  • "I have been going here for years and it was really just marginal this time. I won't go back. The polenta with mushroom ragu had a lump of dry polenta and a couple dried up mushrooms. I could make that much better at home. The calamari salad had a one tentacled calamari that was cold and rubbery. Most of the food was not hot enough. The manicotti was fine and the fish was fine but the risotto cake was also a dried lump. All of these things should have much more attention to detail. It's easy to make a good risotto cake and some nice smooth soft polenta in a restaurant. As I said, I've gone here multiple times in the past 20 years and now it's just sad."

  • "This was a special night so we read reviews to help us choose what restaurant to go to in a town of many fine eateries. From what I read I was expecting a special meal form a top rated chef and restaurant. ‘Ordinary’ is the only word I could think of when it came to what was presented. It was as if the kitchen staff was bored. The waiter, and Maître d on the other hand, were professional, helpful, and they made us feel ‘special,’ while not being obtrusive. We have been to better restaurants in Santa Fe for the food."

  • "We had reservations, yet in terms of seating us they didn't really go out of their way to provide any options, just seating us at a small 2 person table. Yet not 15 - 20 minutes later, they sat a couple at a large table for 4 when there were other empty 2 person tables. Waitress was efficient but not customer friendly at all. Food took a while to be served after ordering and it was served not by the waitress but apparently by the chef. Not a lot of value for the money we paid. Wine prices are way out of line for actual cost of the wines. The mark-up here was considerable."

  • "This was the first time I ate at this restaurant. I had the pumpkin ravioli which was the best I have ever had. Portion size was perfect. The bread was homemade, warm, and flavorful. I had the bread pudding for dessert which was atypical from any other bread pudding I've ever tasted. Creamy, like a crème Brule and I wished I could have licked the plate afterwards but civility prevailed. This restaurant is an absolutely must choice for a gourmet dinner in Santa fe."

  • "We informed our server we were on a tight time frame. We had to continually seek the attention of other servers to get our order. The delay in service during the closing minutes of their "happy hour" caused an expiration of the half off wine at 6 PM...we were seated at 5:40. We objected and the server reluctantly extended the offer. The meal was good...but not what one would call gourmet fare. We were served in time to make our time frame. On the nice side..they did give us a free piece of cake for our 50th anniversary."

For lunch, it's a three-course for $17, and you can choose two appetizers and an entree if you are not a dessert person...or two desserts if you are. Right in town. Reasonable and wide-ranging wine list. Personal favorites are the grilled calamari, the chicken liver "agre dolce," and the trout filet."

  • "We were a party of five and all our appetizers were delicious, calamari and Cesar salad was outstanding. The entrees were very good as well. Service prompt and attentive. The only disappointment was the dessert. We ordered the zabaglione, don't order it, is positively awful. Tasted like a horrible pudding and that for $10!!!!! That was not in line with the rest of the meal."

Since the waitress was rarely even in the same room, my husband had to get up and ask the hostess to please find our waitress so that my pasta could be sent back to the kitchen. The pasta was finally returned (by which time my husband had almost finished his meal) lukewarm."

Our food was okay but my partner's steak was way over cooked. We expected a 'wow' but got a 'ho hum.' Will never go back. On a positive not the dessert was heavenly but it didn't save the meal."

  • "After hitting several dinner spots, we tried a late lunch at Il Piatto. It was very busy from noon until the time we arrived for our 2 pm reservation, but we were seated right away. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food is best described as country farmhouse Italian. The prix fixe lunch is a bargain at $16.95 for 3 courses. All the dishes were fantastic: watermelon gazpacho, buratta salad, lemon and rosemary roasted chicken, salmon with mashed potatoes and Silician tapenade; followed by a dessert of sweet marsala zabaglione. Great Italian wines on the wine list. The restaurant serves continuously from lunch through dinner, making it an option for dining at odd times. One of the best meals we had in Santa Fe this year."

  • "Ate at the bar and happened to meet the owner who was doing the same but with the purpose of training his staff. You can see why the place is friendly and has good food - he treated his people with respect and clearly enjoyed helping them learn their trade. It's all about the details and you saw it in the prep and tastes offered with the food as well as the presentation on the plate. The light was low but the message was clear: great food and service on a friendly warm atmosphere"

  • "The great thing about Il Piatto is that it is always good. They've had some items on the menu since they first opened and they are still delicious. The wine was delicious and served by wonderful staff. The one thing I noticed this time is that the pasta dishes had a slight excess of oil. Luckily, the delicious flavors of the sauces and the tender, freshly made pasta overcame my aversion to oily dishes. In all, this was an excellent meal. Thank you, Il Piatto!"

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant in SF. This time, "garden salad" was a sad pile of limp greens. Pappardelle entree had maybe six noodles. Duck in duck cannelloni was stringy. Bussers were inept. Waitress offered no comp when we complained about the salad. I am sad."
