Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was good but the restaurant was WAY too loud; man singing and playing piano. From the moment we walked in the door felt like I was at a concert. I couldn't even hear my parents across the table. As a result everyone in the restaurant is shouting at each other which really brings the volume up. The food was good although I felt my filet was a little over cooked; asked for medium rare, it was pink, yet tender seemed more like a roast flavor vs grilled steak. The smallest steak they have is 10 oz. and I normally eat 6 oz. Due to the noise level I would never return to this restaurant. Plus the quality of the food didn't match up to the price. I've had fabulous meals for a similar price at other restaurants."

  • "The Famous is the restaurant I go to when I come back to Colorado Springs. The Chicago style steaks pack a punch for any heavyweight eater; the marbling is perfect and the steaks are full of flavor. When it comes to the sides you better bring your appetite. Bake potatoes the size of your head, onion rings in a bowl meant for a family salad and mushrooms by the pound. If you can handle it, get a dessert. I had to share mine, but it was well worth it. If your downtown, pass the other steakhouse with a green sign and go directly to then Famous. Bring your appetite, you will need it."

  • "I had heard a lot about this restaurant and I was excited to try it. I enjoyed the food but was disapointed with the excessive amount of salt and the pricing. It seems if you are spending 38 dollars on an entree it should knock your socks off and I have to say it didn't."

  • " Found the restaurant through print adds. Checked out menu and reviews on your website. Our expectations were exceeded. Now looking forward to a visit for lunch."

  • "Noisy on a Saturday night, but the steak is hard to beat!"

  • "A steakhouse is usually not a great idea if you need lunch in a hurry. We were not in a hurry so the wait time was not a problem. The steaks were cooked right the first time, but lacked much in the way of flavor. We both had the NY Strip and they just weren't very well seasoned. They were good quality, but I had to add salt for some flavor. We also had the shrimp cocktail which was very good. I have eaten here for dinner once before and would recommend that option if you want more than the limited lunch menu. Service was ok but did not stand out. The server did apologize several times for how long things took to prepare which actually made us feel like it was taking longer than it would have seemed had she not been so apologetic."

  • "I sat in a cozy booth on the bar side of the restaurant where I could enjoy the view of the entire place & could also see outside. Service was excellent! The steak was wonderfully seasoned & grilled. The onion rings were some of the most delicious I've ever tasted. I wasn't a fan of the hash browns, which were formed in the shape of an inverted cup. They didn't have the customary texture/flavor I like. The dressing served with the spinach salad was a Dijon mustard base & I prefer a sweeter dressing. Server was accommodating & allowed me to order half portions of side dishes."

  • "Busy place on weekend nights. Reservation through open table was honored perfectly and no wait. Table comfortable and adequate room for even the husky member of the party. Greeted quickly and friendly. Service is as fast or slow as you want it. Food??? Everything from Pork belly to crab cake superb. Main course was why we were there. Had three different steaks (not each) and all were perfectly prepared and flavor was outstanding. Desserts were also excellent with the crème brule the winner. Excellent wine list. Only thing that was the least bit annoying is the noise level but high ceilings and the Piano make sound suppression a challenge. Overall 4 7/8 stars (noise only detractor at -1/8). Food and wine and service 5 stars!!!"

  • "Recently took a group of seven from Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA. Everyone was very impressed with the food as well as service. It's fantastic to have a quality steak restaurant here in town that serves upscale food and drinks! Thank you for a great evening."

  • "The steak the one thing they are suppose to know how to do they over cooked all 5 of them in our group. The oyster Rockefeller was great, shrimp cocktail was awesome. But steak ruined! ! "

  • "Arrived at the establishment for a special dinner The good - the ambience was pleasant and the wait staff was accommodating. The BAD! - ugh! the appetizer was tuff and greasy , one of the main courses; Chicken Oscar was a tasteless over cooked and combination of what seemed to be a prepackaged sauce with no seasoning The other was Salmon slightly more palatable but WAY to much salt and did they really need to smother it with additional oil...ughhhhh!"

  • "In an area full of good steakhouses, Famous more than holds its own. The menu is basically steaks with a few alternatives scattered in. Appetizers are good ( try the crab cakes) and selection is broad enough, but not overwhelming. There are wines o'plenty across all prices ranges. The interior is wood and on the dark "Old Colorado" side. It is loud and conversation is difficult. The service was average. Initially we couldn't get the guy to give us a minute, then during the courses, he vanished for extended periods. He was pleasant enough and his recommendations meal and wine wise were on point. We all agreed we'd go again but would attempt to get a table off to the side where conversation would be a little easier."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday dinner. The food was exceptionally good -- fresh, sweet Washington oysters with fresh grated horseradish, wedge salad with blue cheese, tender and tasty filets, sauteed fresh spinach, and a yummy complementary chocolate cake with candle, which was most thoughtful. The staff was personable and attentive and yet not intrusive. The decor is "classic club" with tufted leather, comfortable, semi-circle benches defining the booths, a few tables and chairs, and a long, classic bar area. The restaurant has a feeling of intimacy and warmth, characteristic of some high-end, big-city restaurants. Only negative was that the room was loud with the blended, resonating voices of other diners."

  • "I have been to this restaurant a handful of times and have never been disappointed. Everything from the bread to the dessert is spectacular. Price is comparable to any other steakhouse you will find."

  • "Loud, overpriced, and poor food quality. I ordered mashed potatoes with my steak, and I swear the potatoes were instant straight out of the box."

  • "Everyone told me how great the steak was but I had no clue it would be that good. They always say a good steak has no need for steak sauce and that is certainly the case at the Famous. It is a bit pricey, but if you're just going out for a special occasion and crave steak...this is the place. Our waiter was great, the staff was prompt and overall experience was amazing."

  • "I took my wife to The Famous for our Valentines Dinner. It was our 1st time there. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch! My only other comment is that the ambience was much louder then we anticipated. I assumed it was on the quieter level such as The Pepper Tree. I also thought the dress code would be more semi-business attire. I saw people in jeans and sneakers. Regardless, it will still be an option to eat there for future events. i just hope it isn't as loud."

  • "We go here about once every couple of months for a romantic date night. They have a nice selection of wines and the food is consistently good. We usually spend about $85.00-$100 per person but we think it is worth it. IMHO this is the best restaurant in the city."

  • "This is supposed to be a high end steakhouse and should have a good piece of salmon. But the salmon was a very small portion, slightly "old" and tasted soft, and farm raised. Certainly not worth going back for. The salmon and one glass of house white wine was $50.00 before the gratuity. For that price the dish should have wowed, but it certainly did not."

  • "The food was good, not great. The steak was fine. We had the ribeye and it was ok. We are steakhouse regulars and I was shocked to see the outrageous dessert prices - $17 for cheesecake, really? We are from NYC and they don't even those charge that for dessert in NY steakhouses."

  • "We don't make it out to the Famous as much as we like, but everything is always dependable. The food, the service, top notch. Being in the holiday season, the restaurant was swamped, but still running smooth as silk. Kudos and thanks for a great night out for my partners 50th birthday celebration."

  • "While the bar noise was a bit loud this time, it's close to Christmas so possibly that added to the festive mood. The good is soo good and the service impeccable. No one rushed us and we had time to truly enjoy our meal. Best steaks in Colorado Springs. Especially good for special occasions."

  • "Host was not aware of special need request on Open Table and between him and manager presented a bit of an uncomfortable entrance into the dining experience. It was clear on Open Table what the simple need was. Three separate times servers dropped and broke dishes close to our table. Bottle of wine was not presented until mid-meal. Overall service seems to have declined. Prices appear to be a bit over the top compared to comparable restaurants."

  • "Wondered about the name...who gave it? Where did it come from? But after taking a group there I can truly say it lived up to the billing. The steaks were superbly prepared and the side dishes were outstanding. The wine matched perfectly with our meal. The servers were knowledgeable and were extremely friendly. It was an outstanding dinner."

  • "The steaks at this steakhouse cannot be beat -- not by the "famous" restaurants such as Ruth's Chris, and not by 5-stars, such as the Broadmoor. When you're in the mood for a great steak, visit The Famous. It deserves its name. (Try the side of mushrooms -- superb. And the onion soup. Ooolala!)"

  • "The steaks and salads were excellent. The service was only fair, our server brought one less bread plate than we needed. He never came back after we got our entrees to ask how they were or if we needed anything. A glass of wine we ordered with dinner came after the dinner was finished. The server did comp that glass but the wine would have been great with the dinner. No water refills. And our table of 6 seemed like it was stuck out in the middle of the floor, as if we were in the path of the flow through the restaurant. Everyone kept walking all around our table as if we were in the way."
