Diner Reviews
  • "When we return to Santa Fe, a meal (or two or three) at la Casa Sena is a must. Dine in its historic building or the spectacular courtyard. The servers are professional, knowledgeable, relaxed and uber-friendly without any pretentiousness. And the food? Delicious! Start with guacamole or any of their special soups. We have enjoyed the following dishes: ruby trout; eggs Benedict; the burger; salmon; BLT; the pancake-waffle-French toast combination; and their fresh cut fries, both regular and sweet-potato. Desserts are sublime: I don't remember specific names, but there's a banana cream puff that's divine and a chocolate mousse/cake in a cup with whipped cream and blackberries. Very simple, but the memory of it makes me smile."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary, we arrived a few minutes early. They were eager for us to be there. Dining was great, food was excellent. Thank you!!"

  • "We had a pleasant and delicious brunch we had on Sunday after church. It was a delightful and wonderful dining experience. The trout was out of this world and serving it on spaghetti squash, was fabulous. Thank you Casa Sena for another memorable occasion. Sincerely, Hollis and Candace Fitch"

  • "food mediocre. enchilada thin and too much cheese and little flavor. Beans should have at least some salt. avocado dip was very good--it was the highlight of the meal."

  • "Everything was fantastic,...better than expected. The food was delicious and original, our waiter was right on, and the atmosphere is soothing, So glad "the Shed" was closed on Sunday night or we would have missed out on this wonderful experience. Thanks for the great all around dinning experience."

  • "We were disappointed. The menu was as if they we trying to decide who they are. Wine list average and out of the one we originally settled on. I hope this is not a sign of what will happen in the future. No outside dining this time of year and that may have made of for some of the rest."

  • "The food at La Casa Sena is wonderful. Flavors on traditional entrees are turned up and distinctly good. It has a beautiful atmosphere and is located conveniently near the plaza in Santa Fe. Great place to eat in Santa Fe."

  • "Staff was very friendly, we had exceptional service while dining at this restaurant. The chicken enchiladas where THE best I have ever had in my entire life! This is our second dining experience at this restaurant. We will definitely make it a regular stop while in Santa Fe and highly recommend it to all family and friends."

  • "food was not as good as expected; I had a steak, kinda tough, it was not the best restaurant I ate at in Santa Fe"

  • "Food was unexceptional. Atmosphere funeral-like. Seems a dying restaurant -- at least at night."

  • "La Casa Sena is a must for anyone looking for the Santa Fe experience. Sure, you need to try some of the New Mexican cuisine at the usual places. La Casa Sena is for those looking to have a true dining experience. The food is delicious, and actually quite reasonable for Santa Fe standards. The ambiance both inside and in the courtyard are perfect for enjoying brunch or lunch. A quick walk to the plaza makes this the ideal location to start your day."

  • "We went at night so I can't speak for brunch or outdoor eating. The bar was amazing, with talented performers. Dinner was great, fantastic food and wine pairings."

  • "A year ago we had such a great time here, it is sad that tonight, on Valentine's day, the waiter was so absent and distracted. The appetizer and dessert was mediocre, however the entree was excellent. We did not receive the dinner rolls/bread until it had been requested three times and then was served with the entree."

  • "The food was very good as expected. The problem was the place was stuffed. Too many people, too close together and too hot. I understand it was Valentine's weekend. But, the waiter had an attitude and the service was terrible."

  • "Dined there twice in the past month. It was great the first time (high season) with attentive service and excellent food (notables include the goat cheese croquettes, the scallops and a quinoa vanilla custard). A bit disappointing the second time with brusque, uninterested service and a completely bland special (overcooked sea bass in a tasteless pesto sauce). In a busy season, this can be a great place to dine."

  • "I have been a big fan of the La Casa Sena Wine shop for over a decade and have only eaten at the restaurant once before 10 or 12 years ago, but this past Saturday night dinner, a special occasion for my wife and I was a bit of a let down. It was glitz without content. While I enjoyed the presentation of my meal, the pork tostada, it was a rather bland experience and the garnish, pickled bell peppers, onions and jicama was not a pleasant addition. I was surprised that the only flavor to the pork was the red chili, which was quite bland itself. Upon entering the restaurant the smell of old fish was off-putting killing any chance of ordering the sea bass special. To top it off the butter for the rolls tasted old and stale."

  • "We were a group of 5, and while the restaurant is comfortable and the service was great, the food was just okay. The mushroom tamale had nice sauteed mushrooms inside, but the tamale itself fell apart and was very bland. The calamari was also bland and there was no spicey red sauce served with it. One of us had the green chili hamburger, which was good, but nothing to rave about. The enchiladas were also too bland. Maybe we were just looking for more taste, spice, and flavors. The waiter was very attentive and they had a wonderful wine list. Dessert was actually pretty good."

  • "Having had amazing dining experiences at this restaurant in the past, this last experience was a let-down. Food was uninspired the whole ambiance felt tired. My fish, the night's special, was rubbery. The hanger steak was average, without any unique flavor."

  • "We ate all over Santa Fe during our stay and La Casa Sena was by far our favorite restaurant in Santa Fe! The wine list has 2000 different wines! The menu has a variety of choices, sure to please all! There's a roaring fireplace! And the staff is hardworking, attentive and not to mention, beautiful! What more could you ask for?!"

  • "I felt like the food we ate here was some of the best we have had all across the country. The service was great. The setting was lovely. We have a small child who ate with us and we had no problems. There was a kid's menu. This is a quiet and charming restaurant. .It would make a romantic date spot. I would recommend this to anyone as a must go to place."

  • "Our New Year's Eve dinner was AMAZING! We opted for the a la carte menu, as we had party plans for later in the evening, and the two items we chose were cooked perfectly, priced reasonably, and served quickly. I love Casa Sena and plan on visiting again soon!"

  • "I attended La Casa Sena for a special New Year's Eve dinner and was very disappointed. I had a 8PM reservation, however the restaurant was not prepared for our arrival. We (along with several others) waited for 30 minutes before we were seated. We all ordered the 5-course fixed menu with the wine pairings. On several courses the wine was served well after the food, and our server could not even tell us what type of wine they were serving. My main (venison) came out nearly raw - I had to send it back TWICE. The dessert - 'lemon glee' - had a tart was extremely sour and unpleasant. Because of the poor service, they did give me 50% off the meal. The other courses were generally good - there is a lot of potential."

  • "Great place in Santa Fe for modern/contemporary southwestern American food."

  • "I have eaten here many times-usually during the spring or summer because their patio is enchanting. The food is consistently good. I ate lunch there two days ago with my family. They raved about the enchilada plate and the salmon. I unfortunately chose poorly: an unexceptional caesar salad and a green chile stew which was actually a thin weirdly flavored broth (like Claude's brisket sauce?) with tough meat (undercooked?). When I told my waitress, she immediately replaced it with another entree, no questions asked. La Casa Sena is one of my favorite Santa Fe restaurants-just don't order the green chile "stew." And visit when the weather/season permits patio seating."

  • "Made reservations for Christmas dinner. La Casa Sena did not force you into a pre fix menu which was nice. It was a beautiful place with a wonderful fireplace. Warm and cozy, perfect for Chrstmas day. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. Would go again, and again."

  • "More ambience than great food. The bar is high for pricey Santa Fe food. But in the winter the beautiful old rooms are as nice as the patio is in summer. Restaurant only. Belted broadway tunes is for a limited audience which doesn't include me!"

  • "La Casa Sena is my very favorite restaurant in a city known for its wonderful eating places. However, on my most recent visit on Christmas Day, 2013, I had a disappointing experience. In the past, all the food's been wonderful, but on this visit, my companion's salad was just OK, and the dessert wasn't good at all. Both entrees were very good, but I'm accustomed to "superlative" from this restaurant."

  • "The presentation of the food was very poor. The side dishes were terrible."
    Dined on 12/24/2013
  • "The food was so awful that everybody around us was sending they're food back! It was the Christmas Eve dinner and they cramped the place for all that it was worth, you could barely walk. The food look and tasted reheated, not made fresh to order. It was to say the least very disappointing, and on top of it very expensive. A Restaurant that wants to be first class, but displays such a bad business attitude is not worth visiting!"

  • "We were very unhappy with the quality of food. My husband ordered the Hanger Steak plate because the waiter told my husband it was prime rib steak.....it was not prime rib. My chicken tasted like boiled chicken. We had eaten there 5 years ago and loved the food. We were so disappointed in the food and also the wine selection. We requested 3 different bottles before they finally had a bottle that we liked. Do not put it on the wine selection if you don't carry it! Our waiter was fair. It's very expensive for what you get. Will not go back!"

  • "As relatively new residents of Santa Fe after living in NYC for 30 years, we've been a bit frustrated by our new city's mostly limited and overpriced wine lists. Thank goodness for La Casa Sena! Finally a list that is extensive, creative, and dotted with exciting wines at more or less reasonable prices. We will become regulars for that alone, but the food was also delicious and creative and the atmosphere is lovely. Service was slightly unpolished but we'll take friendly and earnest over "attitude" any day. A wonderful experience and a Santa Fe classic."

  • "La Casa Sena came recommended by local friends and it didn't disappoint. The service was attentive without being overbearing. We had some younger kids with us which can throw some wait staff off, but our waiter was great and took all of that in stride - working with us to find something the kids would like. Great margaritas to start and one of the most impressive wine lists I've seen anywhere - some hard to find gems there. The goat cheese croquettes were delicious, the mushroom tamale was good, but a little dry. I had the rib eye special which was cooked perfectly and went very well with the Rioja we ordered. I think that the best dish ordered at our table was the scallops with an amazing red chile sauce - yum! Will definitely go back!"

  • "Definitely worth visiting. All four of us enjoyed our selections, service was pitch perfect, we had a cozy round table by the fireplace on a cold night, and the wine list was very impressive!"

  • "Very quiet, and a perfect place to go to meet up with friends and a great romantic place. The food was great, the wait staff very pleasant and efficient. We always try to go here when we want a quiet holiday dinner and this proved to be the case this time again! Price is very good for the quality of the venue."
