Diner Reviews
  • "Couldn't have asked for better service. We ordered the special, which turned out not to be for our taste. We didn't expect them to comp us for it, but they did and were very nice about it. Everything else was fantastic and would definitely go there again."

  • "Great food, service was very attentive and the place was pretty lively for a Saturday night."

  • "Jax was our first date we made it our first date.after our engagement. We thought Jax would make a bigger deal out of it but it was dinner as usual."

  • "We went there on opening day, forgetting that it was when we made our reservations. Though the restaurant was very crowded we were blown away by the experience! We had oysters to start, which were delicious! Let your server recommend the best to you; they know what they are talking about! I had the Seared Ahi which was melt in my mouth amazing! My boyfriend had the Trout, which he enjoyed very much! I can't believe it took us so long to get here, but now that we've been once, we'll certainly be back soon!"

  • "The service was good, but I was not a fan of the food - it was too.....funky. For a restaurant with the name "Fish" in it, I would have expected a large list of fish to choose from. Instead, you had to pick from oysters, calimari, clams, and other things that not everyone loves. Also, the noise level was extremely loud, and barely any room for the waiters to even take your order at the tables. Definitely will not be back."

  • "My girlfriend and I went for date night. The server was knowledgable of the menu and had no issue with requests for the kitchen since my girlfriend is a vegetarian. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back!!"

  • "Some items were great and delicious. Others were just mediocre at best, which shouldn't be true for the price."

  • "Jax is always one of our favorites. Consistently great food. Noah is the best server on the planet. The only recommendation is to get rid of the tables in the bar with the bar stool on one side. They are too close together and NO one wants to sit on a bar stool at a table for several hours for dinner."

  • "Happy Hours Oysters were very affordable, We also enjoyed oysters with dinner and had a variety and all of them were excellent from different parts of the country. Tuna Poke outstanding almost like sushi but a large portion, Calamari is the larger tentacles and the sauces are very good. I prefer the smaller tentacles but my husband loved it. Steamed shrimp is always good, comes out fresh, not fishy excellent flavor, clam chowder superb and a nice portion, crab cake was excellent again not fish and not too much filler which was nice and a light coating so you enjoyed the crab flavor above all other flavors. German chocolate cake was warm and a little different than we expected but still a very good dessert, we always enjoy our meals"

  • "Met a friend for dinner at Jax. While pricey, their oysters did not disappoint. Although many of the the entree items looked tempting, we chose a more casual follow-up to the oysters and both had a stew and a salad. I am not completely sold on the "kale" craze, but their kale salad was simply fantastic - topped with apples, hazelnuts, Reggiano and just the right amount of dressing. And then, the made-to-order clam chowder (made with shelled clams) was divine. The winner to me - the perfect meal on a blustery night was the bacalao potato stew with tomatoes and peppers. The perfect combination of salty, savory, rich and tart. I would normally not think that a kale salad and fish stew would account for foodie heaven, but that night, it was."

  • "Jax is one of our favorites. Always concerned during restaurant week if service and food will be consistent. Jose our server did a great job timing our courses as some of us ordered off of 5280 while others ordered off of normal menu. Excellent service as always."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Went with another couple who were unfamiliar with Jax and everyone had a great time. It can be load and crowded (it's not very big) but the food was quite good and the service was particularly good. It's not cheap but everyone was comfortable with the amount paid."

  • "Visited downtown. Wanted a "fish restaurant" (date's preference) and hadn't been to Jax. It was restaurant week, so we tried a limited subset of entire menu. Quite good. The star of the show was our waiter. Never intrusive, but always checking up on us. We are both over middle-age, and the noise and close tables were not our cup of tea. (Zero problem, just a little too loud.)"

  • "I had an excellent Korean beef dish with an equally excellent dessert of apple empanadas!"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Jax for Restaurant Week. The mussels and trout were excellent. We look forward to coming back for happy hour to try more of their food while sitting around the big bar area."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "We arrived 30 minutes prior to our reservation, the hostess was able to seat us immediately. (Even on a super busy night!) noise level was high/energetic but not uncomfortable enough that you couldn't hold a conversation. Drinks were well mixed and smooth. We had oysters, clams, mussels. & trout. All were fresh and pleasing to the pallet. And we already have a good idea as to what we will order when we return!"

  • "We had a dinner at Jax during restaurant week and it was good. What made the experience exceptional, however, was the attentiveness of our server, Noah. Even though it was insanely busy, he never rushed us, took time to have polite conversation, make recommendations and checked back on us frequently. When we go back, we will definitely ask to be seated in his area."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "This years 5280 menu was not too appealing, so we ordered off the regular menu"
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "Haven't eaten at a Jax in many years, but the noise level was familiar. I guess that's probably their intent, but it was OK, because we were in a corner and could focus on the 6 of us. Food was great, waitress was wonderful. They were patient, as I kept changing the number of people in the reservation."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "My husband and I came for the 5280 restaurant week and where kind of surprised... We have been for a couple of years now going to different restaurant at the time of this event and dinner is usually sub par. We really enjoyed the menu selection (starting from mussels, I could say these are the best mussels I've tried in Colorado so far... ).."

  • "Can't believe they charged for bread for the Denver Restaurant Week menu should have included it in the three course meal for free. Armando's in Parker is much better. The salad of spinich and anchoives could have had a cheese on it or something way too plain. Small portion of clam linquine for the price. Not likely to try or recommend this place again."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "The food was great but the noise was overwhelming. After we left the restaurant our clothes smelled and had to be aired out."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "So we've been waiting for about 2 yrs to go to Jax downtown Denver and it's fantastic. We literally got the worst table in the entire restaurant, 2-top right in front of the pass through window of the kitchen...but it doesn't matter where you sit, the service/food/atmosphere is awesome! They have a great happy hour from 4-6pm which you can take advantage of no matter where you are in the restaurant. Next time I'll get there early enough though to sit at the expansive bar in the middle of the room where not only cocktails are done, but all the fresh oysters and steam prepared appetizers are made...reminded me of being back east in the Chesapeake Bay area. Absolutely a great place for casual or special occasion...can't wait to go back again!"

  • "Oysters were very good we had a sampling of all the varieties. Wine selection needs some thought. Highballs were well reviewed by my dinner companions."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "Jax never disappoints! You will not find fresher oysters anywhere in the metro area. It's a fun vibrant place to go and their happy hour cannot be beat."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "This restaurant was loud, crowded, and the food was NOT worth the $250.00 bill! It took them over 2 hours to serve our 6 course meal."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We really chose Jax Fish house because Caviar service was something they offered, and we were not disappointed! We enjoyed our meal entirely, and thought the service was great!"

  • "The food was AWESOME. Service was good will be back."

  • "we have really loved Fax in the past but Valentine's night was a food mill. i understand the "busy factor" but the set food selections were bland and relatively mediocre. presentation was good and the staff was as always great but the food experience was just not what we were expecting. we will likely return to Jax but not after we try other fish restaurants and never on a busy holiday with a "set" menu."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Great service and great food. Very busy place, so expect a crowd, which indicates it's the place to be!"

  • "Very good calamari. Maybe best swordfish we've ever had. Sat beside bar but in a booth & very comfortable if a little noisy"
