Diner Reviews
  • "The pastry chef did the best job that night. Everything else was not so great. Prawn dish tasted like I was eating tires.... it was over cooked. The appetizers were not good either, the crispy rice tasted cold with oil soaked it the center as if it was waiting for us for awhile."

  • "Koi is a place where you can order anything and everything on the menu and you would be amazed by how good it is! I have tried everything and every time I visit I order too much because I do not want to miss anything. The bar tender can also surprise you with new cocktails if you ask for something special. My experience at Koi is always perfect!"

  • "We LOVE Koi. The sushi is amazing, the service is always good. Try the baked crap hand roll and the "She's so LA" roll. The rock shrimp tempera is always perfect. They don't over do it on the sauce or the frying so it's perfect. Our ONLY complaint is that they allow smoking in the courtyard in the front of the restaurant and it's really gross to have to walk through that and then the second hand smoke filters into the bar area which is equally or maybe more gross. This is why I did not give them a 5 star rating on ambience, otherwise...everything is great."

  • "Koi was perfectly classic and the atmosphere was perfect for our gathering of 6 people over dinner. The drinks and food were amazing, the staff were beyond helpful and the ambiance perfect. Took 2 adults & 4 teens and this was a hit with all of them. could not have asked for a better night."

  • "The Service was excellent. A greta wiater and the drinks were outstanding (Great Bar Person). The cost however was a little over the top. But in the end one can say it was worth the price."

  • "My second time visiting Koi and it was even better than the first. This ranks with the best sushi I have had in NYC, SF, and Japan. Simply fabulous and priced reasonably for the outstanding quality."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "so great. we sat in the lounge for happy hour 1st which was very reasonably priced. spicy tuna on crispy rice and kobe pot stickers were both fantastic. so was the sake infused melon concoction. we then went into the dinner area and had some sushi. i forget what it was but yumm!!!"

  • "Always a positive experience, great food (the crispy rice is amazing), great atmosphere and a nice evening out with friends. The staff and service are impeccable. They're quick to keep things moving and assist as needed. Between NYC and LA, this is by far, consistently the best Koi experience."

  • "Superb food that's great quality but not crazy exorbitant (and LA restaurants can be!). A bit too dark perhaps but otherwise great"

  • "Loved the food, the set up, and the service. Was not happy with the reservations though. While making reservations for a celebratory dinner, I was given 2 options, 6 PM and 9:15 PM. I wasn't thrilled, but what could I do? I chose the 6 PM. I arrived at the restaurant promptly at 6, doors locked, no other customers waiting. Finally the doors opened, 10 minutes later, we're the first ones in, did have amazing service and food, truly fantastic food, and by the time we left, at 8 PM, the restaurant was still at least half empty. Explain to me why my choices for reservation time was either 6PM or 9PM. Absolutely ridiculous and unfair. "

  • "Overpriced and boring! This place was dead and the food was just okay. The sushi was average and I felt that Koi is on the way out. It is a good place if you have no reservations and everything else is booked!"

  • "I've been going to Koi for years and took a friend for her first time to celebrate her birthday. The food was still excellent but the service was lackluster. Servers other than our waiter simply dropped food at our table and left and our waiter never showed up to explain what we were eating. This would have helped as we ordered a number of items and weren't really sure exactly which dish we were eating. Not a big deal and I'd go back, but the place has unfortunately lost it's lustre a little. It seems I'm not the only one to notice this slide, as not only was it not packed, but it wasn't even that busy. "

  • "While others have noted that this is not the best sushi and Japanese in L.A., it is a great night out with warm service, very good food, and a nice buzz in the restaurant throughout the meal. We sat at the sushi bar and the maitre d', the server and the sushi chef were all very friendly throughout the meal. The pacing of the dishes was perfect, without either waiting too long or being rushed at any point. An all-around enjoyable evening."

  • "I just didn't like the fact that they made us wait 50 min at the bar to spend $85 on just drinks. The sushi was fresh and tasty but the wait really killed it - 50 min, are you kidding me?"

  • "If your looking for a great sushi house with out of this world service this is the place to be."

  • "The food is OK, nothing special about it. There are few dishes that are very good, the rest are just OK. The ambiance is good. I have been there few times, service it hit or miss. The last experience wasn't that great. Our server was not friendly at all."

  • "Everything about our recent dinner at Koi was embarrassingly bad. And might I add overpriced. For a $300 dinner I would expect at least to be full- we ate somewhere else after. The server was constantly confused when we asked where certain dishes were that never arrived, he kept running back and forth to the kitchen to figure it out. The food was flavorless and over priced. The menu is exactly the same as far as specialty dishes as Katsuya or Sushi Roku and the sushi is WAY better at Izakaya and a 1/3 of the price. Shame, Koi used to be so good. But we will not be returning."

  • "We were there for our friends birthday and had good service when it came to the food and drinks. After we were getting ready to leave, the manager accused one of our guests of throwing a rock through the window. After looking at security footage, it was no one in our party. I just think they handled the situation poorly."

  • "I've been going to Koi for years and the food is always good and the drink are solid. On Valentines, day, the service was particularly excellent, and there was staff there at ever turn to take care of us or to clear our table which is a big issue with me. I loved it that the moment we were done with a dish, they were there to grab it and take it away. The restaurant isn't the hot spot it used to be, but they keep churning out consistently good food, so there's no reason for you not to go if you want some solid sushi and a place to hang out with your friends for a nice night."

  • "This was my first time at Koi, and I had high expectations which were not disappointed. The spicy yellowtail and truffle avocado crispy rice appetizers were stunning - perfect texture combinations, with flavors that were both bold and nuanced - and the little lobster tacos were also amazing, with superb presentation and execution. The seared albacore with crispy onions was decent (each individual ingredient was tasty, but the overall effect was that the albacore seemed smothered and overwhelmed by the sauce and the onions.) My sister and I both had the Chilean sea bass, which was excellent as well - generous, buttery, flaky and delicious. The caramelized pear crepe dessert was also scrumptious - overall, a really excellent meal!"

  • "Great Restaurant!! Everytime i'm in Los Angeles i try and have dinner or lunch there. I like the fact that the management team doesn't have a high turnover. It's always pleasant seeing a familiar face when preparing to dine. My FAV dishes 1. baked Crab Roll 2. Miso Eggplant Crispy Rice."
