A pleasant romantic atmosphere. They do believe cream sauces make for fine cuisine haha. I found the waitress sweet but inefficient with wine knowledge... timid and unsure and unwilling to make her way over to me to discuss. Disappeared after dinner for way too long which I find very very irritating.

Got the 530pm pre-fix menu before a show at DPAC. Loved the bib lettuce salad, hanger steak, and chocolate mousse dessert. Paired with 2014 Beau-Site from St Estephe an especially good choice. We will be back!

Booked Vin Rouge for a birthday party for my mom on a Sunday morning. This was my first time dining here, and everything was great! Everyone loved the brunch menu. The ambience was great, a well decorated and laid out restaurant. Our server was friendly and timely with the drinks, meals, and bringing out the cake that we brought in. We did have to ask for more water a couple times, but as a fine dining server myself, I understand that the small glasses provided lead to being drank quickly if not having another drink, so I would not use that as a reason to give less than 5 stars. I had the french toast and my mom had an omelette and both were cooked perfectly. The fries were probably some of the best I've had anywhere. Definitely would recommend and go back!
We eat here several times a year. Everything is consistent=service, food temp/quality/taste. I do wish there were a bit more light so I could see what may need trimming on my entree. My daughter's salmon was a bit undercooked but she refused to return it. She was full from appetizers and the salmon would be find reheated. That dish is my "go-to" and I've not faced a cooking concern yet.
I do wish there were more entree choices. I do not care for fish.
I haven't dined at Vin rouge for quite some time and was happy to learn that if anything it has improved with age. It truly has a genuine feel of a French country restaurant. The simple and classic menu items are very authentic but feel appropriate to an American restaurant. And the specials, especially the grouper fish special we tried, where phenomenal.
I recommend the carefully chosen oyster and seafood offerings, absolute classics like steak frite, and the friesee salad with lardons. I didn't get a chance to have the cheese course but the description was very enticing. I really feel like I need to visit this restaurant on a regular basis and enjoy the feeling of being in France.
Vin Rouge has been around for a long time, long enough to add some variety to its menu and rearrange the tables so patrons aren't squished at their own table or rubbing elbows with their neighbors or listening to their neighbors' conversations.
I always love Vin Rouge, and Thursday night we had an extraordinarily kind waitress, Kelly. There was a big event in back so front crowded, but they followed my request for quiet table. Charming in every way.

Vin Rouge never disappoints. From the wonderful ambiance of their Red Room, excellent cuisine, service and wine list, they are consistently a true culinary experience. The trout almandine tickled my foodie taste buds with every bite.

We loved the onion soup and the bread. But everything else was just ok. We asked to get the escargot without the pernot. Not hard to do. But they said no. The tournedos was supposed to have a brandy sauce but there was no hint of brandy. They brought us more sauce but again no flavor of brandy at all. The setting was very nice and it was quiet. My husband has the liver. The menu never mentioned a sauce. He and the other couple would have preferred it without the sauce. We heard the restaurant was great. It was a disappointment to us.
Everything we had was amazing
We celebrated our anniversary at Vin Rouge. The food was outstanding. I had a shrimp and garlic butter appetizer that was outstanding. I accompanied that with a dinner salad - also quite good. My wife had the dijon salmon and loved it. Service was perfect - just the right amount of attention. It was $1 oyster night so the noise level as high at first but by 8:00 PM had quoted down. Love this restaurant.
Been here twice...both times it was so hot in there it was not comfortable to eat. Food was mediocre..waiter ok. Worst Bloody Mary I have ever tasted...sent it back. Too crowded and overpriced.
We’ve brunched several times at Vin Rouge. Never disappointed. Always a delightful experience.
I’ve eaten at vin rouge several times over. Food is pretty good most of the time. But it’s also very loud in there. Tables very close. You can hear other conversations and not your own. That’s my only complaint but it’s a big complaint. It prevents me from going there from now on.
The food is always good. The restaurant is small so it can get crowded - make sure you reserve your table.

The overall experience for our birthday dinner was good. The staff was welcoming and the waiter was outstanding. The food for 3 of was good, but not memorable. However, my wife's meal of moules caused her to get sick later that night ... she unwisely pried open a shell that was only partly opened (another never opened at all), which we suspect was the culprit. Otherwise it was a pleasant evening.
Fantastic evening. Possibly the best server we have ever had. (Not just at this restaurant — anywhere). An undervalued star in Durham’s good — but overhyped — food constellation.

We had a wonderful time at Vin Rouge! The service both at the bar and tableside were fantastic! The complementary escargot were right up there with those I tasted in Paris, and the rest of the dishes followed suit. Can't wait to experience all this again, thank you so much!
Some aspects of the meal were very good - the baked littleneck clams were a delicious highlight. Unfortunately, the NY strip steak was served undercooked and lukewarm, while the tuna in the nicoise had a mysterious grey tone. The food was quite disappointing, despite a very warm and pleasant atmosphere.
Great service, food and signature cocktails.
Lovely staff. Great food. Noisy inside, but no way around that. Worth it.
