  • Entertainment: Bar Lounge open Monday through Saturday at 5:00pm, and our entertainment begins around 7:00/7.30pm. Mrs. Kitty at the white baby grand, Majid Shabazz on the drums. Mrs. Kitty played on the same ticket with James Brown and Fats Domino and the pre-show for Dizzy Gillespie. Majid was on the same stage with Mahalia Jackson, Count Basie, Aretha Franklin. They play Tuesday – Friday.

The menu is based on century-old Italian recipes and displays Italian specialties; the staff is friendly and professional and the desserts are delicious!

If the night is still young, come and relax at the piano lounge where blues, jazz and every love songs are played at the baby grand. Listen to the music while sipping a drink or dancing with your loved one.

  • "Met with a buddy for dinner. Usually spectacular, this time solid good. Caesar salad always spot on! My veal chop was just slightly over cooked and my friends sea bass was over sauced. I still love this place, just a bit under the norm. Perhaps, Sunday evening, a little on the quiet side. Service very good!"

  • "Reservation set for 7:30PM We arrived and were told table was not ready. We were sent to the bar to wait... for 90 minutes. Reservation does not mean anything there. We may as well have walked in without one. Understood it is Saturday and they do not have all of the technology to handle crowds, but then again our bill was $200 and nothing was said about the inconvenience of the wait, not did they do anything to make up for it."

  • "The food was very good, but overpriced. The osso buco was $47.95, but I had better for almost half the price. Service was excellent. The staff was courteous, friendly, and professional and kept our water glasses filled throughout the meal without having to ask for more water. The bread was nothing special. The ceaser salad was very good. The staff greeted us in Italian and made us feel as if we were in a restaurant in Italy."

Extensive wine list, generally pricey but has some reasonable alternatives. Dessert provided by restaurant in recognition of our anniversary was excellent and appreciated."

  • "The Marriott shuttle driver recommended Donatellos and the 5 of us were NOT disappointed! This place is closer to an authentic Italy restaurant and not on of those chain places. The food was outstanding, and they recommended an excellent affordable wine we loved (2 bottles!) A couple of us had perfectly cooked vegetable risotto and we also had delicious bruschetta, grilled asparagus and limoncello. The servers were charming, young, Italian and flattered the women and gave us roses.... reminded me of one of those intimate family places on the Amalfi Coast where they are as friendly as you like and not just a table to turn over ... but also upscale enough to be romantic or to impress colleagues. Plan to revisit next time I'm in Tampa."

  • "We have lived in south Tampa all of our lives, and dined at Donatello's most every special occasion. I was saddened by our experience this trip. The service was poor. The wrong soup was delivered and when it was corrected, no spoon to eat it with. The table was rickety, and mentioned, but not fixed. My entree came out 10 minutes before my husband's and was good, but not divine. We expected divine food and service and just didn't get either. Out of creme brulee at 8:30 on a Saturday? Overall, very disappointing. $183 disappointing."

  • "I made a reservation for 7:30 on Valentines Day back in Jan. since I anticipated a place like Donatello would fill up fast. My girlfriend had always wanted to dine there and thought it would be worth the special occasion. Wrong. Honestly, the fact that we waited 1.5 hrs isn't what lead me to write this review- while we waited patiently for a table, other couples who came in later (some without reservations at all) were sat before us despite the hostesses' claim that no tables were available. I politely shared my frustration with the hostesses. Their response? "He's a surgeon, honey. Honestly, if I was you, I would have left a while ago." To hear those words and see what I saw quite frankly ruined any chance of enjoying my meal that night."

  • "Not sure how this restaurant has managed to survive so long. We waited 30 minutes despite an OpenTable reservation. The interior looked like a 1970's living room. No cocktail menu at the bar, and the bartender told us she was just filling in and had no idea what to recommend. As for the food, the bread and butter was grocery-store quality, and arrived cold. My partner's beef entree was serrved well done even though he asked for medium-rare. The green beans looked and tasted canned. The chocolate mousse cake was essentially layers of cool whip and chocolate sprinkles. The shrimp entree and fried oysters appetizer were pleasant, but not worth returning for. Overall, a forgettable experience, with an unjustifiably high bill."

  • "very good experience for my wife and I. Upon arrival we were told it would a few moments and led to the bar. We had a glass of wine and were a little put out that several couples were sat ahead of us after just arriving. We waited for about 20 minutes so it wasn't egregious but I did feel I had to check with Gino, the host. Dinner was wonderful. They were very professional, friendly, fast, and polite. they have a good system for service and it is really refreshing. Food tasted very good and portions were very nice as well."

When you are presented to your table you already start to realize that the surprise of the décor quickly and quietly tell you that you and your guest are going to be taken back in time when service was something that was given special attention, where food was prepared with love and that your patronage was appreciated. Donatello's is a gem. You will drive by it many times, my advise is to one day stop by with the one's you love. My favorite part of the night though was listening to Marcello (our server) and after listening to him describe a couple of the dishes with such passion that I folded our menus and asked him to take us on a journey through the menu and his country"

  • "Everything about our meal was outstanding the waiter helped us with suggestions which helped because we wanted everything. High points were the linguine with crab, veal scallopine and a chicken Milanese with respect for the classic presentation. Desserts were outstanding, and then each lady at the table received a rose and a hug from the owner as we left. A bit pricey but worth it."

  • "The food is truly outstanding although quite a bit overpriced. The service, regardless of what other reviews say was mediocre at best. I ordered the pate' appetizer and the Carpaccio ($17and$27) then the Tortellini and a minestrone soup ($27 and $11) followed by the rack of lamb and tenderloin medallions ($70 and $50) all of which were outstanding. Now the sad part... My ice tea stood empty every time for at least 15 minutes. The crumbs were never cleared from the table. They set my $70 lamb in a pile of used splenda packs which were not cleared until I actually told them to. I had to request a steak knife, then I had to request one for my GF.The waiter asked "how is it" when we were almost done. There's more but I'm out of space"

  • "Donatello's was FAB-U-LOUS - Romance provided by the 'old world' charm and genteel service staff. The servers are clearly there to please and make the evening unforgettable. The food was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. My husband had veal that was so tender it could be cut with the fork. Although there was a grouper special that evening, Chef prepared a grouper dish that I enjoyed previously but was not on the menu. Because they were aware the evening was special for us, they brought a cake with a candle, wishing us "Happy Anniversary" - what a wonderful surprise! The lovely rose as I was leaving was a special token. We can't wait to return."

  • "Be warned. Don't order anything without knowing exactly how much it cost!! This was the first time I had been to Donatello, but I was prepared for the pricing. What I was not prepared for was the $14.00 I was charged for a side of spaghetti with my meal that was literally the size of a bread plate. Shame on me for not asking when I ordered. I couldn't have imagined that a side of spaghetti with my meal would have cost about half the price of the entree, especially a tiny little side like that. For the $14 I paid for the little tiny side of spaghetti I could have gone to Maggiano's and got two spaghetti entrees that are large enough to make two meals each. I think Maggiano's spaghetti taste better too."

  • "I have dreams about the agnolotti at Donatello; light, delicate pasta with delicious crema sauce; I enjoyed a half portion as my appetizer. My partner had a half order of cannelloni, also delicious. For entrees, we had the veal entree special, superb, and the beef medallions, both cooked perfectly. The ambience on New Year's was festive and beautiful, with great entertainment in the bar lounge by Miss Kitty and Majid. Highly recommended, and we will, of course, go back for more. Kudos to Gino and Guido for a most excellent, inviting, lovely and delectable restaurant."
