Diner Reviews
  • "I live in Santa Fe and Il Piatto is one of my favorites. I always recommend it to everyone. I love that they use local products and make wonderful pasta in house."

  • "We spend our Anniversary here because it is quite and romantic and the food is awesome. Great wine selections with moderate wine prices. Chef buys from the local Farmer's Market - can't get any better than that. This time we had local Peach Tart - OMG - next time I'm getting my own!"

  • "I have eaten here numerous times and each time I come away satisfied and looking forward to my next visit. The menu is diverse and the wine list compliments the chef's creativity perfectly. The trout was outstanding."

  • "The food was terrific both in taste and presentation. Would love to dine here every week."

  • "Attentive & friendly waitstaff. Good choices regarding vegan & gluten free dishes. Food very delicious. Lemon chicken had crispy skin & nice veggies with it."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Every time we come, not only is the food cooked to perfection but we always have excellent service. I wish I could remember the names of the waiters we had. They have all been wonderful. We love this place. We'll be back!"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Having the most delicious appetizers and some prosecco at half price was just the beginning to an incredible eating experience. The oyster mushroom manicotti with squash blossom pesto was fantastic. Great restaurant to eat before an evening at the opera."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Although waitress was very helpful and attentive, ink squid with calamari had strange taste. Edit reds was very nice and exchanged for different entree with no additional charge"
    Dined on 8/14/2014
  • "This was a special night so we read reviews to help us choose what restaurant to go to in a town of many fine eateries. From what I read I was expecting a special meal form a top rated chef and restaurant. ‘Ordinary’ is the only word I could think of when it came to what was presented. It was as if the kitchen staff was bored. The waiter, and Maître d on the other hand, were professional, helpful, and they made us feel ‘special,’ while not being obtrusive. We have been to better restaurants in Santa Fe for the food."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "This was a very noisy and crowded environment. Food was not particularly good, even by Santa Fe standards. In my view, Pranzo is a better bet."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "We had reservations, yet in terms of seating us they didn't really go out of their way to provide any options, just seating us at a small 2 person table. Yet not 15 - 20 minutes later, they sat a couple at a large table for 4 when there were other empty 2 person tables. Waitress was efficient but not customer friendly at all. Food took a while to be served after ordering and it was served not by the waitress but apparently by the chef. Not a lot of value for the money we paid. Wine prices are way out of line for actual cost of the wines. The mark-up here was considerable."

  • "This was the first time I ate at this restaurant. I had the pumpkin ravioli which was the best I have ever had. Portion size was perfect. The bread was homemade, warm, and flavorful. I had the bread pudding for dessert which was atypical from any other bread pudding I've ever tasted. Creamy, like a crème Brule and I wished I could have licked the plate afterwards but civility prevailed. This restaurant is an absolutely must choice for a gourmet dinner in Santa fe."

  • "Good food, quiet atmosphere, and convenient early dinner before attending the Santa Fe Opera."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Wonderful food, but loud and service not very friendly."
    Dined on 8/9/2014
  • "A great neighborhood place, it is always good and I could eat there once a week and never get tired of it"
    Dined on 8/9/2014
  • "Had another great meal. Compact but very nice wine list. What we really enjoy is the large list of daily specials which are the produce and other things available locally that day. Only small issue was food delivery a bit fast but many restaurants in Santa Fe get the pre-opera crowd who always want to be served quickly."

  • "We informed our server we were on a tight time frame. We had to continually seek the attention of other servers to get our order. The delay in service during the closing minutes of their "happy hour" caused an expiration of the half off wine at 6 PM...we were seated at 5:40. We objected and the server reluctantly extended the offer. The meal was good...but not what one would call gourmet fare. We were served in time to make our time frame. On the nice side..they did give us a free piece of cake for our 50th anniversary."

  • "The atmosphere was very relaxed, the staff was helpful and friendly and the food was excellent."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "On top of their fantastic food and attentive service, you get the absolute best "deal" on prix fixe in this town! For lunch, it's a three-course for $17, and you can choose two appetizers and an entree if you are not a dessert person...or two desserts if you are. Right in town. Reasonable and wide-ranging wine list. Personal favorites are the grilled calamari, the chicken liver "agre dolce," and the trout filet."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "An overpriced wine list, food portions were small, no bar. I saw only 1 lowly male on the staff (dish washer I think). Maybe a good choice for lunch."
    Dined on 8/7/2014
  • "We were a party of five and all our appetizers were delicious, calamari and Cesar salad was outstanding. The entrees were very good as well. Service prompt and attentive. The only disappointment was the dessert. We ordered the zabaglione, don't order it, is positively awful. Tasted like a horrible pudding and that for $10!!!!! That was not in line with the rest of the meal."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "It took a very long time before anyone even poured us a glass of water, much less took our order. Our dinners were delivered promptly but my pasta was cold. Since the waitress was rarely even in the same room, my husband had to get up and ask the hostess to please find our waitress so that my pasta could be sent back to the kitchen. The pasta was finally returned (by which time my husband had almost finished his meal) lukewarm."

  • "I had previously dined here and was not impressed with the quality of the food then. Recently I was back in Santa Fe and thought I'd give it another try. Our food was okay but my partner's steak was way over cooked. We expected a 'wow' but got a 'ho hum.' Will never go back. On a positive not the dessert was heavenly but it didn't save the meal."

  • "We will return. Enjoyed the early bird prices and the attentive service staff."

  • "After hitting several dinner spots, we tried a late lunch at Il Piatto. It was very busy from noon until the time we arrived for our 2 pm reservation, but we were seated right away. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food is best described as country farmhouse Italian. The prix fixe lunch is a bargain at $16.95 for 3 courses. All the dishes were fantastic: watermelon gazpacho, buratta salad, lemon and rosemary roasted chicken, salmon with mashed potatoes and Silician tapenade; followed by a dessert of sweet marsala zabaglione. Great Italian wines on the wine list. The restaurant serves continuously from lunch through dinner, making it an option for dining at odd times. One of the best meals we had in Santa Fe this year."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. Service, ambience and food are always top notch."

  • "This spot was recommended by Fodors. We had a lovely corner table - very romantic. The menu was creative, enticing and even featured gluten- free gourmet. The pumpkin ravioli with staged brown butter was delightful. The watermelon gazpacho is a must! And it was a surprising good value. We would definitely recommend it and will return again."

  • "Ate at the bar and happened to meet the owner who was doing the same but with the purpose of training his staff. You can see why the place is friendly and has good food - he treated his people with respect and clearly enjoyed helping them learn their trade. It's all about the details and you saw it in the prep and tastes offered with the food as well as the presentation on the plate. The light was low but the message was clear: great food and service on a friendly warm atmosphere"

  • "The great thing about Il Piatto is that it is always good. They've had some items on the menu since they first opened and they are still delicious. The wine was delicious and served by wonderful staff. The one thing I noticed this time is that the pasta dishes had a slight excess of oil. Luckily, the delicious flavors of the sauces and the tender, freshly made pasta overcame my aversion to oily dishes. In all, this was an excellent meal. Thank you, Il Piatto!"

  • "The food here is always very good with a nice menu with lots to chooses from. Lunchtime is nice cause you can choose your own 3 course lunch and it is $16.95. There are usually daily specials, too. Pastas, roast chicken , calamari...it's all good."

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant in SF. This time, "garden salad" was a sad pile of limp greens. Pappardelle entree had maybe six noodles. Duck in duck cannelloni was stringy. Bussers were inept. Waitress offered no comp when we complained about the salad. I am sad."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "Our first time in Santa Fe and our first dinner. Casual restaurant but food was beyond our expectations. We were a party of 4 and everyone was very happy about what they ordered. I had the braised duckling pappardelle and it was delicious! What a nice way to start our vacation!"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "We love going to Il Piatto. This time we brought a large group (family from out of town). Everyone was impressed with the appetizers, meal selections and desserts. We went at lunch time and it is very affordable. We will go again and again!!"
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Everything was wonderful from the grenache to the appetizers and entres. I would have tried the desert but couldn't eat another bite. We love Il Piatto!"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "We had a lovely dinner at Il Piatto. Our waitress was great and the food was tasty. It was crowded and lively with both locals and tourists. There was a problem with our Open Table reservation (the restaurant couldn't find it) but we were able to get a table anyway. Maybe call before showing up? This is a nice downtown spot in Santa Fe."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "Aside from a very surly hostess, who wasn't interested in being at work that day, this was a great dining experience. The Caesar salad was excellent and so was the bread. The waitress was terrific, and my only complaint was a fairly tasteless polenta."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "the experience was very good bordering on Outstanding. Nice atmosphere. Good but not great wine offering, however it was very reasonably priced. I recommend it to our friends who are visiting Santa Fe"
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "Having been to Santa Fe a number of times and dined at lots of restaurants there, Il Piatto remains one of our favorites. The food is always excellently prepared and presented. The service is really warm and friendly which is not something you always find in Santa Fe and the prices are very reasonable. It is definitely worth a visit."

  • "We have always loved this restaurant, but noticed they gave us a special table, and treated us very special as a result of making the reservation thru Open Table!"

  • "Our experience was mixed but generally positive. We first ate here for lunch. Our chicken and trout dishes were delicious. Waitress rather grumpy. Dinner for 4 a few days later - 2 duck dishes, one chicken livers, one prosciutto-wrapped trout. Flavors were delicious but all dishes significantly overcooked. Service good that evening. Would certainly give them another try."
