Zov's Bistro Tustin Ratings and Reviews
We used to come here all the time and this was our first visit in several years, we were very disappointed. The food is not as good and the service was frustrating. The restaurant looks great, the singer was having a difficult time with some of the songs. Maybe expanding was not the best idea.
Great for a date with someone special. Lamb two way was great. The atmosphere was unique and comfortable. The staff was all very kind and accommodating. The scallops were tasty. The beet appetizer and the calamari appetizer were both very good.
Good beer and wine. The noise wasn’t bad. I’d definitely come back.
While the service was acceptable, the restaurant aspires to be a fine dining establishment, and unfortunately...it isn't. Prices compete with The Summit House, Maestro's, etc...; but the food is only "OK", and the location is in a strip mall. If you come in on the wrong side of the restaurant, you get to walk through the dingy hallways and bathrooms en route to the dining area.
Whereas other fine dining restaurants would have a quiet ambiance (e.g. piano playing in the background) on a special day like Valentines Day; this one piped in '80's rock.
Dinner for 2, including a modest bottle of wine, and tip, for roughly $200. You can do better!
Very pricey for nothing special. Gina our server was exceptional though. Our steak was not prepared as we ordered and we had to wait longer for them to bring out the correctly cooked item. Gina did her best to make us feel welcome and make up for the kitchen's mistake.
I always love going to Zov's for their unique dishes and for the fireplace ambiance on date night. However, we were quite disappointed during our most recent visit. We did put in a special request, as we always do, for seating by the fire. When we arrived the entire section was blocked off due to an upcoming party and we were not allowed in the area. The regular seating just isn't very quaint. Sadly upon leaving 2 hours later, there still was nobody seated in the fireplace area. Had we been properly notified of the unavailability we would have gone elsewhere. This was a special occasion for us and Zov's missed the mark.
We have eaten at Zov's for many years. The food was excellent with some a new menu since our last visit. However, our service was very disappointing. We first felt totally ignored and then our waitress finally came to the table and suggested a strawberry red wine. We declined her suggestion and had to ask for a wine menu. We received our salads and had to ask a helper for our wine. We finally got a new waitress who was very good. No one seemed to care that our service was way below the usual standard at Zov's. I also wanted to take my leftovers home and had to finally ask for them. Not sure I could recommend this restaurant.
Service went above and beyond. Came with my aunt who is a restaurateur and not the easiest to please. Server was so gracious (wish I remembered his name!). Food was delicious, perfectly portioned and presented beautifully. Loved the tahini tacos with chicken and jalapeño lime margarita.
We love Zov's, and the food and the service were superb. But, the noise level absolutely precluded conversation. We had planned a dinner with old friends with the plan of catching up -- it wasn't to be. We needed to shout to convey even simple sentences; no nuances of thought were possible. I think we happened to have the bad luck to hit a Friday night with a crowd and two sources of music going. Wouldn't it be possible to put people who want to have conversation in a separate room? We'll be back to Zov's - but not on a Friday night!
Great place for a special occasion or regular dining. Our meal was outstanding! We had the braised lamb and eggplant! So delicious, the best dish I have had in a long time. Not surprised as this place has been in business for a long time. Great svc, ambience and the staff is very pleasant.
Awesome squash ravioli...highly recommend. Good wine too, although a little pricer selection than I'm used to. Crème Brule was good. Service was good. I would go back for this ravioli alone. I had squash ravioli a couple of weeks ago at Il Fortinatio in Irvine,
and it didn't come close to the dish I had at Zov's!
When we purchased our home, twenty one years ago, the salesman told us about a neighborhood gem one mile away. That gem was Zov's. It is still a gem. Like other high-end resturants, portions are small and prices are hgh. Oh, but the taste! Highly recommend.
Zov's has both a bistro and a cafe/bakery; we ate in the bistro. The food was excellent. This time we tried the 5-hour braised lamb and short rib papparadelle. Both excellent, especially the lamb. The lentil soup and butternut squash soup were also fine. We only finished about half the dinner, so had an excellent lunch on Sunday.
On the downside (for us), the light level is dim to dismal, and no flashlight was offered to aid us as we pored over the menu.
We both felt though that the noise level was too high, coming in part from the live music, which transitioned to recorded music, and a largish boisterous party at an adjacent table.
The setting is a bit unusual, being neither truly indoors nor outdoors, but in a semi-open structure that appears to me like a harden tent.
Great place with outstanding food and service. We celebrated my husband’s birthday with friends. Even though the restaurant was having a private event going on, we still received great service and food, which we appreciate. My daughter’s steak was served a little under done and they took it right back a cooked a new one that was perfect. And we didn’t have to wait forever. Love Zov’s Bistro!
Although pricy, what good thing isn't? The food was good, the service great, the ambiance good to great, it bit noisy but it sounded alive and busy. The Mediterranean style food was quite abundant, taking home left overs from every plate, and management checked into the table twice to make sure our experience was good. I was a bit shell-shocked from the sticker price, but I'd return because it was predictably good - and when it comes to food, I prefer that.
I always have a lovely time at Zov's. It's a great place to meet up with friends, as we did on this visit; it was their first time. We enjoyed many of the appetizers (including the hummus and the cheeses) and the lamb meatballs. And my entree was the beef and chicken kebobs, which were excellent. Oh, and I enjoyed a pomegranate margarita.
