Diner Reviews
  • "We go out fairly frequently to new restaurants and would consider ourselves foodies. This place is purely fantastic, and it isn't just because the location is terrific, tucked away in upper lodo beside the bridge at 14th & Wewatta, or that the energy is just right (we went on a Tuesday evening for the free concert) or that the food is truly outstanding (best crab cake I've EVER eaten on appetizer menu...held together with crab foam - astoundingly delicious)...also thoroughly enjoyed the scallops, red snapper, salads and a creamed corn TDF...but the staff is exceptional! Shout out to Samuel for taking such good care of us and providing a free dessert not on the menu, as well as Aaron, general manager extraordinaire! We'll be back!"

  • "My wife and I ate here before a concert at the Pepsi Center. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The drinks were mixed to perfection and the service was truly friendly."

  • "Food, drink, and ambience were great!!! The outdoor band was way too loud and I was sitting inside."

  • "Food was very good, but this is our second visit, and clearly Chef Coohill needs to train his staff better. Knowledge and grace were severely limited in all service interactions there, which also reduced our food rating - since our server recommended something our 14yo would never eat (and we took her word for it despite asking several questions). Even so, everything was nicely flavored and elegantly presented, but nothing was even close to spectacular."

  • "Service was magnificent. The tasting menu was amazing. What a great restaurant in lodo."

  • "We arrived at Coohills on a Friday night for our first wedding anniversary. The staff was friendly and had prepared us a nice table with a view. We were treated to complimentary champagne for the occasion, alongside a delicious amuse bouche (watermelon, cheese, red pepper). My wife did not like that their wine list was displayed on an iPad. She found it difficult to compare her options. The cheese plate was a bit disappointing for the price ($17). My caesar salad with fried anchovies was really delicious...and I eat my share of caesar salad. My wife loved her steak dish and I had a wonderful harissa spiced lamp sirloin. The entrees change with the seasons, so do not trust the online menu. The bread pudding was quite sweet. Romantic!"

  • "Once you receive your miniature amount of food (after a too long wait), you find that the food is pretty and truly petite ! After you have eaten, you receive your very large bill. Then you go home and eat some real food."

  • "Staff fabulous. Food outstanding. View and location perfect. Premium priced but worth it for a special celebration."

  • "This is a remarkable restaurant in an unlikely location. Food is French influenced and creative but not fussy. Fresh ingredients with excellent preparation, presentation, and attention to detail. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We opted for one of the tasting menus, and each course was a pleasant surprise."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 5 wedding anniversary. The staff did sucha wonderful job of making it nice and the food was expetional. We did the 7 course tasting menu and the wines that were paired with the food were perfectly selected. They made us feel very special."

  • "We thought Coohills was great but went back and there was a rehearsal dinner. My steak and sides tasted good but were cold. I'll give it a try again but will sit at the table in front of the kitchen that's the best table w the best service. "

  • "Coohills was busy in the early afternoon this past Mother's Day, but the staff handled the traffic with aplomb. The buffet was always fresh and plentiful, and the staff, while busy, was unfailingly attentive. Lovely to see so many multiple generations of happy families. Even though it snowed! "

  • "My wife, baby daughter and I celebrated Mother's Day with our first visit to Coohills, which turned out to be a great dining experience. The brunch was high quality and didn't try to do too much. The brunch buffet focused on relatively smaller spread, compared to other brunch buffets, but it allowed to refine the dishes they served to be utterly delectable. I would highly recommend to my friends and family and we will definitely be going back in the near future."

  • "I took my mother to Coohills for Mother's Day. We arrived 1/2 before the doors opened. It was cold and snowing outside. The staff opened the door and seated us so we did not have to stand outside in the cold. Our waiter, Sam came over and greeted us and made us feel very welcome even though we were so early. Sam, was a wonderful waiter. The food was excellent. No complaints for anything. "

  • "We discovered Coohill's during last year's 5280 week, and just returned last week for our anniversary. The food is simply wonderful. Everything we had was excellent, from appetizers through desert. They have a very good wine list and the prices are relatively reasonable, not the obscene markups some restaurants charge. And, both of our visits we had the most unbelievable service ever. The waitresses were engaging, thoughtful, helpful and proactive. The other night we were seated by a large table with lots of children (they were very well behaved.) Our waitress took it upon herself to move us to another table with a nice view of the river area away from the noise. Very thought ful and appreciated. Great place."

  • "Wonderful meal, wine and service was top notch from start to finish. A visit from chef and Tom Coohills made us feel like family. A must try if you haven't gone yet and a go to for a great meal if you have. Denver continues to grow in it's culinary skill and talent! Well done "

  • "The food is delicious and the service attentive and terrific. It is a fun restaurant in a special downtown location. The halibut was wonderful and so were the crab cakes. Actually all in the party loved their meals. Love the bright room and looking forward to summer on their patio."

  • "The five course pairing menu was unbelievable as each course continued to build on the previous and the service was impeccable."

  • "This was our first time to eat here; we came before a Nugget's game. Great location, close to the Pepsi Center, and we enjoyed everything we tasted. One comment is there were no French red wines for sale by the glass, and a limited selection overall, to enjoy with our meal. Next time we will come back to enjoy the chef's tasting menu and wine pairing."

  • "Great food and great service. Both meat and fish dishes were cooked to perfection. Will absolutely be back."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "The crab cake served with a memorable sauce is reason enough to go back again. The octopus appetizer was prepared perfectly and mussels had a very tasty broth perfect for bread dipping with the warm, house-made bread. Seated in a booth in the bar area served a dual purpose of a great experience & watching a Final Four game too. Having country music playing before the George Strait concert at the Pepsi Center showed attention to detail that added to the experience. Every time we have dined at Coohills, the owner/chef is overlooking the kitchen & service as he greets guests. We highly recommend Coohill's for a quiet romantic dinner in the attractive dining area or for more interaction with the staff, try sitting at the chef's table or bar."

  • "The cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desserts and dinner wine were absolutely superb...it was definitively one of my best meals out...great job!!"

  • "Boils down to: competes with the better restaurants in town in terms of food, but is more expensive than those same restaurants. So, won't be our go to."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "I thought the food and service were great the portions were a nice size and a nice presentation. My girlfriend thought the wine by the glass was too expensive. I didn't care for the room I thought it was too small and the overall ambience was not all that favorable for couples compared to other restaurants in that price range. So although it was a nice dinner I probably would not go back."

  • "We reserved a table for 10 in the bar area so that we could gather with friends before a Denver Nuggets game. The location was perfect as it is directly across the street from the Pepsi Center. We arrived early, but our table was ready and we were seated immediately. Each of the owners of the restaurant came to our table to greet us and to thank us for visiting their restaurant. We were very impressed by this. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the food was great, we loved the atmosphere and our group had a wonderful time. We enjoyed our experience at Coohill's so much that we returned after the game for cocktails and to socialize. The bar area had a good crowd and great energy, We can't wait to go back again soon!"

  • "More specific about service-the bartender fabulous! the hostess very friendly & accommodating; our server the problem. She had a chip on her shoulder. We were told you can get the bar menu in both the bar or dining room. We chose the dining room but were told by the server the bar menu was not an option. She was very condescending & snobby towards our party. She also would not have our food "fired" until we were completely done w/ appetizers. We had asked her to go ahead & get things started cause we had an event to go to & this request was met w/ an attitude. Aside from her though, it was a great restaurant & food was great. If we go to Coohills again, we will choose to sit in the bar area or make sure we have a different server."

  • "Tom Coohill has won so many awards, and some very exclusive ones, but the only way you would know is by trying his innovative dishes and reading about him on the restaurant's web site. He is a very down to earth guy who 'lives' at his restaurant. This month of March, 2014 had a special menu reflecting the different regions of France and the food was amazing. I'm not a 'comfort food' kind of diner but what he did with chicken and mashed potatoes was anything but bland comfort food. And everything, is made from scratch and on-site. This is a top 3 restaurant in Denver and a must visit for foodies. Best choices are the home made Pate, any preparation of duck, steak and seafood. The bonus is an innovative and unique cocktail menu!"

  • "You know those tasting menus, where you get 6 or 7 items, and several are just not very good, and the ones you like you get about 1-1/2 bites of? So we got the tasting menu with 10 courses, expecting to like 6 or 7. Much to my stomach's dismay, THEY WERE ALL EXCELLENT! And the portions ranged from 3-6 bites each. This was our first visit here, and I would assume the regular menu items were as good. But if you like Tasting Menus, and think you have had some good ones, I challenge you to try Coohills'. You will not be disappointed."

  • "Yummy and fun! Pâté app was a lot. Pork and chicken and too much for an app. If we knew we would have ordered less. Salad was great and so were the pommes frites, skinny yummy fries. Kobe beef burger was good too ! Not sure if they have outdoor dining or brunch."

  • "It is nice to have a restaurant experience when the restaurant was hitting on all cylinders. We all left feeling just great? Well sated, pleased and ready to return. All in all a memorable meal"

  • "Very nice comfortable dining, not too casual. Great wine list, Server made a great recommendation pairing with our dinner choices. Foie Gras was as good as I've had in France. Braised short ribs were excellent as was the salmon, and you can't go wrong with any of their desserts especially their Stranahan whisky bread pudding. A great dining experience. We went to three 5280 Restaurant Week restaurants and this was the best."
