Restaurant Martin offers progressive American cuisine prepared by New Mexico's most noted and award winning Chef, Martin Rios at a most accessible price point. Restaurant Martin was a semi-finalist for the 2010 James Beard "Best New Restaurant in the US" and Chef Martin was a semi-finalist for the 2011 James Beard "Best Chef of the Southwest". Chef Martin's cuisine was recently featured on Food TV's Iron Chef America (the only Chef from New Mexico to ever receive such an invitation), and the Cooking Chnnel's "United Tastes of America". He has also been recognized as the Best Chef of both Santa Fe and the State of New Mexico, featured as one of the National Pork Association's Top Chefs and named one of the select Robert Mondavi Celebrated Chefs. Our first, in late June 2013, was just about perfect - excellent ambience (we ate out on the patio, a lovely space - , wonderful food and great service once the staff got going - but it took them 25 minutes to actually do anything except seat us. This visit, we arrived a little earlier - 7 or so - and the food was as good, the service friendly. However, we ordered aperitifs, kept the wine list to hand,and enjoyed our kids. Then the food was delivered, but before we had ordered the wine. This was quickly corrected, but the gentleman delivering the wine spent 5 minutes chatting with customer he knew. Again, excellent food, but it's expensive, and we expected better service. Don't misread this - we'll be back!"

The desserts were devine. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere beautiful. We sat on the well-appointed patio on a gorgeous Santa Fe evening. Our evening will be well remembered."

  • "The written descriptions on the menu and our waiters descriptions of the specials made it hard to decide what to order - they all sounded amazing. We went with 2 appetizers, the pea soup/shrimp salad, and a tuna tar-tare. Both were beautiful to look at and delicious. Our entrees were the duck and the soft shell crab (a special). Both were light, with delicate flavors and colorful presentations. For desert we went with the sherbert and ice cream samplers which were also light, flavorful and presented like works of art. For the quality of the food, the prices seemed reasonable, especially for Santa Fe. Portions were on the small side, but that is what we were expecting. Overall, we were very pleased and will be back to try other menu items."

  • "Two of our party had the cobb salad and we both felt that it missed the mark. A good cobb salad allows one to get several or all of the ingredients in one bite, as it is the combination of flavors that makes this salad great. The cobb at Restaurant Martin was served on a "crouton" which is actually a slice of brioche toast. The toast has a couple of pieces of bacon and some awkward chunks of grilled chicken on it. Romaine was piled on top of the toast and the meats. The romaine hearts were served as a traditional Cesar would be. This works for a Cesar because there are few ingredients, but does not work well for a cobb. The lemon dressing on the salad was good. Perhaps a better way to change up this classic would be modify the ingredients."

  • "While the chef is very creative and the preparation and execution are excellent, the conceptions are just too complicated with too many ingredients. No simple elegance here. An entree or dessert would be perfectly prepared but surrounded by innumerable accompaniments that distracted from the central flavors. The server also was distracted. At a restaurant of this level, the server should have paid closer attention to when wine needed to be poured, when empty glasses from a previous bottle should be removed, and when the water bottle should be refilled. We are locals and probably will not return soon."

My seafood creation included halibut, dill, green grapes, Thai dumplings, butternut squash, and more awesome things I can't remember. It was as beautiful as it was sensual. I started the evening with the Blue Lump Crab Cakes. The dish was transcendent; I was in love with it. Like, emotions welled within me after the first taste. I finished the night with a delicious muscadet. The staff was extremely attentive and considerate. I was impressed by their attention to detail and dedication to my positive dining experience. They were happy to accommodate last minute reservation changes (on a weekday) and made fantastic meal suggestions."

Halibut was the evening special. Mine was a little overcooked. Someone else's was cold. Not sure what that was all about. But the duck was amazing, the lamb was divine. This is a wonderful restaurant. Not for you if you are on a budget. Note the number of $$$$ and believe them. But it was a special dinner for an out of town guest. I would come back in a heartbeat. No one rushed us to leave. Service was very good. A few times our waiter was gone for a while but really not an issue because we were talking. "

We have only been to Santa Fe twice, and each time have spent lovely evenings discovering some of the wonderful restaurants there. The staff was extremely courteous, the food tasty and unique, and the wine recommendations were enjoyed tremendously. We would be honored to return there and bring friends. (Of note, we ate outside on the patio - our choice. It was a beautiful evening and quiet even though there were approximately 6 or 7 other tables filled also.)"

  • "My husband & I recently enjoyed a very lovely dinner at Restaurant Martin. I always prefer outdoors dining (plenty of that at Restaurant Martin) but it was a very warm day so we opted for an inside table with cool a/c. Our server was prompt & attentive giving us plenty of time to linger over our wine before starting dinner. We enjoyed Caesar salads (light, crisp, very flavorful) and I ordered the Tuna Tartare appetizer while my husband had the beef. Both plates were extremely beautifully present, preparation impeccable, full of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, absolutely delicious. And my husband ordered choc cake (delish) for dessert & we had 2 capuccinos (perfect). Perfect proportions so you can enjoy every course. Loved it!"

  • "Disappointing. My chicken tasted like it had been precooked. The halibut special that a nearby diner had, smelled quite fishy as it was being delivered. Too many of the dishes had extra ingredients that were not necessary. I don't need fancy foam and pureed vegetables added to my meal. The new building doubles the size of the restaurant but it lacks any charm. I felt like I was sitting in a converted garage. There were overhead doors (like garage doors) that overlooked the kitchen door. Tables were too close together to offer any privacy. I could hear my neighbors' conversation the entire night. I hate to criticize fine dining establishments and creative chefs but this place is off our list."

  • "In this small city with many good restaurants, Restaurant Martin stands out. The menu is very creative and unique. The food presentation is outstanding. The service is very familiar with the menu and how the food is prepared which adds to the meal. When the weather is nice, there is a wonderful backyard patio to dine outside. With our last visit we enjoyed the tuna tartar, the pork belly appetizer, the vegetarian tasting menu, and the seared tuna. All were delicious."

  • "We had lunch on the patio and had a wonderful server who knew the food, the wine and was happy to give us recommendations for other places we might enjoy while in Santa Fe. I had the crab cakes which were served on greens with cherry tomatoes, bacon and sautéed mushrooms. There was a red chile cream with it. Lots of different flavors but they worked. My husband who is always in search of the best fish tacos loved the ones he had at Restaurant Martin. That day it was halibut which they cut into small bite size chunks and deep fried. Each piece waS crisp and crunchy. We would definitely eat here again when next in Santa Fe "
