Diner Reviews
  • "I had been here a few times, but my friend had not. So for her 50th. birthday I treated her to Sunday brunch. The restaurant was clean and quiet, and the food was delicious. And chef Martin Rios sent our a variety of desserts that were so good we ate everything."

  • "Another great meal at Restaurant Martin. As always the menu was creative, plates were beautifully presented and the service excellent. High recommended."

  • "We celebrated our 19th anniversary this weekend at Restaurant Martin, and we were delighted. Luz was our wait person, and she was FANTASTIC. Started us out with a little prosecco for the occasion, gave great recommendations, steered us to a great wine that went beautifully with our entrees... Loved every bite and every minute."

  • "It doesn't get the hype of some of the other Santa Fe restaurants, but it consistently has the best food, creatively cooked and beautifully plated. The other so-called good restaurants always have one bummer of a dish and the service inconsistent, if often a little pompous. Restaurant Martin always provides a warm reception and the wait staff is extremely pleasant, helpful and most professional. But in the end, it is the food. A glorious rich deep green pea soup, perfectly cooked lobster on pasta, succulent fresh fish with an unusual sauce, etc. . The wine list is excellent, and the servers know something about the wines on the list. It is my go too restaurant for any special occasion."

  • "The ideas behind this restaurant are great but execution was lacking. My Black Angus Beef filet was over cooked to start then came out twice raw. Dissapointing but maybe just a bad night for meat station? Will try it again, just not any time soon."

  • "A lovely restaurant in an old home Santa Fe style. We were treated well and the food was excellent. A lovely way to celebrate my husband's birthday"

  • "We've dined at Restaurant Martin several times over the years and have experienced exquisitely fabulous cuisine. The kitchen must have been off on this particularly evening."

  • "We have been dining at this restaurant once twice a year for several years now and we all agreed that our most recent visit was the best so far. Everything, including all of the accompaniments, were simply outstanding. Beautiful ingredients cooked to perfection with a great presentation. Service was spot-on and the wine list and pairing recommendations were great. We ate at the number one restaurant in Santa Fe on this list a few days earlier and our party of 4 agreed hands down that Martin was much, much better. Martin's is in our top 5 restaurants in the world."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary and dressed up a bit forgetting that in Santa Fe anything goes. My husband had the tuna and thought it was excellent. I ordered the veggie tasting platter and was very pleased. The flavors in each offering were spiced perfectly. And the desserts were very well done. Strawberry shortcake for him and a deep, rich, melty chocolate cake for me. We will certainly return. 4 stars"

  • "Please just try this award winning restaurant. It is kind of tough while they go through renovations. Amazing free parking at the State Parking lot 1/4 block away: Saves your car from dust. The fish tacos, the salmon BLT sandwich, the romaine lettuce salad with chicken. You cannot go wrong with Martin."

  • "Restaurant Martin was excellent! We discovered thus gem last year for lunch and had dinner this past week. Our server was knowledgable and engaging. The wine was great and the appetizers were well conceived and delicious. I had the lobster app and it was great. Our dinners were delicious as well and we each had dessert as well."

  • "We chose Restaurant Martin on the recommendation of a friend. The menu is terrific and fit for foodies everywhere. Our selections' preparation and presentation were excellent. The ambience in the restaurant left quite a bit to be desired. We were confronted with a heavy "fishy" smell when we first walked in after navigating the smoking staff at the entrance. These affronts quickly dissipated as we became accustomed to it. The restaurant attempts to present a contemporary look and feel but falls well short of matching the quality it presents in its menu. For example, there are no tablecloths. (A small issue to be sure.) Overall, when you look past the weak ambience....the menu is worth experiencing."

  • "Enjoyed Martin for lunch a couple days ago...we had always gone for dinner. A nice small selection including a salmon blt that was scrumptious! Very good squash soup as well with excellent consistency. Great for quiet and enjoyable lunch!"

  • "What I hear many times is how service is a thing of the past--not so at Restaurant Martin. Our server was responsive, kind, met our needs and wants before we even knew we had them! Add this to wonderful food and you have the recipe for a wonderful meal out!"

  • "Restaurant Martin never disappoints. When we visit Santa Fe, we return again and again for a creative fresh flavorful meal and great service. The Hamachi appetizer took sashimi to another level (think kumquats, orange zest, soy caviar). New Zealand bass entree crisped on the outside and moist inside was a delight. Pork tenderloin served with pork belly more great flavors and very tender. Plus compared to LA for the food and wine prices are quite reasonable! A Gem."

  • "From beginning to end, a great experience. Owners greet you, wait staff very knowledgable and the service top notch. But the food is the highlight, fresh, beautiful, and a flavor explosion. The appetizers as good as the entrees and the deserts a great conclusion. If you are looking for the top restaurant in Santa Fe, this may be it."

  • "The food was disappointing compared to menu descriptions. The beet salad was beautiful but small & lacking in flavor. My filet was just a filet & the potato dish that accompanied it was flat in flavor and texture. The description of the chocolate cake was mouthwatering, however, the texture was spongy & flavorless. The ice cream that accompanied the cake was delightful. The portions are small but more in line with what actual servings should be. It should be noted that this restaurant does not serve liquor. My husband is a connoisseur of fine bourbon & was disappointed to learn that only wine or beer were options. Our waitress was exceptional. She was extremely professional & attentive. The ambience was lovely and quiet."

  • "My husband took mr here for my birthday and it was the perfect evening. I had the duck and he had the tenderloin and they were both magnificent. We live in Cochiti Lake NM so when we venture into town to dine and spend some money on said dining this is what we expect from Santa Fe. Attention tourists - this is the one you won't want to miss."

  • "Restaurant Martin is such an important part of the Santa Fe dining scene! It is so dependably good with a menu that will satisfy any appetite, service that is sincere and professional, and a comfortable place to enjoy a perfect dining experience."

  • "Visited Restaurant Martin for the first time during Restaurant Week. The staff was extremely vegetarian knowledgeable, and the vegetarian sampler plate, which is a menu item, was the most thought-out vegetarian dish I have had in New Mexico! Five small individual dishes served as one entree - it was fantastic! This will definitely be my choice for special occasions!"

  • "Our car battery died as the restaurant was closing. The staff could not have been more helpful and gracious, waiting with us until a cab arrived, well after they had closed. The service was outstanding, the food excellent, and the restaurant a quiet respite in an all too noisy restaurant world."

  • "My husband and I ate at Restaurant Martin for the first time, during Restaurant Week. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. The staff was excellent - attentive without being overbearing, pleasant, knowledgeable and just very nice people. The food was incredible. One thing we noticed is that there are no condiments such as salt or pepper, on the tables. There was no need for them. The food was prepared perfectly. This restaurant has been added to our "favorites" list."

  • "My group of four went to Restaurant Martin for Santa Fe's 2014 Restaurant Week and we thought the preset menu consisted of very good choices. Everyone enjoyed their three course meals. All of the individual plates were aesthetically beautiful and contained almost all of the components you would expect in a well thought out dish."

  • "My wife and I had dinner during Santa Fe restaurant week. It was our first time at the restaurant and we felt the food, wine/wine list and staff were outstanding. In our opinion it is definitely one of the Best restaurants in Santa Fe!"

  • "This was our first dinner at Restaurant Martin and we really enjoyed it. Our waiter was one of the best in the business, providing thoughtful advice on menu selections that definitely steered us to some good choices. The food was delicious; highlights were the beet salad and lamb tortellini starters and the apple tart for dessert. We will return!"

  • "Didn't think I could afford it but Resteraunt Week got me in. Wow ! I will skip two mediocre meals to come back for this. As a vegetarian I was shocked and awed by the choices and preperation. My carnivore date liked hers to btw. Reasonably priced extensive wine list and more than efficient service to. Seriousily, visitors don't miss this. Locals, why aren't we here all the time ?"

  • "This was our third time at REstaurant Martin and we loved everything. Our server was very knowledgable and made excellent selections, The range of vegetarian and meatatarian dishes was vast and it was hard to decide. We started with the Caesar and Butternut Squash Bisque that were both perfectly flavored. Our main courses were the black angus and salmon which were both cooked just right and came with wonderful sides like potatoes and the orange with the salmon was a very nice compliment. And the apple tart was a great way to end another fabulous meal."

  • "Can't figure out which was better, the delicious food or the wonderful service! A very intimate restaurant with knowledgeable friendly staff from the time we were greeted, until the time we left. The chef/owner's wife is available monitoring entire experience with a sincere desire to make sure your dining experience is special. Wonderful little restaurant."

  • "Very well executed dishes. Friendly and competent wait staff. Only complaint is that the spacing of the tables was way too close together and some of the areas, such as where we sat, was very awkward--almost the hallway from kitchen to dining rooms. No table linens also struck us as odd given the sophistication of the food and the prices."

  • "The food is the highlight of the experience, with unbelievably subtle combinations of flavors delicately balanced so as not to dominate. The menu is crafted with creativity and superb choices to suit almost any taste, and each stands out as one-of-a-kind. This is a place to visit over and over again and continues to amaze each time."

  • "We love this restaurant, especially in the summer when the patio is open. The service is fantastic and the plates are flavorful and inventive. Fresh, season, organic. Their truffle mac and cheese is a MUST! Delightful place and we highly recommend it!"

  • "A group of six had a good but not great dinner at Martin. The problem is that they charge prices fit for great. Entrees are $3-4 more per item than comparable restaurants in Santa Fe. I ordered a scallop entree for $34 that was appetizer sized. Delightfully spiced, but the size of the portion was offensive. Lunch is more reasonable but still priced above comparable restaurants. It's quite nice to have lunch on their large patio in spring-summer-fall. But, either dinner or lunch be prepared to pay for the name."

  • "We made a reservation late and were surprised that we could get in at the time requested. When we arrived, there were perhaps 3 other tables being used in the two rooms. The host sat us RIGHT NEXT to one of the other tables for two where we had to move the table and squeeze in between a wall and the back of a chair. It was NOT the best choice, but we both thought that perhaps they would fill up very soon. Well, two other couples showed up at different times and seated at much nicer locations. As we were leaving, the hostess said that she would never have seated us there, but she certainly didn't offer to do anything about it while we were there. So...our fault. We should have asked to be re-seated."

  • "An excellent restaurant in a very unassuming location. The food may be the best in Santa Fe. Surely that is true of the service. This is a place you should try."

  • "Chef Rios has succumbed to his own hype. His food, once innovative and glorious, is now mundane, predictable and banal. Flavors are muddled in multiple ingredients with no top notes or depth. Plating is pretty but in minuscule portions. We complained about grossly over-salted fish and were told that the dish was as the chef envisioned. I normally introduce myself to the chef as a professional courtesy, this time why bother? This was my third visit to this restaurant over the course of three years. I initially hoped the the front and back of the house were simply not yet fully communicating, year two I was told the chef was off that night, this year (year three) I have become resigned to the fact that Restaurant Martin just isn't that good."
