Diner Reviews
  • "Price fix of $19 for three courses on Sundays is an amazing deal! The roasted red pepper soup left something to be desired, I agreed with the man a few tables away who said, "I would say it's tomato if I didn't know any better." The Veal was a great choice, a generous portion and well seasoned. The chocolate mousse is to die for but the rum flavor is barely a hint. They need to use either more rum or a darker rum for it to be anything noticeable. The wine list was not too bad but nothing that was a must buy. There were a few specials on wine as well."

  • "Words can't do justice to how amazing both the food and the staff are at Table for Two. 10 of us recently celebrated my father's 70th birthday here and they could not have been nicer or more accommodating with the planning. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The wine list was well rounded. And the food? Well, I still dream about that wild board sausage. Don't miss out on this restaurant!"

  • "We planned on Thanksgiving at dinner 42,but you were not open. We have tried several times to make a reservation, but you were always booked. We found the secret ! You are full after 7pm. We booked a 6:30 res and enjoyed it . Hope to return soon."

  • "DFT came highly recommended. Did not disappoint. Tableside preparation was an unexpected treat. Only negative was the absence of my favorite beer so I had to "settle" for a Stella. We will most definitely be back."

  • "We shared a very nice crab cake appetizer. My wife had soup and it too was good. Spinach salad was a edge. My wife's crispy chicken breast was cooked to perfection but the sauce was too salty . My lamb chops with. Balsamic and berry reduction were OK but they should have been rested longer to even out the degree of cooking to a better medium rare. The sorbet for desert had very uneven texture but the taste was fine. Prices were very reasonable for downtown Santa Fe."

  • "The entire meal was a disappointment. They had a soup listed on the menu that wasnt available (the two soups they had were dull-french onion and sweet bell pepper), the fig appetizer was dry, the sampler plate dry & overcooked and bananas foster drowned in so much butter and rum it was a third soup option to strip paint. So sad as friends had recommended so highly. Wine list was the highlight and would go again but only for a drink."

  • "This is the fourth time that my husband and I have dined at Dinner for Two and all four times were absolutely delicioso! The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable. The food was beautifully prepared and savory. It was clear that the staff cared about our total dining experience. We will definitely go again."

  • "We returned to D42 last evening and had a bit of a strange experience. Upon arrival we were greeted with "You are 4? I have you down for 3 people." Well, as a restaurateur I know that a 3 and 4 top are essentially the same and the fact that we brought additional revenue should have been greeted with 'Lovely...we can certainly accommodate you!" The food was good except for the fact that one of our guests ordered a rare filet mignon and what arrived was a med-rare / med FM. The server seemed a bit shocked but we had a new one brought to the table properly cooked (of course this took an additional 10 mins of 3 of us eating while the 4th waited for her properly prepared steak). We will return feeling a bit less enthusiastic."

  • "Went there for Christmas Eve dinner and was very impressed. Excellent service and food. So went back when friends came to town and was let down. Server seemed to be only one working the floor so he was hurried and very abrupt. No personality at all. Dinner turned out way more expensive than we anticipated as well. And after waiting to finally try the coffee and doughnuts dessert ( that was sold out at Xmas), again I was let down. Anyone can take a doughnut hole and roll it in tons if sugar, squirt a little chocolate in the middle. Big whoop! Will go again, but won't sell it as awesome like I did to the girls."

  • "My wife and I had a most enjoyable, delicious dinner at Dinner for Two. We enjoyed soup, veal piccatta, and dessert for a very reasonable price and great value because of a Sunday special. From the hot bread to the plentiful dessert, this restaurant was a great success and we highly recommend it for any Santa Fe diner."

  • "This was our first time dining at Dinner for Two. The food was attractively plated and delicious. It was treat to have the Caesar Salad prepared table side as in days gone by. The service was exceptionally friendly, helpful and attentive. Sunday evenings they offer a three-course very reasonably priced meal. This fine dining establishment truly offers fine dining."

  • "We usually have dinner here a couple of times during opera season plus a couple of other times for celebrations during the rest of the year. (Dinner for Two is an hour's drive for us.) This time the mahi mahi portion of our favorite entree (the three-seafood combo) was a bit tough, and we were initially charged the required gratuity twice. Still a fun evening out; we'll be back."

  • "We decided to go there for their Sunday eve dinner special, which on paper looks appealing. I could tell the staff was overwhelmed. The soups (asparagus/artichoke), while tasteful, we're tepid at best. The entrees took a good 30 minutes and the potatoes were. Old, Brussels sprouts inconsistently undercooked, and the lamb chops (for an additional supplement, were overcooked). They ran out of 50% of the red wines by the glass and it took so long for the meal, we had to take our desserts to go (which were very good btw). I appreciate what they're trying to do at D42. I just think they need a little better organization and mgmt."

  • "Took my wife their for valentine's day. Each special menu entrée included a soup and heart-shaped homemade bread. The bread was amazing. Both the Asparagus and French onion soups were great and my wife's steak and potatoes were absolutely excellent. However my seafood sampler was a little mediocre. I guess after eating crab cakes in New England last year I shouldn't expect them to be all that great in Santa Fe. The coconut shrimp was a little better. The atmosphere was great and the wait staff was friendly. The restaurant is bigger and more elegant than it looks from the outside. I would definitely come again to this surprisingly great place."

  • "Granted, we had the last table on V-Day, but there was much left to be desired relating to food. The services was great, very friendly and interested. But that's were things end. Oysters were not cut from the bottom so very sloppy and warm. The Black Cod was overcooked and the chef was unable to figure out a replacement for the mash potatoes (or more likely just wanted to leave) so it was put on the side. The lamb shank itself was very good but it was on a bed of mash potatoes and the soggiest carrots and Brussels sprouts I've every seen. And, the Brussels sprout side with bacon and onion came out cold and again totally soggy. Passed on desert. Decor is nice. Again, the service is excellent, but the food ruins the experience."

  • "Maybe we caught this restaurant on an off night. We had to wait up front for what seemed like forever before the hostess finally arrived to greet us. Other staff either ignored us or indirectly let us know that there was only one person who could help us. Why no alternate greeter? Once we were seated, there was another rather long wait until our server arrived. Once things finally got started, service was adequate, although the only staff moving at more than a "relaxed" pace were the bussers. What saved the evening for us was the food -- it was truly outstanding. For the food alone, we will try the restaurant on another evening, and would recommend it to others, with some caution. We also would explain where they should park."

  • "We love to go to this restaurant for their Sunday night dinner special. Great food on a pre fixe menu but you can also order a la carte. Homemade bread and desserts as well as local foods and seasonal favorites. The service is always good. Chef Andy, his family and staff do a great job."

  • "The onion soup had a week's salt ration in it and very few onions, the lamb steak was good, but the chocolate "cake" was like lead and appeared to have sat around for a week after making. The wine, a Malbec, was superb and the wait staff attentive. Unfortunately the value isn't up to what you would expect."

  • "Was looking forward to dinner at Dinner For Two. It was disappointing to say the least. I had veal piccata that was very tough. Got a bottle of white wine that was served at room temperature. Had to put ice cubes from our water in the wine to chill it. My wife and I shared a dessert and the coffee also came at room temperature. Don't know if we caught them on a bad night but we won't be going back."

  • "Hadn't been in quite a while (over a year) and was pleasantly surprised. The Caesar salad is the best in Santa Fe, without a doubt and the apps were good as were the entrees (excellent lamb shank and salmon). Friendly, simple service and a retro 80s/90 decor make it unique if a bit bizarre. However, it would be hard to find better food and a very reasonable price in Santa Fe...we look forward to trying their Sunday dinner ($19) / 3 courses. That lamb shank is sounding even more delicious!"

  • "I had been planning to try this restaurant for a long time. I've been there twice now, the food is fantastic, prepared with locally sourced ingredients where possible, and a diverse menu. However, my experiences with the service were mixed. The first time, the service was incredibly slow; the waitress forgot to order one of our entrees! The second time, the service was much better, though I thought the waiter was annoying; he kept coming to our table and interrupting our conversation. The Caesar salad, made tableside, is to die for! The "salad chef" offered us levels 1 - 5, with increasing amounts of garlic. He recommended the 2, so we ordered the 3. VERY strong! We went with his advice and ordered the 2 the second time."

  • "My hubby and I came to this restaurant for the dinner of New Year's Eve.The front desk lady is very friendly and thoughtful when seating us. The cost of food is at higher level, but very delicious. The service is good, except the waiters were cold and proud, I mean we hardly saw their smiling face when they served us---A pity for this special evening!"

  • "We were caught needing a nice Saturday night dining spot with friends at 3pm. I knew the visitors alone were jamming the usual places around downtown that weekend. Fortunately, I ran into a long-time resident of the city whose culinary taste I trusted and asked for suggestions. She recommended Dinner for Two wholeheartedly. Wow, did she steer us right. Our friends were so impressed that we had discovered this place. I think the bread they serve with the caramelized onions may be the best bread I've ever had at a restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, very warm ambience. My filet was top notch and everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. We are definitely going back. Wonderful change of pace in SF."

  • "My friend gave us a gift certificate to this restaurant, and we decided to use it on Christmas Day. Our reservation was at 3PM. We were immediately seated and waited about 10 minutes before one of the waiters stopped at our table. After that, everything went smoothly, and we had a delicious dinner. We started with calamari ceviche and French onion soup. Both dishes were excellent. My boyfriend ordered the filet mignon. He said it was superb, especially the sauce made with cocoa, coffee and pomegranate. I had the sea bass, another delicious entree. For dessert, we shared the chocolate fudge cake with Belgian chocolate ice cream. All in all, a wonderful meal. Also, the onion bread made in-house is so good that it's difficult to stop eating."

  • "I had a good experience at this restaurant in the summer and was looking forward to Xmas dinner there. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the ribeye steaks we all ordered. They were stringy and just about inedible. They really need to revisit the idea that purchasing inferior cuts of meat will make their profit margin greater. I have never had such a terrible meal. I also hated all the onions in the potatoes. I might be willing to try them again since, as I said, I was pleased the first time around."
