A word from Bolero

Located close to the corner of Glenmore and Macleod we are Calgary's first Brazilian BBQ style restaurant. At Bolero the customer is in charge of the timing on our wide selection of churrasco(skewers) to be brought to your table by our Gaucho Chefs. Green means go and Red means stop. "We came here for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. While it was surprising how dark they kept the restaurant during the day, it was nice and quiet which was nice as we could have a conversation without shouting at each other. The food was good quality, especially the hot buffet items which isn't always easy to do. The meats came around at a good pace, and all were cooked well with the exception of the lamb which was too rare for my taste. We were there for two hours and were not rushed by the staff - really important in my opinion if you want a chance to sample all they have to offer without stuffing yourself too quickly."

"My Husband & I were a bit early for our reservation and we were seated promptly. We really appreciated that! We were seated near'ish the grill, really entertaining to watch the staff interact and seemingly really enjoy their jobs! The house Merlot is decently priced and pretty good, for a glass of red. The food was fabulous, our waiter, I wish I remembered his name, was great. Asking how were doing, if there was anything in particular that we wanted next. A fabulous evening for my Husband's Birthday."

"Food came by very slow, in fact some items never made it to our table which was very disappointing. Service was also very slow took over 25 min for us to be able to order dessert. Quality of the food was good, flavors were there. The manager was very accommodating and helpful in regards to the reservation. But not too sure if I would return due to the slow service."

"Although I LOVE the idea of "all-you-can-eat" MEAT, my brunch experience yesterday reminded me why I'd never been back since my first visit 3+ years ago... Although the brunch offerings were reasonably good, there was nothing wrong with the service and/or ambience, the unfortunate truth is that all of the beef items I tried, including the top sirloin and particularly the garlic / parmesan steak were exceptionally dry, almost jerky-like. I really had a hard time choking down the mouthful of the latter without taking a considerable amount of water to wash it down... In fairness, the bacon-wrapped chicken and the lamb were much better... but, I won't be going back..."

"Although the main waiter was amazing, the other servers were mediocre. The person who took our drink orders was funny, attentive and polite. The servers with the swords frequently skipped over our table, although the green side was up. We saw a pattern in the tables they frequented, I am not sure if tipping them up front is the way to get them to come directly to your table.. but it was frustrating watching them serve the table beside us then skip over to a table in the corner after looking at our table.. we made eye contact, told them how much we loved certain dishes, yet they still skipped us. Other than that the food was great, sometimes cold by the time it made it to our table. Salad bar was amazing!"

"Had a great evening, love the atmosphere & service was spectacular. The only negative I have is some of the beef was a little tough and bacon wrapped chicken was dark meat only with under cooked bacon, previously it was white meat & delicious."

"Very easy to overeat if the sign is left on green! With the many options coming past, there is something for everyone, but one definitely needs to be a carnivore. This time round the overall temperature in the restaurant was high enough as to be almost unpleasant."

"My fiancé and I have been to Boleros about 5 times in the last 3 months. And each time we have gone there it was incorporated in our date night. Which usually consists of dinner and a movie. Every time we have come here the staff and customer service are second to none. We really enjoy the atmosphere and the layout. Sitting across from your fireplace and enjoying time together just to be with one another with no stresses or worries. The food is absolutely fantastic to the point where we just about have to roll out of the door when we are finished. The quality and quantity of the food, plus the excellent customer service is what brings us back over and over again."

"I love, LOVE, love Bolero. Its one of my top 5 restaurants and must visit. Their buffet has excellet choices and always fresh. Their mashed potatoes are a must for a side as well as their coconut rice. I am always told not to overload on sides because their meat selection is what is really what you came for. I never listen. But its true, wait for their meat selection, because it is excellent. Waiters and their complete staff is absolutely amazing. They check on you to make sure everything is to your liking and to make sure you glass is always full. If you are seated at the bar and Phil is your bartender, you will have absolutely amazing time. All in all, I always choose to visit Bolero when we go to Calgary. It is a must."

"The food was excellent but our table was very dark - poorly lit by 2 small candles. this would have been ok for a romantic dinner but not for a group of 7. No effort was made to provide additional lighting of any kind when we complained."

"Service is so slow one round of pineapple and bacon. Food on buffet table is almost empty and cold. too pricey for a family of four (with teenagers) it will be better if they do have a promo for family."

"We were looking for a nice restaurant for a stagette and a friend recommended Bolero. It was a little complicated because we have quite a few nutritional requirements (including a vegan) and a meat based restaurant was a controversial choice but it worked out perfect! It fulfilled all the paleo requirements, had plenty of selection for the vegan and the rest of the meat-a-tarians were satisfied. The only fault I could find is the meat was slow coming around to those that didn't take much from the sides bar."

"Fantastic! I was here for my birthday with a large group of 12. It was a great experience. Bolero was able to accomodate all the different people in our group from the "maetatarians to gluten free to vegetarians". Even with such a large group the service was outstanding, the food kept coming until our bellies were full and the drinks were always full! I had phoned ahead and was also able to bring in my own birthday cake! Of course we did leave some of the cake pops for the staff :) I would for sure go back for a special occasion or just a nice evening out."

"first time there- loved reserving online. could see the openings and choose. Being on high protein diet I wished I would have heard of this place sooner. Handicap accessible. Big bonus in my book. Booth seating was perfect. Loved being able to try different types of meat that I hadn't had before. ( ex.Lamb) Not to spicy. lots of different flavors. will definitely be back. this time we know what to expect and when to stop eating so we have room for dessert. Although the desserts sounded amazing we didn't have room for it. Definitely leave full."

"This was our sixth visit to the restaurant. I will not be coming back. I found the meat was not to your usual standard. The bacon wrapped filet was lukewarm, the ribs were tough & pink in the middle, the bacon on the chicken was raw. The lamb had too much fat. The beef was cooked too rare. I asked each beef server for a piece that was not rare but I still got rare almost blue pieces of meat. It was a great disappointment for me as I used to like coming to your restaurant. I will not recommend your restaurant anymore."

"I get that it's a slow eating experience, but waiting that first serving of meat to arrive can be painful. If you're hungry have a snack prior to arrival. Parking is still horrible at this location, there are stinky enough spots for all the patrons."

"The food was good. I am not a huge meat eater but brought my boyfriend there for his birthday. I ordered the teaser pleaser and had maybe 3 peices of my pork. I figured when our waiter took our plates I could take my left overs but they thew th out. If you spend $30 on meat make sure you specify you don't want them to chuck it. Otherwisey boyfriend loved the variety of meats."

"We went to Bolero for our 4 year anniversary over the long weekend. It was the day after valentines day so the reservations where kinda slim pickings, but boy am I ever glad that we went earlier in the night! We didn't have to wait long at all, we where seat right away and a server came over instantly with water and introduced himself. We had never been there so he explained the concept very well. The cold bar was pretty good, wide array of foods. And the meats! my god, amazing, pretty sure both my boyfriend and I are still dreaming about the pork tenderloin. I would definitely good back. Service, food, atmosphere....everything was bang on!"

"We found the service very attentive and friendly. The food was prompt and well cooked however quite under seasoned from our experience with Brazilian foods. It is possible that this was just due to when we were dining. We were there around 5pm on a tuesday"

"We had booked online through "Open Table" and requested a quieter section for our dinner (Which they accommodated no problem). Our servers name was "Ian" who was fantastic at looking after us. He was very attentive to our needs & understood it was a special night and gave us our space. Our dinner was at 6PM Our only negative feedback about the evening was: 1.) The time between the rounds that the meat was brought to the tables... we had 10-15 mins between a couple offerings coming past our table. When it did come by, the "medium rare" items such as the filet mignon was VERY rare 2.) It seemed that the quieter areas were less frequented by the servers and that the focus was on the larger tables or groups, rather than the individual tables."

"Great place had a good bunch with lots of options but got seated in the corner and seemed to get passed over by the meat that was going around or it was always the end of the meat. It is a place where you are not rushed with eating."

"This was the perfect restaurant to surprise my fiancé with on valentines. A meatlovers dream! They also had impressive gluten free options and all the servers were very knowledgable on which were gluten free options. Drinks and dessert were also delicious. And since it was valentines, I got a road at the end of the meal."

"I've been to Bolero several times,, and it's always a great experience. If you're not a meat eater/lover I would recommend a different restaurant, but if you love grilled meats, this is the place for you. All-you-can-eat meat! Its great. The flavors are awesome. The habanero Pork is my favorite - very mild flavor, not spicy at all and SUPER juicy! Their desserts are also outstanding."

"The service was good, but the food overall was OK. The Cajun Chicken was bland, and some of the skewers (Bacon wrapped Chicken) that came out, were charcoal burnt. The quality control should be looked at . I know that it was a Saturday night (February 8, 2014), but that should be a paramount concern."

"We took our son and 5 of his friends for dinner on a Tuesday night which was his actual birthday. We had a partial booth and another table separated by a space for the server to get through. It was close enough to be together but perfect distance for the guys to talk, laugh etc. 4 of the guys had never been before so the interaction between the servers and the guys was good fun. Everybody had more than enough to eat. The guys loved all the meat. At the end of the dinner I had arranged for a birthday cake to come out and it did with sparklers a blazing. All in all, great evening, great food, great birthday!!!!!"

"Had such an incredible time at Boleros...came here for a romantic dinner before my boyfriend left for the military. It had a very romantic setting, the staff were fantastic, the food was to die for and I will definitely be back! Dinner was an incredible value and the Sangria is absolutely delicious!"

"Love the restaurant and type of foods they serve. Had a large party of 8, wasn't as fun. 2 or 4 is much better. Otherwise server has to go to each end of the table and it's not as easy. Was my husbands birthday and they gave him a piece of cake with a sparkler, which was the best cake I'd ever had, not sure what it was called, the server surprised us. I'd definitely go again, it is a lot of food, so we like to save it for special occasions. 1 person in our party got the teaser platter, was a great value, if your looking for something smaller."
