the ice cream with hazelnuts for pudding. The setting was beautiful. We sat at the counter near the open doors on a warm summer evening. The service was very good, professional and attentive. The only downside was the price. It does add up to be quite a pricy meal. We drank a carafe of white wine which complimented the meal.

All was pretty good - a bubbly, thriving restaurant. My only problem was with the wine - an english chardonnay at oer 70 pounds, it really was like drinking cider rather than wine. Yes, some natural wine advocates may love this, but please give us traditionalists something that we can drink with pleasure.
