Diner Reviews
  • "The atmosphere, staff, and food were all excellent. The restaurant staff went out of their way to make sure every part of our dining experience was perfect!"

  • "Food was OK, expected better. Fish was a little overcooked. Very pricey for what you get."

  • "When we got there the restaurant was very busy and they were able seat us within 1 minute of our reservation. That set the tone for the rest of the evening. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions on the menu since he had tried all of the items on the menu. The fish we all had was wonderful with Ahi being way over the top. We would all go back again in a heartbeat."

  • "First off, I must say my father and I were very impressed by how considerate the manager (Kelly) was at JAX. Although the entire staff was very likable. We had a reservation, and because they did not have our table ready in an appropriate time (approx 30 min delay),she offered to buy us a round of drinks and an appetizer. Upon finishing Kelly had not only paid for one round of drinks and an appetizer, she took care of two rounds of our wines and an appetizer. This really communicated to my father and I how JAX prioritizes happy guests with their overall experience here."

  • "Our visit to Jax's started with the Buttermilk Bread. It was crispy on the outside, almost the texture of a pretzel, and melted in our mouths. We couldn't get enough of the whipped honey butter it was served with. Next were the Emersum Oysters. We tried both kinds, charbroiled and fried. The fried one were crispy without being greasy and perfectly plated on a bed of sea salt. For the main course, we had Grilled Ahi and Pan Roasted Trout. The pickled hearts of palm with the Ahi were crunchy and had notes of ginger. The maple bacon and root vegetables with the Trout was outstanding- crunchy, complex flavors. Of course both pieces of fish were cooked perfectly. The tuna had a beautiful deep purple inside, while the trout had a crunch skin."

  • "asked for a quiet location and put in front of a speaker. Too noisy but good seafood. Halibut was wonderful"

  • "My wife and I came here for our third anniversary and were very impressed. It is such a fun atmosphere with outstanding food. We showed up almost an hour early for our reservation and still had no issue being sat right away. Being land locked, good seafood can be very expensive, but Jax was still reasonably priced. We will be returning again in the future. Two thumbs up!"

  • "Went to Jax with girlfriends. It was so hot in there, and eating seafood while in a stuffy hit room is never good. The service was great, and we were taken care of. I think the food was just okay. Pretty expensive. My girlfriend got oysters and it was over $4 per oyster! So expensive! And she said it wasn't that good. I had the lobster roll and the melon salad which was good. Also the bread with honey butter is worth the $3. When did restaurants start charging for bread though?! This restaurant is just a 3 star rating. Probably won't go back"

  • "Great food, and lot of hidden gems on the menu that are not seafood items."

  • "Our top pick for downtown restaurants! GREAT atmosphere and excellent service."

  • "We visited Jax earlier in the week for happy hour. Tonight we dined there. We had wonderful oysters, shrimp boil, and the steamed crabs. Ahhhh--everything was so wonderful! Our waiter was wonderful and the other wait staff were great as they kept our glasses filled and fresh warm towels ready for us. We will definitely be back next time we are in Denver!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience here. We sat at a little table right next to the aquarium. We were somewhat struck by the noise level at first, but it was a Friday night and the place was hoppin'! Jose was our server, and he was excellent: attentive but not hovering. We had the seared trout and ahi tuna, both to die for! Dessert was their newly added bourbon milk and cookies. Heavenly! In sum: great service, great ambiance, and amazing food. Highly recommend!"

  • "This is the second time in 3 weeks that I have been here. The Ahi was great as were the emersum oysters. Service was a bit slow but pleasant."

  • "Been frequenting Jax's for more than 20 years. Some of the best fish on the Front Range. Had a great seafood platter. Ahi Tuna and Halibut was fantastic. Awesome drinks as well. Music and bar adds a perfect vibe. As icing on the cake, providing my twins excellent desserts for their 16th birthday gratis."

  • "Jax Fish House is far from fine dining, and is really nothing more than a bar with overpriced bar food. I was very disappointed with the prices in contrast to the portion size--the muscles were about the size of a fingernail. The oysters were exceptional, but at $3.50 each, much overpriced. As for the interior, the long bar is the focal point with tables packed in against the walls as an afterthought. The bar was so packed at 5PM that people standing at the bar were pressing up against the tables. In short, the incredibly noisy environment coupled with people's posterior ends pressed up against you is very unappealing. Even when dining on overpriced bar food, I expect to do so at my own table without my personal space being invaded."

  • "Jax was a great choice for oysters. Outside dining in summer is especially fine."

  • "Food was outstanding as always. Perfectly prepared ono, fried oysters, crab cakes. Great peel-and-eat shrimp appetizer. Waiter was a bit boorish and condescending; just a bit weird. But that's not been our experience in the past. One thing that is consistent: Jax is very loud. Would go more often if not for the loud 80's music."

  • "Food was very good and creatively served. Small dining area; large bar; quite noisy with young bar crowd."

  • "Excellent food and fun service---chad headed up the team and his banter with husband was an added bonus. As we came relatively early on a Sunday not crowded and not too noisy. Picking up as we left. Definitely recommend"

  • "I brought my uncle here while he was in town for a couple days. He is from Maine and was skeptical of a gosh place in Colorado. He was blown away! He got the steelhead trout dish and told me I should bring him here everytime he's in town. I got a non fish dish in order to keep prices low for the evening, but I wish I'd gotten a fish, even though my pasta was pretty alright (not amazing though). Great dining experience, great waiting staff and awesome wine! If you get there before six, you'll get some nice happy hour options."

  • "Took my wife and friends there for her birthday. She had never had oysters before, the waiter did a wonderful job suggesting a variety for us to try. We enjoyed them very much. Also, they have incredible bread with honey butter. The meals were well presented and cooked nicely. The only critique I have is I felt the entrees were a bit overpriced. It is downtown Denver though, so higher prices can be expected. I would still highly recommend! Seems like a wonderful night spot and a great place for dinner."

  • "We all had the best dinner at Jax. The clam chowder is amazing, the cornbread is so good, halibut and mahi mahi were out of this world. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, a wonderful experience."

  • "Luckily there were just a bunch of friends getting together for dinner. Had I taken customers to this place, I would have been embarrassed. The menu was extremely limited, the food was not good, AND, in a seafood restaurant they bragged about there hamburgers. Absolutely not a place for anything other than a drink and "Cold Bar" seafood."

  • "The restaurant is just a bit loud for us. But, I would return for the crab cake paired with the Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc! "
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "Our server made the evening dinner a better experience then it would have been otherwise. I thought the food was good but certainly not top line. We had good wine selection but googled it later to find out a bottle would typically cost $16.99 we paid $17.00 per glass."

  • "Everything we ordered was exceptionally good. And the service was terrific too. I would definitely recommend Jax to anyone. "

  • "The food was very very good. We had the Poke appetizer and the Buttermilk bread. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi and my wife had the fish and chips. Both meals were excellent! We also had the key lime pie for dessert. Very good key lime pie. The restaurant was VERY VERY loud! The music was turned up so loud that it was difficult to converse with my wife. This is really my only complaint."

  • "I made a reservation for 2 at 5:45 because we had a comedy show to go to and the doors opened at 7pm. We got there and were not sat until 6:10 because of happy hour, which needless to say I was not so happy about. The manager Kelly came over and apologized and bought us a round of drinks. The waiter also gave us the Happy Hour pice for some of our food. I really appreciated how much they wanted to make my experience great. "

  • "Jax is one of our favorite happy hours which usually turns into dinner with friends...but they like to turn and burn tables...I've had menus taken...like the wine and drink list that the table is set with, had 3 wait staff ask in a matter of one minute if we were done, the table completely cleared while we are eating including 1/2 empty drinks or food we are still working on...I find this practice rude. "

  • "No need to go to Landry's (er... M&S) across the street. Hit up this younger, hipper spot for superb seafood. Crowded without being cramped, loud without making you shout, you feel like you're in a popular place. The menu is not vast, but big enough to have a few good choices. Everything we tried was excellent: Staples like crab cakes, chowder, and the exceptional house "emersum" oysters were all executed to perfection. We also had the "salmon belly" special which was a salty piece of fish heaven with an excellent remoulade and delicious early season tomatoes. Sides and desserts were good - the "german chocolate" cake had great coconut icecream and candied pecans, though the cake was a bit too light. Wine list was short but well considered."
