The true highlight of The Whisper Restaurant and Lounge is the incredible food created by Chef Jacquet. Local favorites include our Spinach and Roasted Mushroom Salad, Grilled Skirt Steak, Wild Alaskan Halibut, and our tender and flavorful filet skewers.
We had a great time. The entertainment was really fabulous and we loved how close we were to the performers. Food was excellent and unusual. Service was outstanding. The whole scene was a 10. But one caveat - don't wear good jewelry here. I lost a bracelet that night when I put on my coat to leave. I called the restaurant and they never called me back. I called again and they were quite rude and indifferent to my situation. Was not impressed with their empathy or helpful attitude mainly because there was none.
Service from the moment stepping in til leaving is always top notch and courteous. Our favorite place by far at Grove.
A thoughtfully constructed lunch menu with something for just about any taste. Attractively presented and delicious. Service was just the right level of attention but no hovering.
I discovered their secret happy hour menu and we decided to try it out before going to the movies at the Pacific Grove. It was incredible service, we got our food very quickly, the beers were very affordable (although the happy hour beer list is not that extensive), the wine choices were great. All the food was fantastic, especially the fries with truffle aioli. We will definitely go back for their Happy Hour. P.S. We went on a Friday night, there was live music in the outdoor seating area, which was very nice as well. Not sure if it's only Fridays that they have live music, however.
Great location in the Grove. The food was wonderful and the service good. Pretty basic good, but well made.
It's one of our favorites now for over 5 years though I will say the bartender is not great...
This review only applies to the service, as we left before we could eat. After we sat down, it took a while for our server to come to our table, so when she did we order our drinks and dinner. 25 minutes went by and we still did have our drinks (a Sprite and a hot tea). With our server nowhere in sight we made the decision to cut our loses and we left. The ambience is great, but the slow service seems to be a common complaint in this restaurant. Hopefully the management will get the message and address the problem.
we enjoyed our dinner there. Probably the nicest restaurant at the Grove....
Food and ambience good. Service friendly but a little slow.
Restaurant was closed. Worst part is that open table confirmed my reservation. What a let down. It was our my wedding anniversary! :(
15th wedding anniversary dinner, magical corner table with romantic music in a delightful setting! Excellent service and memorable night - thank you Whisper!!
Zach was amazing-he was friendly and attentive. The good was great-the drink were even better! The whole staff was great!
Stopped in for drinks and a appetizer. The decor is very nice, the service was slow because they only had one waitress for the whole restaurant. The lemon meringue drop was a yummy drink and the roasted cauliflower was a nice healthy light option.
The service was great and food was wonderful. We sat in the patio area. It was really hot outside but because their patio was a covered patio, we were comfortable.
This food is amazing here. Everything on the menu is top quality!! This is rare for LA restaurants. Even the $13 glass of wine was amazing, which is highly unusual for LA
I'd go here again and again.
Had a business-type early evening dinner here at it was the perfect spot. We arrived during happy hour and got to take advantage of some of the food and drink specials and there was a jazz ensemble playing adding to the ambiance but still allowing for conversation.
Average place. Nothing to scream at
Love the bottomless Bellinis and chicken and crepes
Food was good but restaurant lacked good service. We sat at the table for quite awhile and no one came up to check on us. It was not busy & since we sat inside we were "forgotten". Also, bartender lacked any "mixology knowledge". I asked for suggestion of drink/mix for a specific alcohol & she was clueless yet waitress had said she'd be more helpful. I'd give it another try...maybe?!
The menu is somewhat limited, but the dishes I tried were all excellent.
It's a nice little spot at the grove. Nice enough to take a date, casual enough to pop by for a solo burger on a weekday. I thought I remembered the calamari being good last time, but it was bland this time. Everything else was tasty -- the filet mignon skewers, mushroom truffle flatbread, tuna crudo, and cauliflower (which comes in a big chunk).
Prior to booking our Sunday reservation, I checked their website & saw that it was Sunday brunch. The site didn't give a time for brunch, nor did it indicate the brunch menu would be the only option, so I took a chance. FYI, on Sunday the brunch menu is the only menu til 4. We arrived at 2, but that wasn't a problem since I saw a few interesting things on the brunch menu. I ordered the pork belly hash, my friend ordered the BLT & we shared an order of beignets. The beignets should be called donuts. They were delicious & light with a blackberry jam, but they were NOT beignets. My hash should've been called anything but hash. The pork belly, although quite tasty, was just a hunk of meat in the middle of a tiny skillet with diced potatoes, too many peppers & mushrooms. Even though I picked out a lot of the peppers, it had great flavor, but again, I expected hash. My friend's BLT was MEH. They gave her the ugly butt end of the tomato & the brioche was cut just a hair too thick. Since I've been here before & had amazing food, I would give them another chance with dinner, but not brunch. The service, oh the service. Our waitress seemed to not want anything to do with us. Twice I was able to make eye contact with her & call her over. After the 2nd time, she made sure that she did not make eye contact with me. She never asked if we wanted additional beverages. When I asked for condiments, she said she would check to see if they had them but never returned with an answer. When I wanted a box for my pork belly, my friend had to go to the manager & ask for one because she passed by 3 times & never looked our way. I understand we weren't in the busy part of the restaurant but not only did we not choose our seats in that part of the restaurant, we were told there was nothing available in the patio, which is where she spent most of her time. So if you happen to be in The Grove during dinnertime & the other restaurants are super busy, try The Whisper Restaurant & Lounge.
I didn't think the food was going to be any good since the place was empty for Sunday brunch. I had the eggs benedict and pastrami sandwich. Both dishes used high quality ingredients. The only knock I have is that the service was lacking a bit. I had to wave down my server to ask for refills for our drinks a couple times. Besides that, it was good. The server was nice to give us 10% discount at the end of our meals.
We went early before a premier so it was nearly empty, but the service was friendly and very good. The small plates we shared were delicious.
Everything was 5 stars! Our server continued to check on us, with no very long wait time! Service was awesome!
Our family of adults went for a pre graduation celebration. We experienced disappointing food, stiff and inattentive service and very limited menus choices. My husband's salad was wrong and his meat was not cooked to request, yet we were never asked how our meals were. The rest of our meals were okay but overall we left with the opinion that we do not need to go back.
We ordered flank steak with fries and one with potatoes and salad. The restaurant had NO STEAK SAUCE. The waitress offered to make something up. What? Word to management - steak w/o steak sauce is a hamburger. Reduce price accordingly.
Our server was great! So sorry to the host for taking a long time to decide where to sit and all but everyone was great. We loved the food.
I frequent The Grove and had found The Whisper on Yelp. I read the great reviews and decided to try it for Mother's Day. It was AMAZING!!! The food, the service, the ambiance.... all GREAT!! My Mom really enjoyed her food and she plans to return to eat here with her Girlfriends for a day out and also plans to come back with my father on Date night!! Thank you to The Whisper Lounge for a great Mother's Day lunch!!
Great spot at The Grove. We stopped in for a late afternoon lunch.
Service was slow and it wasn't that busy so there was no excuse for the service to be like that.
Disappointed the Bartender didn't make our mojito right either.
It was his first week but still, another bartender should've been there so he can shadow.
I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go again...it was unfortunate too cause we went there to listen to jazz music and you couldn't even hear the music since we were seated outside.
Last Friday night, I discovered the Whisper Lounge at the Grove, found on a quiet street across from Barney’s. I was very pleased with this hidden gem of a restaurant. It has the ambience of a New York speakeasy complete with a small combo playing classics such as those sung by Frank Sinatra.
Our server, Angie, was warm and charming, making us feel right at home from the moment we were seated. We ordered cocktails and I had one of the best slightly dirty grey goose martinis. It truly was excellent—and trust me, I know a good martini. For dinner, I enjoyed a kale salad followed by a filet and grilled vegetables. My dining partner started with soup followed by a filet with white rice (special request). He said it was cooked to perfection. We ended the meal with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cookie. This, too, was delicious.
If you are looking for fine dining before or after a movie at the Grove, I highly recommend the Whisper Lounge. In fact, I hope to return for another martini this coming weekend.
Love the atmosphere. Great wine, flat breads, french fries. Brussel sprouts were slightly over done. Salmon dish could have used a little more seasoning. But overall, love this spot.
The calamari was some of the worst I had ever had. How can you mess this up? I don't get it. I've been here in the past on a Dine LA menu and it was a far better experience. The server was sweet, but overall you want a place where you can get good service AND good food. This time was a fail, unfortunately.
This place was awesome! The food was great and my girlfriend loved it. She told me that she almost cried because the food tasted so good. The jazz ban was a nice touch, it made me feel like I was in La La Land.
Great place for Valentine's Day. We went to Whisper Lounge and even though we were late, they were very accommodating and seated us at a very nice table. The server was friendly and let us know about the Valentine's Day menu.
To our surprise, the server brought out an amuse bouche that was as tasty as can be. Shortly after that, he came with the wine the first course. During the first course, he noticed that my glass was empty and came to fill it up. That's great service. After the first course, he brought out our delicious main course and brought out our glasses of wine. We ordered from the Valentine's Day menu and it included wine pairings with the courses. After the main course, dessert came with a glass of port and it was the end of our experience. We left very satisfied and happy.
I've been going to Whisper for years now and it's always a great experience.
Thank you very much.
The whole ambience was so great....very old school but modern. The small music combo was outstanding and the service from the guy at the door all the way through was outstanding.
Michael is awesome!
The food is only OK for what you get and pay for. (My friends and I had to stop at Wetzel's Pretzels after dinner to actually satisfy our hunger!) Service was nothing special and the drinks were hit or miss. The ambience is nice for a birthday dinner or date but only for tapas. If you want an actual meal that tastes good, go to Maggiano's down the street instead.
Went during the Christmas holiday week on a date. The ambiance is really nice and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the mall. The food is good, but not anything mind blowing. Service is also good, but sometimes hard to find the servers. Overall I liked it and would recommend, especially around the holidays because the grove is very nicely decorated.
