  • "We were in Sante Fe sightseeing and taking in the cuisine of the region. The dishes here at La Plazuela were New Mexican and Southwestern inspired specialties, just what we were looking for. Tamales and enchiladas were savory and smothered with cheese and sauces of the region. The delicate green and bolder red chile sauces were truly delicious. The hominy and bean side dishes were very good, as well. Our server, Ian, was very attentive and had been the bartender here for several years. He recommended a jalapeño margarita that was very interesting with the bite of pepper and a great accompaniment to my meal. The decor is delightful with all the surrounding panes of glass painted with a southwest or American Indian motif. Must do."

  • "Unfortunately, we only tried the guacamole appetizer and two margaritas. When we asked if everything was in the menu, we were told "Yes". When it came time to order dinner, we ordered the Elk and were told "oops, we don't have that tonight". This plate was the reason we went there. Obviously, we left and had dinner somewhere else. Give it a try, but confirm up front that they have what you want to eat before ordering anything!"

  • "Food and drinks were good, but not exceptional. Margaritas were small and expensive for what we got. There are better options for drinks and service within a couple of blocks walk. The old hotel still provides a great atmosphere, if for nothing more than the history. We specifically were there to see Syd Masters & The Swing Riders in the lounge. They are ALWAYS TERRIFFIC entertainers. The bar scene - especially the dance floor - simply lit up and was continually packed with folks enjoying great Cowboy music mixed with some traditional favorites. I still am wondering why Open Table did not give us any Dining Points for using them to book our reservation at this establishment."

  • "I have been to La Plazuela many times and have always loved everything about it! The food is always amazing...until tonight! I ordered the salmon with risotto and the salmon was raw and the risotto looked like mush! It was so overcooked it looked like mushy oatmeal. Very sad! I always order their mexican food but tonight I thought I would get salmon. My husband had mexican and it was good but cold. His food was not hot...barely warm. I think they had an off night due to a storm knocking out the electricity for three hours before dinner time. I hope that was the reason for the bad food. I will give them another chance on our next visit to Santa Fe! I'm rooting for them!"

  • "We discovered La Plazuela on our first trip to Santa Fe about 10 years ago. Each time we return to Santa Fe we make it a point to dine there at least once during our stay. We were with family this time and raved about how much they would enjoy the experience. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the restaurants standards because of the food. The service was good, the tableside guacamole and the margaritas were delicious. However, the main course meals were very poor. The menu has changed significantly since our last visit, too. Too many American items, not enough traditional Sante Fe choices. Each of our meals were dry and somewhat tasteless. We have recommended La Plazuela to many in the past but no longer. What happened?"

  • "I had to wonder if there was a change in the kitchen as the food was less than stellar on the night we were there(5/17). The salmon was raw in the center and the risotto gloppy. The elk was tough and even though it is a game meat, there are ways to prepare a more tender presentation. While we were there we saw two dinners sent back by diners near us. We shared flan for dessert, good but slightly grainy. On the plus side our waitress was great, on point and personable. She was busy "putting out fires" and stilled maintained a positive attitude. Great setting with charming decor. Sadly we won't be likely to be back to give them a second chance."

  • "My stepmother and I ate there for last dinner together in Santa Fe. The ambiance is charming. The service was excellent. And the server gracious even though we were economy minded. We ate off of the New Mexico cuisine portion of the menu, which was less expensive. Recommend going to the rooftop bar for sunset before or after dinner."

  • "The food was not he quality that I'm used to at La Fonda. Just call it a not so good night. The steak in the fajitas was overcooked and a little burnt and the vegetables were mushy. It is evident that the meal was basically overcooked. The sopapillas were overdone and were hard and to be honest it was like eating bread. Overall though the experience was great. Have been there several times and will not stop going because of this. Just hope it improves if I order Fajitas again. The steak should be tender not overcooked to beyond well done and the vegetables should be cooked but not overly so. There should be some substance to them in my opinion. Thanks for the great service still love you guys. "

  • "My mom and I enjoyed this gem for our last night in Santa Fe. We were seated right next to the fountain. The seats were comfortable, but it was a bit challenging to hear for my older mom. I don't know if it was the sound of the water or the distance across the table. The food was very good. We split the pork carnitas tacos (with jicama/carrot slaw) and the chicken enchiladas. The "made fresh at the table" guacamole was divine. My only disappointment was that the waiter came to take our order in the middle of the presentation. We basically missed seeing the guacamole made in front of us. Dessert was excellent. I loved the "mini" shot of vanilla bean mousse. It was significantly larger than expected. My mom loved the caramel sea salt gelato. "

  • "Our experience at La Pazuela was delightful. We arrived early for our reservation, and the restaurant was not open yet. We sat in the lobby of the hotel, and enjoyed "people watching". We were seated as soon as the restaurant opened, and were seated next to the fountain. Our wait person was friendly, helpful and efficient. She gave us suggestions about the menu and her ideas provided us with excellent dinners. Our tacos (fish and vegetarian) were excellent; innovative and delicious. We will definitely return the next time that we visit Santa Fe."

  • "We had breakfast and a dinner at La Plazuela and both meals were satisfactory. Nothing really stands out...I felt as if we were eating in an afterthought, it's hard to explain. If you wanted to try the restaurant I would recommend going for lunch and saving dinner for other locations."

  • "The atmosphere of this historical property was beautiful. The restaurant staff was very personal and professional. My guest and I arrived early for our reservation and seated immediately. Service was timely. My shortcoming of the dining experience was the quality of the 'end-cut' of that nights prime rib special. It was mostly fat and very tough. It was hard o chew and two-thirds was eatable. My guests prime rib was fine. I was asked not to say anything."

  • "This beautiful restaurant is a feast for the eyes and the essence of Santa Fe. It was a busy spring-break Monday night when we were there. There were lots of youngsters about and everyone seemed happy. Just to try something different, I ordered the "Vegan Brisket" but I can't recommend it. It was an experiment, but for the future I'll return to their yummy New Mexican food. Mmmm, fajitas. My husband had salmon which was quite good. We had guacamole prepared table side and that was a nice treat. We'll be back."

  • "This was one of the several visits we made to the restaurant. We were seated promptly as we had reservations. Our waiter, Angel was very attentive and prompt. Dinner: beef filet and prime rib consisting of a dollop of yukon gold mashed and spaghetti squash. The filet was well prepared and flavorful. The prime rib tasted precooked and rewarmed. Advertised as a 12 oz portion consisted of at least 6 oz of fat. The spaghetti squash was drowned in the sauce of the prime rib and lacked flavor on its own merit. A requested "very dry martini" was awash in excessive vermouth and a small serving in a large cocktail glass. Red and white wines were very good but again in small serving sizes. Overall the meal was adequate, but not memorable."

We expected it to be much pricier than it was, being inside the historic La Fonda Hotel, but it was very reasonable. Our waitress was awesome! We found out she'd worked there 28 years! That always speaks well of a restaurant when their staff are so loyal and speak so highly of it. We would certainly recommend it to others!"
